Technically speaking you don't die from AIDS, you die from the opportunistic infections that your body can no longer prevent. So I post without fear:
1. The Usual Suspects
2. Memento
3. Rocky IV
4. Batman
5. Airplane!

I think it's fucking hilarious. Top to bottom.
It is VERY slow, though, as are all of Jarmusch's films. Stranger Than Paradise and Dead Man, for instance, make Down by Law look like it's running in fast forward. Jarmusch is my favorite director (or is at least on a very short list), and I've loved all but one of his films, but if I'm not really in the mood to watch them, I'm asleep within fifteen minutes.

2001 is bloody great, read the books? I bought the 2061 or 2069 book when i was a kid, still never read it.
but the movie was always Kubrick's visual representation of life, where we come from, where we're going. IIRC, he brought Arthur C Clarke on board to help with the writing so that it was scientific and plausible. afterwards Clarke then turned it into novels. but to me it's always been meant to be a cinematic experience, i don't think anyone will ever top this film in terms of mystery, questions and scope. you can interpret it as God or aliens, but this movie represents awe and wonder like nothing else. this is Kubrick's masterpiece. as for Blade Runner, it's very close, i grew up with BR but sort of grew into 2001.
