Brooklyn and Atlanta are engaged in talks on a possible Joe Johnson trade, sources tell Y! Nets plan would be to pair with Deron Williams.

Haha, that would take them out of the Howard sweepstakes next year.

Would still have ESPN pimpin out Howard to the Nets ALL next season. That would be unbearable.

Oh, and :lmao at Howard.

Howard shared his feelings of being blackmailed by the Magic with the NBA Players Association last week, sources said. He -- either himself or through his representatives -- approached the union wondering if he might have a legal complaint against the club.

The goal of such a complaint would be to eliminate his "opt-in," thereby allowing Howard to become a free agent this summer.

Sources said the union has no plans to pursue any such legal action against the Magic.

Friday was not the first time Howard asked the Magic to trade him. In December, before the lockout-shortened season began, he asked Orlando to deal him to the Nets.

Howard never rescinded his trade offer, even after picking up his option on the day of the trade deadline.

or give them more assets for a sign & trade, (not that Orlando would WANT Johnson's contract). They could absorb his salary outright in exchange for picks or Marshon Brooks perhaps...

Right now they only have $17 million in salary this season and only $4million committed for 2013-2014 season. They could conceivably, re-sign Williams for max money this summer and then sign a bunch of guys to 1 year deals to pair with Johnson and DWill. Then sign Howard outright next summer.

Unlikely, but still possible

Howard would still have to walk away from alot of money, as he obviously won't get the max. This is why he desperately wants to be traded to the Nets now, because he could be in the market he wants AND have the max deal from the team that has his bird rights. But I'm loving how he fucked himself and how it's playing out.

Virtually impossible. Williams is going to get about $19-$20 million in the second year of his deal. Joe Johnson will be pulling $21 million per in 2013-14. That's already $40-$41 million, and doesn't count 9 minimum deals for open roster spots under 11. That's going to be another $2 million to $2.5 million. So now we're at $42-$43.5 million. Howard's max deal is about $20 million. Now you're $4 million above this year's salary cap in the best case (includes dumping your first round pick), so your only hope is a huge season in revenue for the league to bring the cap up to $62 million+.

True, but he could accept a starting salary around $16 million (rather than the roughly $18.5 million max free agent contract) and the deal would work. Even moreso if they get DWill to agree to sign for less than max money, with the understanding that they will use the savings to sign Howard next summer.

If he really wants to play with DWill he (and DWill) might have to follow Lebron and Bosh's example and accept a little less than the max to get his own "Big Three" going.

His max is going to be $20.2 million (105% of his 2012-13 salary). I don't see him taking a $4.2 million cut to his base salary that will cost him $24 million over the length of the contract.

@BRAND0NJENNINGS: Dwight Howard is acting weird now.... Smh

:lol

Multiple league sources believe the Nets are losing hope they can pry Howard out of Orlando, and are working diligently to construct a roster to keep Williams that doesn't necessarily give them the financial flexibility to absorb Howard when he can become a free agent next year. If the Magic do eventually make a deal for Howard – something that they haven't shown an inclination yet to do under new general manager Rob Hennigan – the Nets would be stocked with the kind of expensive veteran contracts that wouldn't appeal to Orlando's blueprint for rebuilding. - Woj

The whole NJ/Dwight/everything fiasco is :lol. You got Dwight, father of 5 by 5 different women, wanting to convert the NBA to Christianity while being a faggot. Then you got NJ, going after Scola, dropping that, then going after an overrated, overpaid player who plays like Bonner in the playoffs. I hope Deron leaves and the Nyets get Howard/Johnson surrounded by Bobcat quality players.

Shitty team, shitty minority owner, shitty logo, shitty star, and not very classy. :lmao

joe johnson being 1/3 of big three u be kidding me right? sounds hilarious like dirk-deron-Delonte Triple D dynasty tbh and that nigga DH would never accept a paycut only to play alongside Johnson who's overrated and done

If all their minimum deals were only for a year, they could renounce them next summer to sign Dwight, right?

So let's say Deron gets $19M next year, Joe J gets $21M, and the cap creeps up slightly to $59M. There's still $19M to sign Dwight, which isn't a huge pay cut. Even if it drops to $18M it's still not unthinkable.

Then they'd have have to fill out the rest of their roster with the room exception and a bunch more minimum deals. (I can't remember if they'd get the BAE/LLE as well, so that might be a possibility.)

Signing Joe Johnson doesn't seem like it makes a lot of sense, but it wouldn't necessarily have to nuke the deal for Dwight.
