What brand and features you recommend. Don't want to spend more that 2k.....also does 120hz vs 240 really matter. 3D worth a shit? Only serious responses please...

240 matters

Fuck 3D unless you want to wear glasses and look at pop up postcards for movies.

Samsung LED

I'd hold out for Apple's new TV, which is supposed to drop in the Fall....

Sony or Samsung LED-LCDs, 1080p, 120hz is fine, 3D is generally a waste

I wouldn't touch Apple.

Samsung LED, 240hz, non 3D (if you can get it).

From what I've read- the 120 vs 240 is a non-issue because this article claimed that the human eye cannot really detect the difference.

The 3D is possibly cool but I didn't want to wear the 3D shades...I do think LED is worth it and 3D might be if the price difference is an issue.

Samsung is reportedly at or near the top...I have the 55'' LED and it rocks...but I am debating on 3D and still haven't upgraded.

I have both the 120 and the 240 and I can detect the difference, perhaps not in still photos but it reduces motion induced artifacts, and most of us watch sports or action on these things and don't use them as photo albums, so yes, the refresh rate is important. How important is up to you.

I just bought a new Samsung 32 incher for the bedroom.

We were in Target walking towards the TV's, a good distance away. There were two pictures that totally stood out among all the sets against the walls. Yep, both were Samsung. Only Samsungs there.

If it was Apple from 15 years ago, I'd agree, but today's Apple STAYS making quality products... a big-ass TV with Retina Display would be FIRE, tbh....

If you have 25K to spend on TV, go for it.

The 3D feature is sort of worthless as of right now.

Not much you can do with it yet. However if you are a gamer, it will be worth getting one with 3D as long as it fits your budget.

Alot of new games are 3D compatible.

Batman Arkham City and Uncharted 3 are just a few. An amazing experience.

LED is nice on the power bill. You can get an apple tv for $99 if you need it.

I've had a 65 inch for a while. I am not kidding, I want a 90 inch or bigger. I saw one that looked bad ass on QVC lol.

I'm gonna do some shopping for a while and just might get one this Christmas.

Such TV would not fit through a normal door. You would have to do some house renovations. lol

Anything bigger than 50 inches for your own personal use is just going overboard.

Unless I'm like 20 feet away from the set, I start noticing the pixelation too much on TVs 60" or larger.

I just bought (as in 3 days ago) a Samsung 55 inch LED 3d dumb TV that came bundled with a smart 3d bluray player (bundle model number un55eh6070) for only 1399 over at best buy with 36 month no interest financing. It is beautiful. Really the only downside is that it only has 2 hdmi ports which, for me, is no big deal as my everything passes through my stereo anyway and so I only need one HDMI port on the TV. I had purchased a super-thin 50 inch samsung led smart 3d TV (model un50es6500), but it was a bit too small. The hole in my entertainment center housed a 50 inch DLP so replacing it with a TV that had a .33 inch bezel did not work so I had to go bigger. The screens are comparable (though the panels are different) in clarity and contrast. The biggest difference is the thickness (the es is about 1.25 inches thick, while the eh is about 3 inches thick at their thickest point). I know you are looking for a 60, but thought I would throw this out there. Let me know if you have any questions about what I bought.

He said he doesn't want to pay 2k, which means he certainly doesn't want to pay 3k for the same product.

I'd probably go bigger myself but being that I'm in NY and live at an apartment its not possible for me to have it.

Still think 90 is abit crazy though. :lol

Except when you want to use a game console on it without a split screen for two players. Shutter glasses with gaming, rather than alternating left/right eye images, alternate player 1 and player 2 images. Requires a 3D TV for that.

Yes. The eye cannot detect the difference between the 120 and 240 itself, but the processing power is better in 240 hz TV's and reduces the funny unwanted motions.

I hear you. I have the Samsung 55 LED and it is cool but , like you, I am looking at those 70 & 80 LED'S just for a little overkill...mine is mounted on the wall and looks like a picture frame and doesn't cut into your living space.

my living area is huge and even the 80 will be far enough away that it will be great for get-togethers and especially pay-per-view events...

Blu ray movies of course are awesome...

Sure it would. The 65" is the diagonal measurement. The screen rectangle would be 56-5/8" x 31-7/8" TV size probably about 60 x 36 (5 ft x 3 ft.) Most doors are about 7' tall. Indoor doors are normally 32" wide I think, and the front door is normally 36". The 90" would be a display size of 78-7/16" x 44-1/8". Still be able to maneuver it in most doors. No thanks on the giant pixel size though.

I disagree with large screen TV's for a different reason. The 60" in the OP would have a color pixel set size of about 1/32" if 1080P, and larger if 720P.

FWIW I didn't set out to get 3d. I don't care about it, and I have a scar on the cornea of my left eye directly over my pupil so 3d in the theaters has never worked very well for me. However, it seems that samsung does 3d well. I have checked out their 3d sample and it is cool, plus if you push the 3d button on the remote during TV it has a 2d to 3d mode that works surprisingly well (the intro to the big bang theory looks exceptionally cool). The glasses are very comfortable and unintrusive even if you wear glasses. All in all, it is not a feature that I will use very often (maybe not at all after the initial "wow" factor dies down), but it comes with almost all TVs now so it is nice to have.

Is Sharp Aquos a good brand? I think that's the only 90' TV on the market right now. Oh and btw it will set you back $11000.

Might as well take a look at this TV too and see if it's worth buying. :lol

Some great spot on answers in this thread…for a 60 inch you need a big room to sit far enough away to enjoy it…the higher refresh is noticeable in big screens…The 3D issue is about the engine not just 3D… vibrant images and fluid motion flow…I went with the Sony 3D(Not because I feel the picture is better) I just find the menu system extremely easy to master…..
