:lol for the sole purpose of ensuring the Knicks can't use him in a sign and trade for Nash
So assuming this strategy works (which it probably will now given Nash would have to take a paycut to go anywhere other than Toronto), Toronto will have used nearly all of its cap room on Nash's deal way above what another team wanted to/could have paid, and another deal to make sure the one team that could have paid Nash as much in a sign and trade couldn't.
Expect Jerry Colangelo to be heralded for his crafty use of cap room to sign Steve Nash, as if giving out a combined 3 year, $56,000,000 to sign a point guard who's 38 and not sought after by any other team with huge cap room takes some sort of skill.
:lol Colangelo
:lol outdoing himself with grossly overpaying free agents

They're not gonna be a contender anytime anyways. The contract might pay for itself in ticket and jersey sales, and maybe if they sneak into the playoffs as an 8 seed and get a few extra home dates.

Well I can't argue with that, Bryan Colangelo has perfected the art of assembling mediocre teams that can sneak into the playoffs
This is a solid business move, Canadians dont give a shit about basketball anyways. They just want their national hero donning a Raptors uni, they could care less about fielding a competitive team.

:lol DoK's blind Nash hate.
Collangelo knows they won't contend, signing Nash sells out every single night. This is about dollars son

Fields is not a good player. He's a role player off the bench at best, a contract like this should be going to a young 6th man candidate.
DoK isn't wrong, this is a dumb basketball move, but it's a smart business move to lock up Nash. However, will Nash be butthurt they pulled the Knicks off the table for him?

I get the strategy but what if Knicks don't match they now have: 3 SG didn't they just draft one last week? LOL

It'll be a stupid move when Nash falls off a cliff, which he likely will next season. Kareem's about the only guy I can think of who didn't fall off bigtime by age 39; he did at 40, which is how old Nash will be in the second year of the contract. :lol

:lol everyone thinking Nash is completely ageless and will sell games out for 3 years.
He'll be 39 by the time next season ends, and no longer will have the best training staff in the league nursing his back. There's a very solid chance the wheels completely fall off for Nash by the end of year 1 of this deal. Nash isn't an idiot, there's a reason why he wants 3 years of guaranteed money.

Good point on the training staff. I didn't think there was a way to make Colangelo look any more retarded, but that argument is pretty damning.
