Yeah but the thing is this - he didn't have to rat Shaq out. It was completely irrelevant to the interrogation. There was no reason whatsoever to mention Shaq. The detectives never asked about it. If you read the transcript, the Shaq mention is a complete non sequitur. He just brings it up out of the blue. And even then, he could have said "other guys on the team pay women to keep them quiet" but for no reason at all he singles out Shaq.

It was a childish, dick move. His obsession and competitiveness with Shaq was so intense that even under police interrogation, Kobe couldn't just handle his shit like a man. He had to find a way to bring Shaq down with him.
