The Orlando Magic and Los Angeles Lakers are engaged with the Denver Nuggets and Philadelphia 76ers in a four-way blockbuster that could ultimately deliver superstar center Dwight Howard to the Lakers, league sources told Yahoo! Sports.

Dwight Howard will become a free agent at the end of this season. (AP)
A deal is not considered imminent, but the talks have grown serious over the course of this week, sources said.
There are other players involved in these fluid talks, but a framework of the possible deal includes Howard and Denver forward Al Harrington going to the Lakers, Philadelphia guard Andre Iguodala going to the Nuggets, Los Angeles center Andrew Bynum moving to the 76ers, and Los Angeles forward Pau Gasol and Denver guard Arron Affalo going to the Magic, sources told Yahoo! Sports.

The Magic would have a better chance of moving Gasol in another deal to get further assets, sources said, and eliminate the risk of Bynum leaving them as a free agent in 2013. Nevertheless, there was still a sense that Gasol's and Bynum's destinations could be fluid in the talks. Either way, one would go to Orlando and the other to Philadelphia, sources said.
The proposed deal includes the Magic also gaining draft picks and salary-cap relief, sources said.

That story is half true except the Lakers will be getting Iggy for Pau and Dwight to LA with Bynum and Pau going out...we'll then sign Kenyon Martin and Barbosa to fill out the roster :p:

Posturing. Either by Dwights people or Hennigan. But that is a horrible deal for a team that wants to rebuild. If this is another bluff attempt to get Houston to up offer, then they should pull the offer and let orlando get stuck.

If anything, the only team that really "wins" that trade are the Nuggets. Iggy wouldn't be a bad fit. Everything else doesn't really make sense, unless picks were to be involved, because the trade would make most of those involved worse. :lol

They want Pau because they feel he has good market value and can flip him for other assets. Although I don't see why on Earth you couldn't get as much for Dwight by himself :lol (unless the fact Pau is under contract for 2 more years guaranteed is the value so he can't just be a rental for a team trading for him).

ORL get: Arron Afflalo, Pau Gasol, and picks (guessing from LA and DEN)

Nash was a good addition, tbh, but I'm not sure about swapping Harrington/Howard for Bynum/Gasol..Harrington and Jamison are redundant, and Howard will be stuck carrying an entire defense once again, as he did in Orlando..

Howard is the best defensive player in the NBA, but he wants a larger offensive role, and he's aging with back concerns..I don't think he still wants to carry a defense at this point, with an abundance of defensive liabilities(Nash, Blake, Jamison, Harrington, Murphy, Kobe) and only 1 other above average defensive player(Artest)..

The Houston Rockets aren't dead quite yet.

Earlier today, a report featured the Orlando Magic in serious trade talks with the Los Angelels Lakers, Philadelphia Sixers and Denver Nuggets about a Dwight Howard blockbuster. Al Harrington, Andre Iguodala, Andrew Bynum, Pau Gasol and Arron Affalo were all players involved in the negotiations. Sports Illustrated is reporting that despite the significant nature of those talks, the Houston Rockets latest trade proposal for Howard is preferred by the Magic front office at this point in time.

Via Sam Amick, Sports Illustrated
Orlando has engaged in extensive talks with Houston which remain alive as well, and a source with knowledge of the Rockets' latest proposal said it would afford the Magic more assets to their liking than the potential four-team trade.

With Orlando looking to clear salary cap space and rebuild via the draft, some have surmised that -- if the four-team deal goes through -- the Magic could trade Gasol for younger prospects or more draft picks at a later time. But given the current NBA landscape, with the new collective bargaining agreement and the devastating luxury tax set to kick in after next season, and the interest in a 32-year-old forward with a combined $38 million on his deal for the next two seasons will likely be limited, if only because of the immense payroll implications.

Shitty deal all around for LAL, Dwight is good but he's not worth two 7 footers as skilled as Bynum and Gasol and the Lakers already have a Harrington type player in Jamison.

EDIT: Misunderstood. Sorry, I just think its a longshot that Houston will give up as many young assets and picks for a one year rental of Dwight that Orlando would want.

