Fun game to watch. Congrats to both teams. Manu was awesome but he hasn't received enough help from his teammates. At the end of the game, they get caught by their lack of youth and depth.

Great game. Parker lifting France to the win at the end was impressive. Ginobili was damn good in the loss ... but obviously got tired down the stretch.

I'm hoping they play again. That was a really well played game.

Good stuff :tu

Delfino is a useless cocksucker unless his jumper is falling. He is the Argentine Carmelo. Can help the offense a lot if he's hitting his jumpers, grabs some defensive rebounds.

Oh and Delfino is garbage unless his threes are dropping. Nocioni can't move anymore. And Argentina doesn't have a bench. Ginobili will have to be Michael Jordan for this Argentina team to medal.

That said, I think Ginobili might be able to pull it off as long as his teammates at least hit open jumpers . . .

ARG going 4/23 (17%) from 3 is what lost them the game... for a team that's not athletic and small, you can't survive without hitting from outside... France played so-so, but Tony really showed up in the 4th to close it down

Yes, we have a lot of NBA role players.

A little disappointed by this Argentinian team except Manu. If France still want to plays with Parker's friends they won't win a lot. I'd like less TP, less Diaw, less Turiaf... Yeah, these NBA players are very bad. Let Seraphin, Gelabale, Traoré, Batum and De Colo play.

My conclusions from this game

Argentina only goes as far as ginobelly takes them
no depth and undersized is not a good combination

france is good when they hit the outside shot but that wont happen
Parker is bothered by the googles
his free throws look pure but the jumpshot is garbage
De Colo is Gary Neal that can handle the ball
part of ginobili looking so good was de colo getting caught in picks and ginobili blowing by

I'm not sure what the history of the world has to do with Tony being more of a winner today. And I'm also not sure why you refer to me stating facts as "hate." Only one of those two players won today. Seems to me like the one who won is just better at winning.

If by "that" you mean carrying his team to a championship and earning a Finals MVP trophy, then you'll be happy to know he's already done "that". Putting a team on his back is nothing new. He was blessed with strong bones and good genetics that have allowed him to stay so consistently healthy. Some other players haven't been so fortunate.

lol I was wrong. But this one game sampling was bad tbh. Scola was horrible in the first half, played better in the 2nd. Delfino was 100% nonexistent. Delfino is capable of having a big impact, he has played some good games in international basketball before, but he sucked. Argentina played pretty poorly.

The France team is definitely more well rounded, Del Colo, Batum, Gelabale, Seraphin all helped out for this win. Manu didn't have much help at all. There is just a huge drop off in Argentina's bench, something I didn't factor as much.

I can't believe the US only beat this shitty, shitty team by 6 points :lol.

Yeah, he had a chance to really prove something tonight. Especially considering how out of shape Tony is due to his eye injury. Tony easily proved he has the most toughness, heart and competitiveness of any player on the floor today. He didn't need two good eyes, or his usual, exceptional conditioning.

The x-factor for France is Seraphin. That kid is scary athletic. If he can push Turiaf for minutes and the rest of the French team plays up to their potential, they'll be a tough out.

As for Argentina, I don't understand how Oberto isn't playing. I'm guessing the heart issue ... but, man, roll him out there in a wheel chair and he's their best center by far. You just don't give yourself a chance when your bigs are Scola, Nocioni and some horrendous scrubs.

I refuse to enter into a debate with someone who is obviously emotional after seeing his favorite player lead his homeland country to a heart-wrenching loss against a clear underdog. Tony already said everything there is to say by putting the team on his back and playing big when it mattered most.

I'd like to wish Argentina the best of luck, and I hope Manu makes every shot he takes for the rest of the tournament. I know Tony feels the same way.

Spurs should definitely inquire about Gelable or Seraphin, the best French players today by a wide margin. De Colo and Parker being so-so for most of the game isn't much of a concern, seeing the best player on the court today was Manu Ginobili, who seemingly has plenty in the tank, despite the loss.

Wow, this is surprising...I thought you might be too emotionally invested to debate, like some other poster, but I'm glad you know it's just a game.

Manu had a fine season considering the injury setback, and was the one dropping 25+ pts games against the Thunder... now being the best player on the court today shouldn't be surprising, that's what Manu does.

Exactly, towards the end of the season Nene was left on the bench, it's crazy to think Seraphin is not going to get playing time even with Okafor there.

Istead, I liked a lot Gelabale...showed a decent jump shot and is good at defense, with his long arms. Also a good athlete. I don't know if someone in nba still have his rights...but considering his connection with the other french players he could be a more than decent addiction to our team.

BTW, for people wondering how fat Diaw is, he is listed at 265lbs on the Olympic website. There is a good chance it's his true weight measured by FNT staff in mid June. Pop should really try to convince him of losing 20-25lbs.

Diaw seems heavier then he was 3-4 months ago. Seems like he'd play best around 245.

Séraphin averaged 14/7 with Wizards as a starter (21 games). I doubt they will let him go. It isn't a surprise to see him doing well. He has had a great end of the season with Washington.

Same. Seraphin wouldn't be a fit anyway. He may have been drafted as primarily a PF, but it's clear that he's a C. That being said, it would seem something's got to give with one of their bigs. Nene, Okafor, Vesely and Seraphin, for various reasons, more than likely aren't going anywhere. So that leaves Booker as the likely odd man out and he's overqualified to be a fifth big.

