I can't believe my Dominican Republic team lost because Ike Diogu hit three dagger three-pointers. In 3,000 minutes in the NBA, he has made one three-pointer. :rolleyes

Spain was so much better than France without Parker and Batum that the game was quite boring. The 16 points win could have easily been a 25 points win if France wasn't hitting their 3 pointer. Parker can't really play right now after having done nothing for one month. Diaw was invisible. De Colo has alternate the good and the bad.

Yep. It was a damn fun game to watch.

Pau Gasol and Navarro are just damn great players.
It sucks that Navarro didn't like the NBA. It would have been great to see him playing in a better competition than Euroleague/Spanish competition.
Pau Gasol is wasting his career playing with Lakers, a team that uses him so poorly. Maybe the addition of Nash will change that. If it doesn't, a trade would be the best for him.

Regarding Spurs players in that game, it wasn't good.

Parker was obviously tired and he still isn't in good shape.
De Colo had a couple a great assists but he couldn't hit a jump shot. He wasn't aggressive enough with the ball in his hands.
Diaw has an average game but like the rest of French bigs, he suffered a lot on the boards and defensively against Spain even without Marc Gasol.

Patty with a very quiet 2nd quarter. I don't think he scored any points. Spain is definitely paying more attention to him in their pick and roll coverage.
This Australian team might not be the most talented out there but they are very disciplined and have some good size in the front court.

Very similar to the first game Spain just pulls away late in the 4th. Australia just seem to be relying too much on outside shots, they hardly get any easy points around the rim.

Patty finished with 15 points (not 100% sure about that) and showed that he can still shoot the ball and run the pick and roll. Just like the rest of the team he struggled to get in the paint and finish over the Gasol/Ibaka. Defensively he was not much of a factor letting Calderon score quite a bit, although some of the shots he made were pretty well contested.

It's going to be a very interesting battle for the backup point guard position between Mills, Joseph and De Colo.

Little tidbit with Chris Paul giving Patty Mills a little bit of praise :tu

"Patty wasn't in the NBA in '08 and he did an unbelievable job then and he's an even better player now," Paul said of the Aussie asset at the San Antonio Spurs.

"He's a different player with the national team than he is in the NBA. With the national team, he gets to get loose, get going and be the player that he is."

Regarding Spurs player:
- Parker was very good in the first half. In the second half, Brazil was more physical and he missed some shots but at least he hit his FTs.
- De Colo was very quiet in the first half but he was just great in the second half. He win the game by himself in a Ginobili-like fashion. Defensively, he suffered but wasn't that bad against Barbosa.
- Diaw was as always: solid but he passed soem shots he should have taken.
- Splitter barely played in the first half because of foul troubles. He was the best Brazilian player in the clutch where he made some great offensive moves. His Ft shooting looked very good.

Nando with the ginobilish fourth quarter

7 mn to go, 2 assists for Pietrus including the one in the back, an acrobatic shoots, a 3 pointer to give France the advantage and another JS. He finished the last 7 mn with 7 pts, 1 reb, 2 assist and one interception.

Definitely some good stuff. He is going to be key for FNT during the tournament.

In addition of De Colo good summer, Joseph has had a great SL and, from what I've seen, Mills has been fine with Australia. Spurs should more and more consider trading Neal.

I like Woj, but this isn't his best or most balanced work.

Owners have restricted freedom of movement in the NBA with salary-cap and sign-and-trade restrictions.

Really?! So Steve Nash and his $9 million contract didn't just get traded to a team that was already $10 million over the luxury tax line prior to the trade? I understand the S&T restrictions don't taken effect until next year, but its not as if they have been done away with completely and its done to prevent shit like the Lakers acquiring every all-star in the Western conference not on the Spurs or OKC.

Then there is the DH situation. Dwight Howard isn't forcing the Magic to trade him after he mistakenly opted-in to the last year of his deal at the trade deadline? Derek Fisher didn't refuse to report to Houston forcing them to buy him out last season? Sorry but I have to call BS on the restriction of freedom statement.

He has bigger issue on a shoulder early in the season (tendinitis) but this time it's just a sore shoulder after a hit he received in the last friendly game against Australia. The injury in itself doesn't look serious but he didn't practice a couple of days because of it which is problematic when you have conditioning issues.

Good win by FNT. It sucks for Florent Pietrus but it looks like he should be fine with a protective mask. They just need to win one of their last two games to finish 2nd of the group (providing USA beat Argentina). They should be able to win against Tunisia in 2 days and rest players for their last game against Nigeria.

If the logic is respected on the other group, the QF should be:
USA/Australia
France/Brazil
Argentina/Spain or Russia
Lithuania/Spain or Russia

This is assuming Russia beats Brazil today?

I vastly underestimated France.

Yep.

On the USA group, unless something crazy happen like Nigeria beating Argentina or Argentina beating USA, it will be: USA:1st, France:2nd, Argentina:3rd and Lithuania:4th.

On the Spain group, the winner of Australia/GB will be 4th. The first 3 seed will be Spain, Russia and Brazil. The 3 teams are tied for the moment and will start playing each other. I think Brazil is a step lower than Russia and Spain. Between Russia and Spain, I'm not sure who is better. Spain is stronger on the paper but they have injuries issues with Navarro and Marc Gasol and Russia has looked great this summer.

Yeah Splitter commanding that double team.

Brazil better but Splitter back in there before the lead grows too big.

Manu just said they're likely a lock to finish #3 on the group... agreeing with Bruno, basically