Well if Howard was going to be a Laker, he would have been one by now. The Cleveland-Orlando-Dwight story was leverage over Houston. This story is leverage over Houston. L.A. CANNOT deal for Howard straight up. Houston can.

Orlando has no leverage. Which is why they keep leaking stories like this. They want to rebuild and start over, but they say they want to deal for Gasol and Afflalo? Worst bluff yet. Dwight's not guaranteed to be a rental btw. He opted in to keep the extra money, meaning he didn't pass up 30 million dollars to go to the number one destination on his list (Brooklyn). Now, if he didn't pass up the money to go to his first option, why would he pass up that extra year to go to his last option?

I love how the insiders are pretending as if Gasol might be involved. We all know how this is going to end because its the same way it was always going to end. The Lakers are not only getting Howard, but they're going to somehow get away with not giving up Gasol in the process. Watch the Magic inexplicably settle for Afflalo (who's overpaid and makes no sense for a re-building team), Chandler to be the other so-called significant piece, Vucevic and a boatload of meaningless draft picks, even though the Rockets can easily beat that offer. But it's too much fun to bail the Lakers out of bordering on or full on irrelevancy.

I love how the insiders are pretending as if Gasol might be involved. We all know how this is going to end because its the same way it was always going to end. The Lakers are not only getting Howard, but they're going to somehow get away with not giving up Gasol in the process.
are you a wizard? espn reports the deal is complete and does not include gasol as of this moment.

holy fuck...

A four-team trade that would send Dwight Howard (http://espn.go.com/nba/player/_/id/2384/dwight-howard) to the Los Angeles Lakers (http://espn.go.com/nba/team/_/name/lal/los-angeles-lakers) is complete, multiple sources told ESPN on Thursday night.
A source with direct knowledge of the talks told ESPN.com's Marc Stein that the Lakers will receive Howard, the Denver Nuggets (http://espn.go.com/nba/team/_/name/den/denver-nuggets) will get Andre Iguodala (http://espn.go.com/nba/player/_/id/2386/andre-iguodala), the 76ers will get Andrew Bynum (http://espn.go.com/nba/player/_/id/2748/andrew-bynum) and Jason Richardson (http://espn.go.com/nba/player/_/id/1018/jason-richardson), and the Magic will get Arron Afflalo (http://espn.go.com/nba/player/_/id/3187/arron-afflalo), Al Harrington (http://espn.go.com/nba/player/_/id/308/al-harrington), Nikola Vujecic and one protected future first-round pick from each of the other three teams.
In addition, the Magic will be getting other pieces, including 76ers draft pick Moe Harkless (http://espn.go.com/nba/player/_/id/6591/moe-harkless), a source told Stein.
Sources close to the process tell Stein and ESPNLosAngeles.com's Ramona Shelburne that a trade call with the league office has been scheduled for Friday to secure the necessary NBA approval to make the deal official.
Lakers forward Pau Gasol (http://espn.go.com/nba/player/_/id/996/pau-gasol) had been in and out of talks, sources told Shelburne.
Earlier Thursday, Yahoo! Sports, citing sources, reported that talks of a four-team trade involving Howard have taken place this week and have "grown serious."
Sources told ESPN The Magazine's Chris Broussard that Philadelphia has not spoken to Bynum or his representatives and has no assurances he will sign a long-term extension with the club.
"The Sixers are willing to take a shot (without Bynum's commitment)," one source said.
Although Bynum signing an extension with the 76ers is not out of the question, according to a source, his stance all summer has been he only will sign an extension with the Lakers.

I would roll my eyes but this is just the Lakers being the Lakers. They pretty much get whoever they want, whenever they want. That's what happens when you're the team 99% of players grow up wanting to play for (including Tim Duncan) while being in the best market ... so there's really no reason to be angry. Tbh, with their built-in advantages, the Lakers should win every NBA championship.

But, anyways, what are the ripple effects of this trade in terms of the Spurs? My first thought is it should be an even bigger priority for the Spurs to sign another center. I haven't liked what I've seen when Splitter tries to defend Howard.

Thankfully, Duncan does rather well against him, especially when you factor in both ends of the court. But it's undeniable that the Lakers are now much improved.