He's not a great fit for what the Spurs need (he's basically an in shape version of Blair, with a jump shot), but he is a solid player. The Wizards are rumored interested in Meeks, so there's no reason to think they wouldn't be interested in Neal, who's a better version of Meeks.

Which is surprising that he can get bigger when he's still playing. I am glad the Spurs re-signed him, but the weight is an issue and luckily the Spurs got him cheap and on a short term contract. Hopefully weight is not an issue all season.

I was one of the few saying I'd prefer Turiaf over Diaw because I thought Diaw was done and too fat. I was obviously wrong (:lol me) but I'm still concerned, no contract year and fat in the Olympics even tough Boris consider playin' for France during the Olympics is a dream... that's worrisome tbh

It's kind of a contract year - Boris didn't get a big contract or long term. He can opt out if he plays well to try and cash in so it stands to reason he would come in and give it his best.

situation is still more comfortable than being in contract year tbh time will tell. On the bright side I think the fact he is playin' with his buddy will help to maintain his motivation but once again seeing him fat during the Olympics is :depressed

Tony knows Manu can't play more than 25 minutes a game. Tony just setting the game plan he's supposed to set. Tony just beating the inferior teammate he's supposed to beat.

Lord that amazing! :lmao Bring'em on.

Just for you, I will. More magic from the British commentary team heard on the Australian Foxtel Broadcast.

Not exact quotes but very very close IIRC

Argentine player gets fouled on the shot by Turiaf, goes to the line for the three point play.
"Uh, well here... Well Turiaf, um, blocked the shot, so he's going to go the line for free throws too"

Scola tries to draw a charge, gets called for the defensive foul, and is upset.
"Ah, you see, Scola in that situation has to get RIGHT out of the way, or he's going to get the foul every time."

Ginobili tries to draw a charge on the edge of the restricted area, gets called for the defensive foul, upset.
"You know, I think Ginobili was actually inside the ... circly thingy."

4 times - once in each quarter something to this effect would happen
"In that situation, I don't think a 'chest-type pass' is appropriate, he definetly had the room for a 'bounce-type pass'.
OR
"Ginobili should know to throw a 'chest-type pass' in a situation like that is an instant steal for the other team, it should have been a 'bounce-type pass"

Philosophy on fouling
"Really, there shouldn't be any fouls at all in the first half. It just doesn't make sense to see them"

Diaw
Everytime France had a foul called against them they said it was Diaw, who apparantly is the same player as Turiaf, Bokolo and De Colo.

Delfino
In Argentina, the players were Ginobili, Scola, Prigioni and everybody else was just referred to as Delfino. Fair enough getting similar looking people mixed up once or twice - but for the whole match? And Nocioni looks NOTHING like Delfino.

Diaw's technical foul
That didn't happen, late in the game. Gave him hate for thirty seconds about how dumb it was to get a technical foul at such a late stage in such a close game before sheepishly realising it was just a time out.

Diaw v Parker 3 pointers
Made a big deal after Diaw took a 3 that the 3 was never a good shot for him, who IMO is decent at 3's. Parker took 5 three pointers, all missed and they didn't say anything even though its common knowledge he's the only point guard in the world who doesn't have a 3 point range.

Ginobili's flop
Ginobili went for one of his patented flops, much to the dismay of the commentators.
"What was that!? That wasn't real!! That was a pratt fall! That was faking! Oh, oh, oh, this is NOT a part of basketball that I like!"

Batum's rebounds
They kept making a massssive deal of Batum's "BIG REBOUNDS!!" in which an uncontested rebound is a BIG REBOUND because Batum jumps in the air to get it. Really didn't make sense. They said it on 4-5 different occasions.

Basketball terms
They kept trying to use basketball terms and their sentences would sort of just trail off in unfinishedness
"Oh and Parker just ... uh drove .............."

Spurs
At one point when Ginobili was bringing the ball up the court
"And here come the Spurs"
Which was kind of surprising given the San Diego Suns shit they'd said a few minutes earlier.

In and out!!!
A long shot clanged off the rim, which they decided had actually gone in and out.

USA men's team
They flashed in a shot of Lebron at one point who was watching the game
"And that's uh... one of the member's of the USA men's team..?"
Like shit, they can't even recognise Lebron James - the most well known and marketable basketball player of today.. :/
Then they had a little running joke about how his glasses are for reading small writing. (?)

Diving
They kept scoring people falling on the ground in diving terms.
"Double twist with a kick .. Degree of difficulty: 4 haw haw haw"

Adjusting to refs
"When will one of the leaders for one of the teams step up and say 'Hey guys, the refs are calling lots of fouls, let's ADJUST the way we're playing!'?? They're going to have to ADJUST! Basketball is about ADJUST!" etc etc etc a few times a quarter.

etc etc etc - i'm sure there's more. I was literally losing my shit at how bad the commentary was.. I'd rather listen to it in Spanish / French (don't speak them at all) or on mute -- but how many times in your life will you get the chance to hear such ill-informed poor basketball commentary?

I'm watching ARG v TUN in a couple of days,be interesting to see if I get to witness these two dropkicks again.
