This guy killed a man in a bar fight, so he was sent to the infamous Angola Prison in Angola Louisiana. He was discovered there by Dr. Harry Oster around 1959, when he got out he began recording. He did record some sides while there. Hogman Maxey, Guitar Welch and Otis Webster were also discovered but none ever recorded later on.

You'd want to mix him with Mississippi Fred McDowell, Mance Lipscomb, 1959 Lightnin' Hopkins sides and some Smokey Hogg.

I was in an old used book store around 1974 or so. They also had a few records, one of them was by that cat above. I paid the couple bucks, got it home and was stunned. I wasn't into them blues back then, sure we all knew about BB King, Hooker and Muddy but other than that, not much. He had a lot to do with my blues education. He made a huge impact.

So raw, so primitive, so real.

I don't have his prison recordings, but I do have those by those other cats I mentioned. Totally, wow! All of them could have made it as pro bluesmen.

I own one of his CD's, have another CD pictured in that second video, have a book with a mini bio of him and others. Also own 10 books about them blues and he is mentioned there.

Now think, why would I just pick them old blues to Google? That make any sense to you, me either. I own the music, I have the books.

Now if anyone here isn't some little punk kid they are going to want to widen those horizons. extend those perimeters. They will click on those videos.