*sigh* - TimVp

So it's a done deal, eh? Interesting trade, then. Lakers get Dwight Howard and keep Pau Gasol. In that case, that's a solid upgrade for them. Nuggets are still the winner of this trade to me, though. Iggy is going to be great in Denver. Congrats on that Denver fan.

Still, terrible move by the Magic. They traded Howard for scraps that won't even help them rebuild. Way to go, Orlando.

They keep throwing teams together, totally changing the landscape and expecting a good result in the 1st year. You need a really super team to get that, and they don't have one. Solid take, tbh... also, the Lakers are completely changing their offensive system as well, which won't be an easy transition after years of running the Triangle...

The Princeton Offense is bound to work better than the crap they were running last year, also known as "fart around for 20 seconds, then force Kobe to heave it up with no time left on the shot clock." Passing, moving without the ball, getting shots from different spots on the floor... the Lakers were begging for an offense that let them do that last year.

With an intelligent offense and a massive defensive upgrade in the paint, I like next year's Lakers way better than last year's model.

Damn it. :depressed

Great move for the Lakers, they're easily the best team in the West on paper..I have no idea how you get Howard without moving both Bynum and Gasol, but they pulled it off, as usual..

Kobe, Mike Brown and age are still 3 major concerns, but Howard is a major upgrade over Bynum, regardless of the back concerns..

This Lakers team was 2 Kobe choke jobs away from winning the West, Howard makes up the difference, tbh..

Absolutely atrocious deal for Orlando..Afflalo has peaked and has a shitty contract..Al Harrington is useless for a team like Orlando, a lesser version of Ryan Anderson(these types of players aren't as effective without a C like Howard)..

Very good deal for Philly..they finally have a post presence, Bynum should dominate the East, adding much needed balance..Richardson adds another shooter to the list, giving them flexibility for additional moves..

Good deal for the Nuggets..Iguodala adds much needed defense on the perimeter, they have a nice nucleus, they should be a perennial 1st round/2nd round exit..

Great move for the Lakers. I think they wrapped it up with this move. I don't see OKC beating them. Howard will kill them in the paint. Unlike San Antonio, they don't have to rely on a PG to score.

BTW Mitch is the GOAT. :wow

I really think Jerry & Mitch pushed Jim aside because that pot head can't possibility pull off a trade like this.

I expect Gasol & Howard to have career years in FG% efficiency.

It's got to be 99% done. Kobe just issued a statement.

Kobe Bryant released the following statement on his Facebook page in response to the Lakers' trade of Andrew Bynum for Dwight Howard.
"Well, it looks like Superman has found a home," wrote Bryant. "I wish nothing but the best for Big Bynum. I hope he follows what was a great season last year with an even better one next year. I know LA is excited about the deal and rightfully so. The Lakers landed a piece that will hopefully carry the franchise long after I'm gone. I have spoken to Dwight Howard already and we are locked and loaded to bring back the title. Wow, what a summer Jimmy and Mitch have had so far. Unreal! I'm focused on our semifinal game vs Argentina but I had to pause for a few to send you my thoughts, in case you were curious.."

Dude, 76ers got the best deal. Iguoadala is expendable. He's a swing man with limited offeinsve abilities. A 3rd option at best. Bynum will be huge in Philly assuming his health permits him to play 80 games a season. He was groomed well by Kareem and has championship experience. Despite of his immaturity he will do well under Coach Collins and I expect better things from him now that he finally has a team that can call his own. I really like the 76ers future tbh.

WINNER: Steve Nash, again "Hmmmmm … what should we do on this play? Should I run the high screen with Pau again? I could always just take a rest and dump it over to Kobe for a play. Or, I could beat my guy, try to draw Dwight's guy over and throw him an alley-oop that he'll catch as long as it's within five feet of the rim. God, this is fun. Eff it, I think I'll just shoot a 3 — if it doesn't go in, Dwight will just get the rebound, anyway … "

Man, it's going to cost you a kidney or a lung to afford any tickets to Staples next year. You have the Lakers building their team, the Clippers on the rise with BG and CP3 and don't forget it is also home to the defending Stanley Cup champion Kings. It'll cost a tiny fortune to take in games this upcoming season :sad
