Joe McCarthy is not a good examply to try to make someone look bad with. He was given a bum rap. He wasn't the one out there looking for communists in the general public. He was only looking to get rid on the communist spys in our government, and he did uncover several.

Project Venona proves he was right, but it wasn't unclassified until sometime in the 90's.

The bigger question is how this insane "Christian" bitch with her bogus law degree from a "Christian" scam college keeps getting re-elected, with her "gay whisperer" hubby. Perks and pork for her district?

Bachmann Stands By Widely Condemned Islamophobic Attack, Finds Ally In Glenn Beck

Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) is doubling down on her Islamaphobic attacks against a top aide to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, even as a growing number of Republicans are repudiating Bachmann’s charges as “nothing less than an unwarranted and unfounded attack on an honorable citizen.”

During an appearance on Glenn Beck’s radio show on Thursday, Bachmann reiterated her suspicions that Clinton’s deputy chief of staff, Huma Abedin, has ties to the Muslim Brotherhood, noting, “her late father who’s now deceased was a part of the Muslim Brotherhood. Her brother was a part of the Muslim Brotherhood, and her mother was a part of what’s called the Muslim Sisterhood.” Earlier this week, Bachmann accused Abedin of working on behalf of the Muslim Brotherhood in a letter with four colleagues to the State Department’s Inspector General demanding an investigation.

Bachmann Supporters Stay Strong

Michele Bachmann may have few allies in Washington right now, other than her fellow Republican representatives who attached their names to her controversial letter claiming the infiltration of the U.S. government by the Muslim Brotherhood, but she’s still a big hit back home. While members of Congress from both sides of the aisle have shunned the representative from Minnesota for accusing two of the U.S. government’s prominent Muslims of having ties to the Islamist group, supporters near the Twin Cities think Bachmann’s contrasting views will keep her in office. One supporter—who said he believes President Obama goes to Martha’s Vineyard to observe Ramadan—told Politico that Bachmann is the “only one telling the truth about this thing.” Another supporter said she doesn’t “think [Bachmann] would make something up.” Apparently Bachmann’s belief in a Muslim Brotherhood mission within the U.S. government dates back several years. Bachmann’s former chief of staff and a former chairman of the Minnesota Republican Party insisted that the representative is “privy to information that you and I don’t have.”

Top Clinton Aide Threatened After Bachmann Allegations

The New York Post reports Sunday that Huma Abedin, a top aide to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, was placed under security by authorities after an “unspecified threat.” The source of the threat is not clear — he was “described as a Muslim man” — but the Post linked the incident to widely-repudiated allegations made by Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) tying Abedin to the Muslim Brotherhood and suggesting her nefarious influence on the U.S. government. New York police and the State Department reportedly questioned the man, who was not charged, according to the Post.

Tea Party Congressman Calls McCain ‘Numb Nuts’ For Criticizing Bachmann’s Anti-Muslim Witch Hunt

GOHMERT: Well, it’s obvious that John McCain didn’t even read the letter because of what he said in accusing Michele and us of making these horrible accusations. There were five letters and there were many things that are stated that are facts in each letter. And I wish some of these numb nuts would go out and read the letter before they make these horrible allegations about the horrible accusations we’re making. But we also know that John McCain himself had said back in the early stages of stuff going on in Egypt that he was, in his words, “unalterably opposed to helping the Muslim Brotherhood.” Well, obviously the unalterable person has been altered, so he is okay with it now.

Yes.

Really.

There were three government committees looking into communism at the time. It was the House Committee (House of representatives) that went after innocent citizens. McCarthy was in the senate, and was only looking for communist plants and spies within the government.

McCarthy was publicly vocal, so all the rest of the crap was laid at his feet.

Maybe you should do some research on Project Venona, and cross reference it to McCarthy's claims. Save yourself the embarrassment of looking ignorant.

Maybe you should do some research on Project Venona, and cross reference it to McCarthy's claims. Save yourself the embarrassment of looking ignorant.Among the most knowledgeable experts on the Venona project is Harvey Klehr, a professor of politics and history at Emory University. Prof. Klehr traveled in 1992 to the former Soviet Union, where he got access to Soviet spy archives. He also studied the Venona cables after the U.S. government declassified them in the 1990s. With John Earl Haynes, Prof. Klehr co-authored Venona: Decoding Soviet Espionage in America, published in 1999 by Yale University.

In short, when it comes to Soviet espionage in America, the Venona project and Joseph McCarthy, Prof. Klehr has the credentials to show that he knows what he’s talking about. In fact, he is very critical of those who still deny the extent of that espionage or downplay its significance.

But he isn’t buying efforts to rehabilitate McCarthy’s image. Prof. Klehr told an audience at a 2005 conference that McCarthy may have been right about “some of the larger issues” — such as, that there actually were communist spies in America — but that he was recklessly wrong on much else, especially the details:

[V]irtually none of the people that McCarthy claimed or alleged were Soviet agents turn up in Venona. He did identify a few small fry who we now know were spies but only a few. And there is little evidence that those he fingered were among the unidentified spies of Venona. Many of his claims were wildly inaccurate; his charges filled with errors of fact, misjudgments of organizations and innuendoes disguised as evidence. He failed to recognize or understand the differences among genuine liberals, fellow-traveling liberals, Communist dupes, Communists and spies — distinctions that were important to make. The new information from Russian and American archives does not vindicate McCarthy. He remains a demagogue, whose wild charges actually made the fight against Communist subversion more difficult. Like Gresham’s Law, McCarthy’s allegations marginalized the accurate claims. Because his facts were so often wrong, real spies were able to hide behind the cover of being one of his victims and even persuade well-meaning but naïve people that the whole anti-communist cause was based on inaccuracies and hysteria.

Are you suggesting that even though Project Venona found some of the same spies that McCarthy did, that all those named by McCarthy and not seen in Venona were wrong?

That's shear stupidity!

Besides, it wasn't McCarthy driving the Red Scare. It was others.

Again...

He was vocal in the public, only went after government employees. One of the people affected was a friend of Murrow's, though not by McCarthy's doing. Murrow actually sought to destroy McCarthy, and used some inaccurate information to do so.

Ever watch Good Night and Good Luck (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0433383/)? Watch it with an unbiased eye, and you see that Murrow was after McCarthy with no good cause. Clooney did an excellent job with that film.
