Houston has decided to use the amnesty provision on Luis Scola and will likely file with NBA on Friday, league sources tell Y! Sports.

The Mavericks will be aggressive bidders for Scola on the amnesty wire, league sources said. Dallas is serious about Elton Brand too.

Scola is a liability now. Mavs should have kept Chandler.

His contract is ridiculous (3y/$30M), but IIRC, you don't have to pick up the whole thing, you just have to outbid the other under-the-cap teams using your cap space.

Houston has to pay out the difference between his contract and the highest bid. :lol

I'd say he would be good for a pickup of 3yr 18mil but nothing over and perhaps even less.

^ finley signed with them spurs in 05 after being amnestied from mavs, dude played there for a couple of years and helped them win their 4th championship while still getting paid by them mavs :lol i mean if the team that amnesties a player only pays the difference, then it makes no difference to the player how much he gets paid from his new team imho

After last year, I wouldn't give him more than 3/15, and even that would make me nervous. If I had a team with the cap space, I'd probably want to bid 3/12 and hope to get a bargain on him as well as limit the downside risk.
