View Full Version : Where's the outrage?

This happened Thursday and, yet, nothing.
No condemnation from the Rainbow Coalition, NAACP, Al Sharpton (Okay, I understand Sharpton since it's his employer). But seriously, where's the cannibalistic coverage from the other media outlets?
In my best Rod Serling voice:
"Imagine, if you will, a network that cuts to a commercial break, in which you have a chimpanzee performing gymnastics, immediately after it's premier sports talent makes a big deal out of the race of an African-American Olympic gold medalist and, no one finds it offensive. You've entered the Twilight Zone."

So, the outrage to perceived racism is not a visceral reaction to injustice but, instead, measured and selective.

I'm not outraged. I don't think it was racist. Commercial time is a product purchased and placed well in advance of what a network knows (beyond general broadcast content) is going to be broadcast on either side of that time.

bullshit, your first post asked why nobody was outraged, then you googled it hoping to find it discussed in the MSM but couldn't. The only thing you could find was the daily mail article which cites two (yep, two) twitter uses that criticized the ad. That must be enough in the daily mail's mind (and your's) to say that NBC is in the center of a race storm. Sounds like they and you and drudge are playing the race card. But, why?

Is this race baiting? If you expect someone to get mad over something like that, aren't you in a way race baiting? And isn't also racist to only get mad over that commercial if it had been aired after Bob was talking about a black girl? If he had been talking about a white girl, would anyone have given a shit?
I never understood the whole "black people are monkeys" bit. It's inaccurate because some white people look like monkeys. David Gregory reminds me of King Louie from the Jungle Book. And what about Bob Costas? He has a King Louie face going too.

tbh, NBC has made a completely fuckery of commercial placements, spoiling their own upcoming telecast with a promo for their morning show featuring the gold medal winner, 6 minutes before they telecast the race. Whoever was in charge of that aspect of the Olympics needs to be fired, and it has little to do with a chimp commercial.

There are many things I don't believe have a racial component and yet, the NAACP, the Rainbow Coalition, etc come out of the woodwork to condemn. One of the major instigators, over the years, is the visual use of monkeys, gorillas, chimpanzees, etc... and references to comical African stereotypes in too close proximity to a favored African-American.

It’s not OK to ignore this pro-Romney ad (http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/post-partisan/post/its-not-ok-to-ignore-this-pro-romney-ad/2012/07/25/gJQA7qvV9W_blog.html)
By telling potential voters “It’s OK to make a change,” the RNC is acknowledging all that I mention above. It’s OK to like the guy personally but not vote for him again. This is not a popularity contest. It’s OK to vote against the black guy. You gave him a shot. He gave it his best shot. He failed. And the most effective message is: “It’s OK to make a change” — and not be thought of as a racist.
Throughout Obama’s presidency, I’ve received more than a few e-mails and tweets from folks complaining that they are branded racist if they disagree with anything the president says or does. And it doesn’t help matters that I have seen more than a few e-mails and tweets from ardent Obama supporters doing exactly that. I have also seen instances of this on television and in print.
That’s why the “It’s OK to make a change” ad is the most dangerous for Obama’s reelection efforts. It give those few, yet crucial, undecided voters the pass they might be looking for to vote against Obama.
Think about what the writer is saying.
Apparently, this Washington Post writer believes this ad is dangerous because it frees people to vote against Barack Obama and not be considered racist. So, by saying that, isn't he admitting -- for himself anyway -- that a certain number of 2008 voters, that cast their ballots for voters, have stayed in the Obama camp because there is a tendency to paint criticism of Obama as racist?
Not only that, he's not trying to simply explain the phenomenon, he seems worried that this is the case. Quite revealing.
Yes, people see racism where it doesn't exist. Yes, many times, it results in hilarity -- other times, it runs the risk of completely destroying innocent people.
Just ask David Howard or George Zimmerman.

So you are trying to say that what they are thinking is inherently true because they think it?
It's a logical construct. Because it is X it inherently has the property of Y.
He is a man ipso facto he has testicles
The animal is a dog ipso facto it eats shit.
whatever one already thinks are ipso facto valid
The subject and predicate are pretty obvious. At best your usage is misleading/ambiguous.
It's a relation between something and it's inherent property. It's also well regarded as a fail in regards at an attempt at pedantry even when it is used correctly.
For example here is what Black's law dictionary:
Latin for “by the fact itself.” This term is used by Latin-addicted lawyers when something is so obvious that it needs no elaboration or further explanation.
