So my wife and I are going to Vegas in October. Last year we went for the first time and everything was just perfect. We did a little bit of everything. Shows, gambling, shopping, dinner, drinking and a ton of sight seeing. A friend highly recommended The Mandalay Bay. I booked a standard room and on check in was upgraded to a Sky View Suite with strip view on the 62nd floor. Everything was so clean upscale and immaculate.

So now we've already bought our flights and are looking for a similar experience but closer to the center of the strip. I'm considering the Planet Hollywood, MGM, Cesar's Palace, Paris and Aria. The problem is the Aria is a little more than what I would like to pay for a standard room without the guarantee of an awesome upgrade. However I've read a ton of reviews on the Hotels mentioned above and there are so many mixed reviews that I'm lost.

If anyone here has spent time in Vegas recently and have a recommendation please reply. I;m having a hard time making a decision and have already cancelled a reservation with PH.

Thanks

son I go to Vegas at least twice a year and trust me you would love the new suites at the Cosmopolitan. their suites are badass and the best part is they have balconies. spend a little more money to get the "fountain view" and you can sit out on the balcony watching the Bellagio fountains go off. its also near middle of the strip. I think I paid about $250 a night for this 1 bedroom "terrace fountain view" ....

this, except ask for the east highrise.........somewhere around the 20th floor. they call it the premium view. the balcony which is huge, wraps around the front of the strip and side, facing the fountains. the suites have full kitchens.

We're going to Vegas the Sunday through Wednesday of Thanksgiving week. Still deciding where to stay, but I have heard and read great reviews about the Aria. Thinking though, of saving the extra money and staying 3 star, like New York, New York or the Luxor.

Believe it or not the premium rooms at the Flamingo are pretty nice and they have some with great views of the Bellagio fountains.

Aria is a great place to stay and is right in the middle of the strip.

I went in december which a standard room was included with the airfare but they upgraded me once i got to the hotel. So im not sure how much the sky suite is regularly but its damn nice. There is also a mall right next door.

Well thanks for all the help. I've heard great things about Aria and I'm leaning more this route. I would love to stay at the Cosmo but $250 a night is too rich for my blood. I found a discount code that gets me a 30% discount at Aria total with resort fees and tax for 4 nights would be 831.00. Problem is that I have a discount code that gets me out the door at the Cesar's Palace for 4 nights at 560.00. So at least I've narrowed it down to 2.

I wish I would've stayed in a shit hole 2 star hotel to begin with. Then I could have enjoyed working my way up to 3 then 4 then 5 star hotels. But damn we had to start at the fucking top. Set the standard.

This is exactly what happened to us at Mandalay Bay. That was part of my problem. I'm thinking that if you stay at a nicer hotel chances of getting a kick ass upgrade is higher. As opposed to staying at the PH or MGM where I've heard that some people complained about real issues in there initial booked room and the staff didn't give a shit. In essence you get what you pay for both ways.

I plan on staying a full day downtown this time to take all that in for better or worse. Other than that we plan on watching several shows in that area of the strip. Plus I really enjoyed the whole vibe on that part of the strip and gambled at the Cesars, Harrahs, Bill's Gambling hall and Bally's. So I wanted to get a little more action at Monte Carlo's, Flamingo, Aria, Mirage, Cosmo and so on.

Yea Aria is a nice place but i would go with Caesars for that price. The only thing I missed out on at Aria was meeting Steven Tyler. They were doing American Idol auditions (didnt know that at the time) and he was wearing a cap so i didnt recognize him. My asshole brother in law was behind me and got to shake his hand. Didnt tell me that until the trip home :lol

They have not closed the flamingo. They closed Osheas there is an expansion going on between Flamingo and Osheas right now but Flaming is very much open and pretty nice they have dumped untold millions in rennovations over the last few years.

Your room depends on your budget, if you only plan on sleeping in your room, get a cheaper room so you can spend more gaming, shows food etc. There are plenty of places with decent rooms that are reasonable, i just think its foolish to blow huge cheese on rooms that you will only be using to sleep in (probably a few hrs per night/day if you are like most people)

Both of you guys make great points. It's true too. we only spent a few hours total in our room last year. We literally checked in and stayed out till 5am first night. Wake up at 9am and do our thing for 8 hours then go back to the room to refresh. This usually would be like an hour or 2 break. Then stay out another 8 hours at night. The only night we turned in early was the last night because we were on fucking fumes. That and we messed up and caught a cirque de solei show on our forth night and we could barely keep our eyes open. We just plain ran out of gas.

