What surprised me about Argentina basketball is how they have no youth at all to help the team that won gold in 2004. They don't have a single decent player below 30. On would have think that the amazing success in 2004 would have push kids to play some basketball. Guess it didn't happened and they still only care about soccer.

Spain's secret is that they stole the athletic genome(fast twitch muscle fibers) from west African people back in Moorish times, and incorporated them into their population, then killed them. Spain in known as having the most african ancestry from all Euro nations. It's no wonder they have more athletic freaks that are white compared to other white Euro nations.

Sorry to tell you, but you don't know shit. Argentinians didn't technically kill the black population of their country. Most of the black people in Argentina (who were less than 1% of the population) were sent to the war against Paraguay in the 19th century. The few ones that survived went to Brazil or Uruguay.

Good point. Hitler didn't technically kill anyone either.

That's not the point. Black Argentinians were sent to war, like every other male adult in Argentina at that time. Hitler did something completely different

There's a difference between getting sent to war and being sent to the front lines to be slaughtered.

ElNono
07-20-2012, 09:13 PM
Causes of reduction

Among the reasons expressed are:

- Heavy casualties caused by the constant civil wars and foreign wars: Blacks formed a disproportionate part of the Argentine army in the long and bloody War of Paraguay (1865–1870), in which the loss of lives on both sides were high. The official historiography maintains that this resulted in the disappearance of the black population, while the genocide claims contend that the disproportionate recruitment was intentional.[7]

- Epidemics, especially of yellow fever in 1871: the traditional history holds that the epidemics had greater impact in areas where the poorest people lived, whereas the vision that sustains the existence of a genocide underlines the repressive mechanisms that enabled upper-class groups to leave the affected areas at the same time, forcing African Argentines to stay locked up and thus aggravate health conditions.

- Emigration, particularly to Uruguay and Brazil, where black populations had historically been larger and had a more favorable political climate;

- The massive immigration from Europe between 1880 and 1950,[8] boosted by the Constitution of 1853, that quickly multiplied the country's population. Like Australia in the 1950s to 1980s, European immigrants were encouraged while non-Europeans were virtually excluded.

- There are a growing number of historians in academia which look to the possible act of racial genocide on the part of the Argentine government.[9] Former Argentine President Domingo Sarmiento advocated forced population reductions of the black population in Argentina. While direct evidence of any such action is very limited, research into the unseemingly swift population reduction for blacks over a very short amount of time, lack of actualized census evidence of intermarriage between blacks and whites in Argentina, and investigations finding evidence of later commissions of genocide toward native populations, as well as executions by the Argentine government toward the nations small Native American population gives slight credence to the possibility of the subject.[10][11]

TBH, when Brazil and Russia play Spain in pool play (the same group), I can see one of them knocking Spain off. Russia is a big team that can shoot lights out. I love how Brazil plays and if they can keep a close contest vs the United States, I think they can do the same against Spain. I have a feeling Spain will lose once in pool play, and if so it'll be to either one of the teams I've mentioned. :lol 5 second quarter points

:lol Maybe...

Big difference between our perimeter and Spain's perimeter though. Spain doesn't have the athletes to pressure and wear Brazil down for a full 40. I think Brazil can run an effective offensive gameplan (pick and roll & playing inside and out) throughout the course of the game. One thing I can't see happening is Alex Garcia consistently knuckle-balling three pointers from the corner.

I wouldn't be so confident had Brazil fielded a weakness inside, but they're big and physical (Splitter, notwithstanding :lol) enough to bother the Gasols imo.

Venti Quattro
07-21-2012, 11:11 AM
Spain doesn't need to do that against any team not named United States though. They can wear the rest of the field with their skill and rely on Ibaka for their last line of defense.

One issue with Spain though is if they get pick and rolled to death. The Gasols and Ibaka are not the fastest in rotating to those.

I think it's closer than what people think, despite this game. Argentina did beat Spain in the last Worlds, and that was without Manu IIRC.

1st tier: Team USA
2nd tier: Spain, France, Argentina, Brazil, a dark horse team (ie: Russia)
3rd tier: everyone else

Given there's only 3 medals, and games are played every other day, it should be fun to watch.

Spain is probably the top on the 2nd tier, but this Team USA is staaaaaaaacked, IMO. Lebron is playing out of his mind, and Durant is also something else. They are carrying some old baggage like Kobe, but I don't think he'll be enough to kill their chances completely(*)...

(*) Provided he doesn't take 30+ shots in a game...

I agree with your categorizing of the teams in terms of tier. Had Rubio been playing, I'd probably move Spain up a bit...but that ain't the case

I think teams in these games rank as follow:

1st tier: Team USA
2nd tier: Spain, France, Argentina, Brazil, a dark horse team (ie: Russia)
3rd tier: everyone else

Spain is certainly not on the same tier than France, Argentina and Brazil tbh

it is

1. USA

2. Spain

3. the rest

Don't know about that... I think they have the potential to be on a tier of their own, but their last Worlds wasn't anything to write home about... tbh, I don't recall if Pau played that one...

pau didn't play back in the 2010 WC, if that's what you're wondering.

Spain is much better than any other team, not named USA.
And could win the gold, maybe.
Tbh, Spain has become a sports superpower.

Spain has some serious advantage downlow against the US (specially if coach-K keeps playing that retarded Paul, Kobe, Durant, Melo, Lebron line-up).

If them shots don't go in, watchout.

If coach K doesn't react accordingly matchup wise, it could very well be the United States' first loss since losing back in 2006.

Spain is definitely in position to upset USA. They're not as athletic, sure, but their presence in the low post is an undeniable advantage.

They have to duplicate their 2008 Gold medal game performance from the perimeter to have a chance, which they surely can.

Spain is one of the few teams in contention that can control the tempo of the game. Brazil is the other team that was able to do that vs the United States. Argentina surprisingly was able to do that with Prigioni's composure and ability to setup the Argentinian offensive sets.

I have to add: if teams are able to control the tempo of the game and make timely shots... they have a chance at the end. It really depends on how long teams can control the tempo, we all know too well to expect a Team USA surge in a number of stretches, it's all about controlling the game and doing the most possible offensively outside of those US runs.

Him and Melo.

Melo is gonna get destroyed trying to guard either one of the Gasols.
