The Lakers getting (insert player here). Nothing to get worked up about anymore. I just accept it as part of the game.

This. The system perpetuates itself. The Lakers have a 10 year $1.5 billion tv deal with Time Warner Cable so its not like they can't afford to spend outrageously even with the new taxes. When they start to struggle or falter for a few seasons, then they trade a star player on the decline to a smaller market desperate for something to put fans in the seats, and in return they get a huge trade exception and promising young assets or draft picks.

Just the way the NBA as a business has been constructed. And given the money the Lakers are going to be paying out to the rest of the league in luxury tax on top of the new revenue sharing, there isn't going to be much incentive to change it anytime soon.

Just makes the Spurs run the last 15 years or so, and players like Tim, Tony, and Manu all the more special when you think about the loyalty they've shown and the sacrifices they've made.

I hate the trade just as much as any Spur fan, but some of your reactions are hilarious.

Agreed the spurs last chance to win a title was last year so there is no reason to get down about this trade. Also Dwight is an upgrade on Bynum but not a huge upgrade. He is a little bit better then Bynum in every category points, blocks, rebounds but not a huge difference. From an intimidation standpoint I think the Lakers will miss Bynum's size and dirty play. Either way the Lakers lost to the thunder due to having crappy perimeter players who couldn't play defense so I don't see how that changes now with Dwight.

Ehhh.... by the time the next CBA negotiation rolls around, I wouldn't be shocked if plenty of small-market teams try to force their way into second or third banana status in big markets, or even get contracted, with all the owners at each others' throats, tbh.... I mean, it's already starting with the Kings trying to move to Anaheim and creep in on the LA market.... Then there would have to be changes made, tbh...

Go to las Vegas now if there is some gambling for who gets the no 1 pick, I guarantee it will be the magic. Just look at the trend
After lebron left, kyrie Irving went to the cavs, chris Paul then Anthony Davis, now the only question is who will be the magic get.

This trade is Grand-fuckin'-Larceny, and that's putting it lightly. At least Brook Lopez *could*, and I use that world very loosely, become a star player, but he'd have to stopped being a pussy and start rebounding like a 7'1'' center. This deal reeks of bullshit.

Yes, the built-in advantages of having the savvy to pick the youngest player ever drafted and then not unloading him for trash. It really comes down to the Lakers having, by far and away, the best front office in the NBA for the past 30+ years.

I know, it hurts. :pop:

You're fucking retarded. That sly Kobe pickup is one thing, but the Fakers have pulled this shit for decades. And no, their FO is VERY highly overrated. Yes, LA has a beach, great night life filled with douchebags, and tons of money grubbing whores with fake tits. That is the pull their front office uses to get any desperate loser with a huge ego to come to LA. I think it's almost a chickenshit move by a certain players desperate for a ship that drives this monstrosity.

Duncan is the epicenter of a mega-superstar... Started with immediate success. He could have gone to any place he desired, but his loyalty is unsurpassed. Duncan should have a shrine right next to Robinsons.

Dwight & Drew will not sign an extension with any team at this time…After this season they will be eligible to sign 5 year max deals…Lakers payroll is about 100 million before luxury tax’s kick in…That being said the Lakers never lose a star player to the free agent market...

And this article (http://www.hardwoodparoxysm.com/2012/08/13/its-the-end-of-the-max-extension-as-we-know-it/) basically implies that letting the contract expire and re-signing with the new team as an FA is better financially for the player.

Lakers traded Kwame Brown for Pau Gasol and Andrew Bynum for Dwight Howard... I wouldn't doubt anything if it somehow benefited the NBA's cash flow. They'll weigh their options at the end of the season but I doubt LA loses Dwight since it assures their relevancy post-Kobe.

I actually like Bynums game better. Howard is obviously the better athlete but Bynum is the better basketball player.

I guess we'll find out whether Bynums bad attitude was a result of his immaturity or Kobe's lack of trust. Its probably both so Kobe's lack of trust will still be a factor with Howard, someone whose commitment issues are also in question.

Most of us LA fans know that Bynum is more offensively skilled and has a better touch than Dwight and I don't even think it's close. Dwight's game, much like LeBron's, is predicated mainly on athleticism. When that starts to go, they won't be nearly as effective. I believe Bynum will be a better player than Howard in about 2 years. But the Lakers problem wasn't about getting a better player, but a better fit next to Gasol. Howard is PERFECT. He is going to Gobble up every damn rebound and let Gasol do his work in the post.

I still think that this team ceiling relatively healthy is WCF, this is what I had before season start. They still can do it as the rest of the West is not that good, it will all depend on TP and on Tim new youth. Silver lining here is that TP normally doesn't need a lot of time to shake the rust so if he could come back healthy a couple of games before the POs he should be fine. But even in that case, I don't see the Spurs capable to go through OKC even sans Harden, they are too young, too fast and too good at drawing fools imho

I would roll my eyes but this is just the Lakers being the Lakers. They pretty much get whoever they want, whenever they want. That's what happens when you're the team 99% of players grow up wanting to play for (including Tim Duncan) while being in the best market ... so there's really no reason to be angry. Tbh, with their built-in advantages, the Lakers should win every NBA championship.

But, anyways, what are the ripple effects of this trade in terms of the Spurs? My first thought is it should be an even bigger priority for the Spurs to sign another center. I haven't liked what I've seen when Splitter tries to defend Howard.

Thankfully, Duncan does rather well against him, especially when you factor in both ends of the court. But it's undeniable that the Lakers are now much improved.
