I don't know about yall but I have been with the Spurs since Duncan was drafted LOL I have been saying since we won last championship were going to win time and time again last year I predicted that Detroit and San Antonio will battle it out this year and we will come through in the end and all this time all i see are Spurs haters everywhere I go and Tim Duncan haters and I ask myself how can you hate Tim Duncan not only is he an exceptional player but he's also humble? Anyways the point is since we won I see more and more fans I wonder why? The same retards who were hating on the Spurs are saying go Spurs :oops I don't get it anyways there's going to be more bandwagon fans where that came from anyways it's a myth that your only a Spurs fan if your from San Antonio... I'm not from San Antonio and I'm a die hard Spurs fan matter of fact I'm not even from the United States I'm from Toronto Canada and I even went to see a Raptors versus Spurs time once upon a time and I almsot got jumped my question is where is everyone else from?

Didnt read it all but I get accused of being a bandwagon fan all the time since I live in Wisconsin. Even though I have been a Spurs fan for almost a decade (Im only 20 yrs old btw, they got me hooked when I was young! :)) people here in the Mad City (Madison, Capital of Wis.) think I am only a Spurs fan cuz they have been winning recently. Oh well, that doesnt discourage me from wearing my Spurs gear all the time.

I hopped on the bandwagon when the wagon was just a broken down ABA wagon that Dallas could not afford to keep. The wagon got near the top of the mountain a few times only to have a wheel fall off right before it got there. I busted my ass a few times when the wagon crashed and burned in the mid Eighties, and in 96-97.....but I held on and boy am I glad I did, because the view up here of the sunsets from this wagon looking down on the valley is a beautiful sight, especially in June..

I'm from San Antonio. I was born at Santa Rosa Hospital in 1980. I grew up with DRob and Vinny Del Negro as role models. That doesn't make me any more of a fan than someone who is from Anchorage,Alaska. This term "bandwagon fan" gets thrown around a lot here and of course we are going to get new fans now that we've won a championship. All I can say is the more the merrier.

i get accused of being a bandwagon fan frequently by people who do not know me well. my dad lived in san antonio for a brief period and i started following the team religously in david's rookie year.

I actually thought it would be hard to be called a bandwagon fan for the Spurs, since NO ONE is supposed to like them. I guess I was wrong! I'm lucky to be in San Antonio and I've been on the wagon since Dave's rookie year, good time to jump on even though it took a decade to pay off! But San Antonio has it's bandwaggoners too, a couple of Lakers fans that rubbed 0.4 in my face last year had nothing but Spurs gear on this year. I hate guys like that. The only good thing that a Spurs loss would've brought would be the ability to see who the "real" fans are.

Very nicely put.
I jumped on when Dave was just a rookie card I mean player and I've NEVER jumped off (Dave has always been my role model too). Funny you mention Vinny, I hadn't thought about him awhile. Living in Los Angeles it's incredibly tough going out & cheering (last year was a nightmare) so I usually stay @ home with my girl who I turned into a massive fan as well. You gotta jump on sometime, I guess. It's a matter of how much heart you have to stick with your boys!

Hmm...I guess I could be called a bandwagon fan , but its not becuase the spurs win championships. Actualy I never realy watched sports at all until I moved to San Antonio 4 years ago and the city gave me spurs fever. I became interested in the spurs becuase of how involved the team members are in the community. I thought "Damb these guys are just freakin cool ". Every where I went spurs, spurs, spurs. I got... ASSIMILATED.

Spursy, I wouldn't call you a bandwagonner, you just have good timing. You still had to endure some of the Lakers years... You've dealt with the bad, now enjoy the good!

The more silver and black around the world the better.
And it is DEFENITELY a myth that you can't be a real Spurs fan if you are not from San Antone.

I'm definately not old enough to actually remember this myself, but i'm gonna take a shot in the dark and say that the chill factor was none other than the Iceman himself, George Gervin. Of course, if I'm way off with this one, let me know. It's just a guess. Although I do have the Tim Duncan slam poster where he's supposed to be the new age iceman, and right next to it sits the original (which is much cooler btw, although I'd like to have my own chair made out of ice).

I really don't like itwhen the term "bandwagonner" gets thrown around. The better a team plays, the more they get noticed. That's why fanbases increase after championships. It's not always the fan's fault that they noticed and started to love a tema during a championship run. The important thing is how that fan is going to respond when the team isn't winning anymore or is in a slum.

I live 60 miles south of SA, been here all my life. I have been supporting the Spurs since I can remember. Probably since I was around 4 - 5. I remember when I was 9 I met George Gervin and Johnny Moore.

I just was called a bandwagonner. (but not here)
Fuck that guy.
It was some kind of coincidence that I started to chher for the Spurs but I am with them since '95 ( so not that long). And I remebmer thet year with those 20 wins and Dominique as a best player.
And then Tim Duncan came. Awesome player , awesome person, mu idol if I can say that. (maybe if he leave the spurs (what not gonna happen in his prime :) ) I would go were he would go. But I alwayes will be with the spurs no mater what.

The more bandwaggoners, the better the ratings in the finals...the better merchandise will sell, the less we have to listen to people say no one cares about the Spurs, that they are boring etc...the more money Holt will have to spend fielding a title contender...
I say climb aboard...I'd like to see the Spurs become the most popular basketball team in the World...they should be the most popular basketball team in the World.
And remember...if people become basketball fans because of the Spurs...they aren't bandwaggoners...

Awesome! I remember those shirts...I remember the commercial with Willie A and Sean Elliott pimping the "Chill" shirts and Sean's "Ninja" shirts.
Sean: "Hey chill"
Willie : "Hey Ninja"
:lol
born and raised here in SA...went to my first game in 1974 at the tender age of 4. Spurs-Pacers game. Back when the gold seats (lower level) were $6 a piece! Needless to say I learned some new words that day. :)
Been through the good times and the bad times so I am loving life right now!
