Former UK assistant Strickland arrested (http://www.insidehoops.com/blog/?p=10681)

LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) -- Former NBA guard and Kentucky assistant coach Rod Strickland was arrested near the Kentucky campus Thursday and charged with driving on a DUI suspended license.

Strickland, 46, was also charged with not having registered license plates and failure to signal.

The university said in a statement that Strickland was pulled over while driving to work and it was looking into the possibility that there was a clerical error regarding the license. Strickland pleaded guilty in 2010 to driving under the influence and his driver's license was suspended for 12 months.

Whatever; the guy was one hell of a guard with the Spurs and I was sorry to see him leave.

When I saw the thread title, I thought he got arrested for making a no-look pass at an undercover cop posing as a prostitute.

Blair only need to look at Strickland or Alvin Robertson to see what his future holds.

When has Blair ever been in trouble with the law/alcohol/drugs?

No shit. Alvin turned out to be a violent woman abuser and druggie. While DeJuan has had his issues with defense, he's always been a solid offensive big and rebounder and a nice guy to boot. You KNEW Alvin was going to go bad when he got into a fight with a couple of Spurs his first game back here after the trade to MILW.

There's this guy who's number is hanging in the rafters, James Silas? He was pretty good.

Why is Johnson's number hanging in the rafters and not Strickland's? :hat

He showed flashes and had a higher ceiling than just about any other point we have had, but was pretty inconsistent (and always hurt - or butthurt). He never posted even a 17 PER in his 3 years here. I think some Spurs fans seem to remember the initial burst he had with the team and/or the more consistent better play he would show in Portland a couple years later as what he typically provided - but that wasn't really the case.

In terms of actual Spur production, Avery stepped in and gave the Spurs virtually the same thing - with a little more steady hand. Rod would go on to exceed that in Portland, but never really did previously. But if you polled the fan base, I think a disproportionate percentage would remember Strickland as being more productive than Avery.

We are a little too quick to judge, IMHO. His license plate didn't check out and that's why he was stopped. It is entirely possible the error was not his.

Sure, his past is not in his favor. That doesn't mean he broke any laws.

I never liked him him as a Spur, less when he played for the Blazers.

OK, all that aside, he was drunk and that IS breaking the law.

He wasn't arrested for drunk driving in this case.

He was stopped for a traffic violation and then when the ran his DL it showed that it was suspended.

But if you read the article... that happened in 2010... and according to court records his DL was reinstated the next year.

Clerical errors... that should be something noted. I wonder how often there are mistakes like this that end up really screwing someone over.

If we would have had Strickland instead of Parker, we'd have 2 extra titles.

Strickland had the opportunity of a lifetime in SA, and he screwed up at every turn.

Anyone who thinks Strickland > Parker doesn't deserve to be a Spurs fan.
