There is nothing new about biometric identification. Just that with faster computers and larger data bases, this becomes doable.

I just get the sense people are freaking out over this. As long as it is only being done in public, and not in people's back yards or houses, I'm not worried about it.

There are abuses that can happen like with any other technology. Progress will happen. As long as the distinction between public and private remains, I'm not going to grumble about it.

What do you think of citizens filming police actions? It isn't much different.

Why is it any different?

We have the right to photograph things in the public. Why doesn't law enforcement? Biometrics is just an extension it an ID process.

It's not the tool that scares me, it's how the tool can be abused.

We all agree we need law enforcement, otherwise the extreme libertarian (anarchist) will cause others harm. It happens anyway, but we agree to be governed for the good of society. Very few of us agree on the proper approach however.
