@WojYahooNBA: Deron Williams has reached agreement on a 5 year, $100 million extension with Brooklyn, a league source tells Y! Sports.

Mike Prada (http://twitter.com/MikePradaSBN): Full five year max means Deron didn't take a discount to leave room for a potential Dwight trade, it seems 1 minute ago (http://twitter.com/MikePradaSBN/statuses/220294853215526914)

Not surprising... Deron's never been a team player to begin with.

:lol Players saying its not about the money. I mean, their team (if healthy) should be pretty decent (playoffs for sure, top 3-4 seed), but they are screwed if they can't trade from a cap perspective past this year.

Quasi-kudos for Brooklyn making a balsy trade and knowing it's about the money and being able to keep Deron. If they can trade for Dwight, it's major kudos brilliant. If not, still quasi because they are quasi-relevant.

Damn nice deal for Brooklyn. D-Will, Johnson, Wallace, Humphries, Lopez, Brooks, Evans, Kidd (maybe). Not bad. And if they get Howard, they will be even better....:tu

They are going hard after Ersan from reports.

Question: How does him taking max hurt their chances for a Dwight trade? Salaries have to match regardless so it should not prevent a trade for Dwight at all. It might impact their ability to re-sign him, but in the event of a trade, wouldn't his full bird-rights come with him anyways?

DPG21920
07-03-2012, 06:55 PM
Him taking max money really in no way impacted Dwight at all. Either they could trade for him or not. That was the only way Dwight was coming to BKY and if he gets there that way, D-Wills contract doesnt matter (unless ownership is unwilling to pay luxury tax to re-sign Dwight for what he wants which is max)

20 million for Deron williams is a joke.

Ive always considered him one of the most over-rated players in the league.

Between him and Joe Johnson, you have 40 million allocated to B-list players.

nets not getting howard might actually be a pretty good thing if they can re-sign humphries and brook lopez. lopez needs to stop regressing though and start improving instead of tanking. williams/johnson/wallace/humphries/lopez is a pretty damn good lineup but it'll hinge on lopez's performance.

bigger joke than giving Gordon the max?

i think 20 million a year for williams was a decent offer. you can't just compare his contract to every other player out there. you have to also compare his value to players that are currently on the market and the truth is that he is the best free agent available. he's still a top 5 point guard when healthy.

deron williams lead the jazz to the WCF with freakin boozer as his wingman. he can potentially reclaim his spot as the second best pg in the game with better teammates. i remember all the chris paul haters sucking williams' dick a few years back. where are they now? how they easily forget that williams can be almost as unstoppable as chris paul.

Yes.

Dude shot 40% from the field last year.

I repeat: DUDE SHOT 40% from the field last year.

And it aint like he puts up 10+ assists to compensate.

So what the hell is Brooklyn actually paying for?

HarlemHeat37

Boozer peaked during that year, he was arguably better than Williams at the time, tbh..

Deron Williams is a good player, borderline top 10, but he's overrated..his defense is terrible, his work ethic is questionable, he's a coach killer, and he's mentally weak..he's destined to become the next fat PG that wastes his potential IMO..

Starting line-up of Deron Williams, Joe Johnson, Gerald Wallace, Dwight Howard? If they trade Lopez, it leaves a glaring hole in the PF position.. but even then, that is a fantastic line up. It sounds like it would be a joy to watch this team play.

Courtney Lee is garbage. The Rockets should just let everyone walk and rescind their offer to Asik, and then tank like it was 1983 and 1984 again.
