one of the most revered events in the Olympics. winner is often called, "the world's greatest athlete".

are there any athletes (Olympic or otherwise) that could win the decathlon with only a few weeks of training?

seems like something several NFL players would dominate

Bo Jackson was a high school decathlete.

Events like the pole vault, high jump and the hurdles would do them in. Nobody could score enought points in the 100, long jump, 400, throws to off set the inability to score in those events. How many NFLers can run a 1500?

Jim Thorpe and Milt Campbell two Olympic decathon champs who did play in the NFL.

a non-chokejob goodwin could easily do it

He could score in the long jump, 100, 400. Now what?

If we did have an NFL Decathon Challenge (no Thorpe or Campbell)

Bo Jackson
Renaldo Nehemiah
Michael Timpson
Mel Renfro
John Henry Johnson
Willie Gault
Christian Okoye

Would be the closest to an actual competition,

i bet he could run a 1500. he's not a big dude, and receivers need endurance like no other.

I hear ya, I can see him handling a 1500 just not overly fast.

None of the NFLers except Bo and John Henry Johnson who were HS decathletes could score enought in any few events to make up for their total failure in others.

1500 should be no challenge since most athletes do run in the morning dont they?
