...President to talk about issues that have nothing to do with the campaign and over which the President has no personal knowledge?

First, it was the content of the SVFT ads. It had to be the content because, Bush had no personal knowledge of what happened in the Mekong Delta in the late 60's and he had already condemned ALL 527 attack ads as being harmful to the political process.

Now, it's the authenticity of memos ostensibly written by a dead guy 32 years ago. The White House was provided copies of the memos by CBS which they immediately re-released to the Press Corps without comment on the content or authenticity, pursuant to the Presidents pledge to make available all known documents related to his Air National Guard Service, (By the way, why is Kerry still holding back on about 95% of his military records after he said he'd release them all?). What, exactly, does Senator Kerry want him to say?

Well because they are hits on Bush the man. That's what Kerry's campaign has been about all along. The problem is that Kerry's own credibility has taken a hit as well so he's arguing that he's the man of greater integrity from a rather weak base.

Tactically, the Kerry campaign/CBS/NY Times/Boston Globe attack on Bush's national guard service this week was a positive for the Kerry campaign simply because it is soaking up attention that would otherwise be focused on tomorrow's 3rd anniversary of 9/11. The timing was certainly not a coincidence. Kerry needed some interruption between the GOP convention and this weekend.

Actually, if the source of these documents is the Kerry campaign or they knew they were fakes, well, it's over. Which of course would be rather stupid because the Bush lived a wild life and a privileged one as a young man has already been established in the national consciousness. They didn't need to risk so much political capital for so little.

Also, if it does become clear that Rather went public with documents of dubious origin then whatever credibility as a "journalist" he had is gone forever. Where the Kerry campaign ends and CBS News begins is not clear.

What the **** are you two smoking? :smokin2

The new documents released by the administration were not previously release even though the AP had aquired every right to see the documents.

Not surprisingly, more spin from Yonivore. Haven't we proven him wrong to many times to take him seriously?

Talk about taking things seriously and "proving someone wrong"...

The next time you're right on anything Dan will be the first.

To answer the original question:

Until Bush starts campaigning for Kerry, they will not be happy. Everything else is just "partisan politics."

Um danny, re-read that sentence again:

The White House was provided copies of the memos by CBS which they immediately re-released

I understood that to mean that the White House simply released the documents it received from CBS.
