Cole vs. Joseph should be interesting. Cole might have been Spurs primary target in last year draft but Heat did a Batum to Spurs.

Yeah, Cole is another great test for Joseph.

No Zeller starting = Nice

No Jacque Vaughn coaching = Did he get the Orlando job?

The Orlando Magic continue their search for a new head coach. Sources close to the process continue to say that no one is being labeled a "frontrunner" however those close to the process say that if there were a lead candidate it would be former Magic guard and current Spurs assistant Jacque Vaughn.

JMcDonald_SAEN Attention all Orlando folks: Jacque Vaughn is not coaching Spurs' summer leaguers today in Las Vegas. Make of it what you will.

I don't remember a summer league coach not coaching all the games. He very well could have gotten that job.

Oh and Wangmeme is making me miss Zeller.

timvp

Wow, Ajinca is really bad at defending pick-and-rolls.

Good to see Cedric Jackson get some run and produce right away.

Denmon doing a good job of being more aggressive.

James Anderson has been terrible.

Joseph pretty damn good.

RC Buford interview again :hungry:

That had to be the longest Buford interview in his life :lol

Jackson should have played sooner. He's been pretty darn good -- relatively speaking of course.

Joseph has been good. How many offensive fouls has he taken? Like five?

Dawson, Green and Wilkerson all have really good midrange jumpers. I'm not sure which one has the best. Green has great form.

I thought Ajinca had a good stretch. He started off horribly but he got into a little bit of a groove. But RC said exactly what I was thinking ... instead of throwing Diaw-esque passes, use your ungodly length to grab at gotdamn rebound. :lol

CoJo looks more and more like an NBA player.

At first I didn't know what Pop and RC saw in the guy, but I think they wanted a point guard - not to mention taking on a prospect.

Ajinca's effort level is about 2353012398 times better than it was to start summer league. He's pretty effective when he's going all out. Buuuuuuuuut he still doesn't look like an NBA player, tbh.

ace3g
07-20-2012, 08:26 PM
Yeah Wilkerson just passes that eye test for an NBA player; everything from how he moves on the court, defense, knack to get to loose balls/rebounds, etc.

Buddy Holly

How tall is he? Not how tall is he listed, but how tall is he really? A legit PF size or undersized.

That's my question with Wilkerson. He's listed at 6-foot-8, which is short to begin with, but sometimes he looks more like 6-foot-7.5.

ace3g
07-20-2012, 08:33 PM
If Spurs look to improve "internally" than Wilkerson would be a good option. He is in that mold of 2 players I've mentioned before: Dominic McGuire and James Singleton.

Joseph has drawn that same offensive foul a half dozen times tonight.

Cedric Jackson showing he should have played in the earlier games.

Looks like no one in summer league is making a huge impression...I'm particularly sorry about Anderson, that I expected to show a lot more than what his stats show.

No one of the bigs is looking a decent nba prospect...Richards and Ajinca both have the body but...that's not enough.

Coming to Co Jo ...no play maker supposed to play important minutes in important nba games can afford 10 turnovers in a summer league game level...

Till now, a sl a little disappointing (we already knew that Kawhi was a wonderful nba player...).

Dawson looks pretty darn good. He has adequate size and skills and might have a shot with the Spurs.

The rest (including CJ and Anderson) look like Euroleague lifers.

Dawson's only problem is that at his age he has no upside.

I honestly look at Cory Joseph as an Avery Bradley except even less NBA ready coming into the league. He's made strides since last year and I can expect more of the same thing throughout this upcoming season. He's a project point guard, if you can see improvements each year you can assume he's getting better and he's working out. If you get the same player each year he's pretty much a goner.

Interesting interview by Ajinca. (First of all, he tried to so Americanize his French accent that it's difficult to understand him, tbh :lol)

-He did some subtle complaining about minutes. A little bit whiny but also somewhat understandable.

-He said he picked the Spurs summer league team because they told him they'd allow him to play on the inside. He's aware that he played too far out on the perimeter previously and wants to work on playing closer to the hoop.

-He also said he picked the Spurs because they might have a spot on the team for him. That might mean the Spurs could be on the lookout for another big.

So who is coaching??

According to PTR, Austin Toros assistant coach Taylor Jenkins was coaching.

http://www.poundingtherock.com/2012/7/20/3173464/Vaughn-talks-with-Martins-replaced-as-Spurs-coach

Also, a sorta-confirmation on JV and Orlando:

"Though there's nothing official to report, word out of San Antonio camp is Vaughn was in discussions with Orlando Magic CEO Alex Martins on Friday and is perhaps the front-runner for the team's head coaching job."

The scary thing about Joseph and especially Leonard is they haven't hit their athletic primes yet.

Leonard is an animal waiting to be unleashed already. Hopefully Corey Joseph is really maturing to end up playing real minutes next season.

A bit too early to write off CJ, he has shown great improvement in summer league play. Jamal Andersen is the probably the greatest spurs dissapointment (due to injuries) but hindsight is always 20/20. A full year for CJ playing for the TOROS will be perfect for him. With the current Point Guard depth, there is no need to waste him at the end of the bench. Patty Mills will be ahead of him. The NBA should give a team 2 roster exemptions for sending guys to the Dleague. That should never count against the 15 man roster.

There was a story early on in the Orlando coaching search that it would be a three-stage process. The first round conducted by the GM, the second round with the CEO and the final round with the owner. JV has made it to round 2.
