Coincidentally I've had this Thursday evening marked on my calender for quite some time; TCM is showing A Face In The Crowd at 12:45 am. It's from 1957, directed by Elia Kazan, and in my opinion is Andy's best performance. It's a pretty frank story about the power of media-made celebrity that is probably more relevant today than ever. If anyone is interested:

RIP Andy.

Andy Griffith, sad you’re gone
Picket fences and green green lawns
Mayberry seemed an ideal place
Thinking of your smiling face

You and Barney made me laugh
And old Aunt Bee in her scented bath
Otis, he was funny too
And good ole Goober in worn out shoes

It’s true that times were simpler then
No Trayvon Martin or Benny Hinn
A town that did so much inspire
And one lone bullet never fired

Andy, Andy, why’d you go
And leave us with no way to know
About the ways to be good to men
Now it’s roosters and not enough hen

Obviously wasn't in Mayberry.

Maybe blacks were scared of Barney's shaky gun.

close your eyes...

You're in Mayberry. You hear a commotion involving 5 men, 1 of which is black. You hear that the police are involved and have a man pinned against a car.

Now open your eyes...

surprised?

Looks to me the black man is not involved in that commotion at all.

I remember the Mayberry mishaps and then the Matlock marathons that my mom used to catch while I was growing up. Definitely did catch a few episodes and will always think fondly of Mr. Griffith. May you rest easy with Don Knotts and forever sleep with a knowledge that you accomplished so much.

Wow, that sucks. My dad is a hardcore Matlock fan - watches it almost every weekday morning.

RIP Mr. Andy
