Rangers Rumors: Zack Greinke, Cole Hamels, Cliff Lee
by Blaine Blontz on Jul 19, 2012 12:00 PM EDT in MLB Rumors
While the Texas Rangers have focused their search for a "high-end pitcher" on Milwaukee Brewers right-hander Zack Greinke and Philadelphia Phillies lefty Cole Hamels, the club would consider Hamels’ teammate in Philly Cliff Lee as a long-shot option, reports Danny Knobler of CBSSports.com:
The Rangers, in search of a high-end pitcher to top their rotation, have focused their attention almost entirely on Cole Hamels and Zack Greinke
What if they don't get either one?
One long-shot option the Rangers would consider, according to sources: A reunion with Cliff Lee.
The Rangers, losers of the last two World Series, believe their best chance of "getting back and winning it is to add a true ace atop their rotation," according to Knobler. While he admits a Phillies trade of Lee to the Rangers is a long-shot, Knobler considers it "fascinating."
Texas acquired Lee in the summer of 2010, a move that helped them get to their first World Series, and then tried hard to sign him long-term in the off-season. The 33-year-old is signed through the 2015 season, and his contract includes a whopping $27.5 million vesting option for 2016 with a $12.5 million buyout.

Although any rock solid ace puts us in the drivers seat in the AL
Trying to bail on the team when he sees they have no future. :lol
Rangers should pass.

We'll see about that. Honestly though I'd rather not go after Hamels...we'd probably have to trade the meat of our farm system, the best part of our lineup is getting old, and his contract ends after this year. If we are wanting to resign Hamilton, we aren't going to be able to resign Hamels too...I'd say Zach or Cliff...

I have a feeling the fans and management would disagree with passing but just my gut feeling

:lol No one vital is going anywhere. The Phillies are getting healthy, and will make a strong run to be the hottest and most dangerous team going into the playoffs. Hamels is about to be locked up to a huge extension.

No doubt. lol
This isn't the NBA where you can make a run to sneak into the playoffs.
Phillies are more than done. They wont even get the wild card even if they tried. :lol

:lol Oh Oh! The haters are starting to worry. These dramatic wins by the phillies are the start of a furious 2nd half rally. This team will be in the playoffs, and then they will win it all. I swear to God on my life that this shit is happening, and R:lolan H:lolward isn't going to stop it this time around.

After seeing the phillies in the first half of the season without him, you still mock Ryan Howard?

:lol For your team to have haters, you actually have to have people talking about them. The only reason they were even mentioned is because you brought them up. They're shit, dude...shit.

I'm not so sure Lee has "it" anymore. He gave up 6 runs tonight off of 4 homeruns and gave up a season high 12 hits in 7 1/3 innings. While Zack Greinke only gave up 1 run and 3 hits in 7 innings before his bullpen went out and choked the game....

They are currently on a roll and just locked up Cole Hamels. Nothing but great things ahead for the Phillies. :toast

Ryan Howard is a great regular season player. He is useless in the postseason. My preference is for him to be healthy during the regular season and then suffer a season ending injury right before the playoffs.

If TtoZ goes 3 for 3 on predicting runs from his teams, he's a bonafied god, but I don't see Philly making a run at all. They're a mess.

I admire the optimism, B, but it's still probably too late, tbh....

And they are still stuck 9.5 games back.
They can will all they want. Doesn't matter if the other teams are winning as well. Catch 22. :lol:lol

Fox Sports was reporting that Daniels was more interested in Lee than Hamels before Hamels even got the deal in Philly...
