He was an elite regular season performer at the ages of 25-34. Monster stats. High level stuff.

He was a good to very good playoff performer, but obviously wouldn't be the lead guy on a championship. No different from any other small PG to be honest outside of a 6'9 dude who could play all 5 positions.

I just stole DoK's theory and ran away with it in this thread.

Lots of people tend to overrate him and rank him in the top 15, but he was an elite player.

Overrated honky.

Disagree. Overrated player, but his contributions to honkidom have been overlooked for far too long.

Stockton was the original Chris Paul without all the injuries.

To be honest. I think Isiah is a bit overrated.

Underrated. Fantastic floor leader, tough as nails (and a dirty streak to back it up as well), fantastic in the half court, great shooter.

If he had a half-decent big, like a Robinson, Barkley, Kemp, or maybe even Ewing instead of an overrated pedophile, Stockton may have been able to win a ring during the Jordan baseball years or in 98, during the tail end of Jordan's reign.

neither, he got the praise he deserved, he never wont a ring though, but was part of the dream team, and a solid contributor i might add, but he was an elite player during that era, and you have to respect him for that

Neither. He's a HOFer who never rang. He's rated about right, and in the top 10 PGs of all time.

underrated

Stockton today would be rated just a little bit lower than Chris Paul. He hated to lose and would do anything to win. He is rated right about where he should be.

I agree. I would only put Paul over him in today's game. He was a great player.

I have never seen that in my life.

Generally I would say he's underrated. I think he made Malone a lot better than he really was.

Stockton was clutch

He never rang because of that choker Malone

Malone was a massive choker who lived off of Stockton's pick and roll.

Malone was good, but people who try to say he is > Duncan or Barkley, should just kill themselves.

And he was able to finish because the passes were made where he almost couldn't miss. Except he did miss....when it counted the most.

Used to read insidehoops forum, 9 people out of 10 would put Stockton in their top 15, some in the top 10. I figure they represent a large portion of average basketball fans born in the 80s

Barkley...ran into mj
Ewing...ran into mj and olajuwan
Kemp...ran into mj
Robinson...ran into olajuwan

I don't remember the Lakers ringing in the 90s. Magic did get to the finals in '91 but....oh that's right....he ran into mj.

dude was an underachiever in NBA who got a bit overrated imho. they played the bulls in the finals twice and witnessed MJ's last two NBA championships, he and malone are often mentioned as a proof of how good jordan was rather than that how good they themselves were

Stockton is a top 5 PG all-time. He's a top 25 player.

MJ isn't the only reason. The Bulls won because they had the better teams. MJ was a dominant player when he ran into the Pistons three times in a row and lost.

He's white so naturally he tends to get overrated.

I would put Magic, Kidd, Nash and Isiah over him.

Malone owes the majority of his status to Stockton. Stockton was a machine, second only to Magic in the point guard dept during that era.
The Admiral probably would have retired with a bag of rings and all-time scoring title if he played alongside Stockton.

Wow what are they smoking?

Stockton is great (definitely > Malone), but not that great.

If Stockton played in NY or LA, there'd be statues of him all over town.