This time though I think we would enjoy the room a little more being that it would be in closer proximity to where we will be (center strip) and would be more convenient to go back and forth if needed. Plus will be with friends this time and we think that drinking more heavily will be involved. Last time we couldn't catch a buzz for shit. And we were drinking mixed drinks. So either way ill be happy with either. Out of the two though you cant beat Caesars Palace for 560.00 for 4 nights. Plus I already like the casino and surroundings and no resort fees! The location is probably the best too. Now I'm really considering booking Caesars. Good thing is I have time to watch rates and discounts and can cancel 48 hrs in advance if needed.

Heath Ledger

Heres a tip, there is a gift shop in Ceasars that you can buy beer and liquor (not mixed drinks) at very reasonable prices. So go in there and stock up versus paying the casino floor prices unless your gaming in which case its free. Also down by Carnival court next to harrahs there is an all out liquor store right on the corner of las vegas drive in front of Carnival court.

Got that same room on the 59th (tech 49th) floor for $110 last month thanks to a family friend, who works there, hooking me up. I could have gotten the two bedroom 1,200 sq ft suite for the same price but the last one got booked the day before I booked my hotel room. The master bathroom is crazy nice. That jacuzzi tube was the shit.

The only thing that sucked was it cost 15 dollars for 24 hours of wifi and the refrigerator is a glorified mini bar. Stocked with 5 dollar cans of coke. No real room for your own personal stuff but two shelves at the top.

Haha, first time I went to Vegas I stayed 2 days + nights and the only sleep I got was in the car in the Whiskey Pete's parking lot by the CA border on I-15 before finishing the drive back to LA. That was in my twenties though when one can do shit like that. :lol

When I was 15 or 16 I spent about six hours sitting/sleeping in a van in the Whiskey Pete's parking lot while my gambling addicted mother and grandmother got their last fix there and across the way at the Primadonna on our way back home to LA.

Unless you plan on entertaining in your room, I wouldn't shell out that much just for a place to crash. If you plan on doing much gambling, my advice would be to stay someplace with a nice casino. MGM is probably my favorite just because its fucking massive. If location is what's important, some of the older hotels like Ballys or Flamingos are perfectly located at the center of the strip (just stay away from the imperial palace).

Try this site. I booked my hotel on here and got a super cheap deal on my 4 night stay in October at PH. Show tickets are also pretty decent. It beats waiting in long lines at the ticket places. But I would make sure that you check out the airlines vacation packages first. They could have the best non stop flights plus hotel deals in one shot. Planet Hollywood doesn't have the nicest rooms compared to others, but their clean. But the benefit of staying there is your connected to the indoor mall for easy shopping shows and restaurants. We made great use out of the Walgreens right next to the hotel for all the little necessaries that you'll end up needing. Not to mention the cheap booze they have. We ended up buying two cases of beer a day and packing into our backpack coolers and gambling for hours never waiting for a fresh cold beer. By the way the KOI in PH has really good Sushi.

Hope this helps!

Making my first legit trip to Vegas this march. Mainly going to watch the MWC basketball tourney (Go Lobos!) but I'll be there for about 5 nights. Paid 137 on Hotwire for a room at Circus Circus (Total for all 5 nights - not per night). I realize its not that great of a hotel compared to others there but that just leaves more budget for Poker and Vegas Shows!

This, tbh. First time I stay at MGM Grand, cool experience but not needed when you fall into bed @ 5 AM. Also it's at the far south end.

Second time I stayed @ Bill's gambling Saloon for like $35/night, central location. Good times.

I've wanted to go in that place so bad just to see the amusement park. But honestly every time we would pass it on the shuttle we would just say nah never mind. The walk from the street to the front of the hotel always looked way too far to bother. :lol But the cool thing about that area of the strip is the Peppermill Grill and Cafe across the street for a nice cheap dinner or breakfast at 4am.
