A new rumor claims that Google and ASUS are currently working on a new version of their Nexus 7, one that will put the original’s $199 price tag to shame. According to a report from Digitimes, Google will launch a $99 version of the Nexus 7 alongside an updated, thinner $199 slate. Both tablets will feature HannStar Display panels, but little else is known about how hardware specs will shape up.
If Google manage to release a sub-$100 tablet providing a similar experience and quality to the original Nexus 7, the entire industry will be flipped on its head. If sales of the Nexus 7 are any indication of what an approachable price tag will do, just imagine the adoption rate for a name-brand tablet that costs a fifth of the price of an iPad. If these rumors pan out, we could see the result of Google’s strategy by the end of the year.

Damn, now we have to wait to get my step-daughter's christmas present. We wanted to get all of our xmas shopping done early and we were going to get her a nexus 7... If we can get a similar tab (she doesn't need something that powerful) for 99 then I am down.

Asus already denied it. Considering the Nexus 7 costs ~$150 to build, this makes zero sense.

well I still just convinced my wife to wait at least until black friday/cyber monday deals. You will never see me in a black friday line, but there are usually good prices in general around that time.

better to wait for warranty purposes too, you don't want to waste a few months of it.

This makes sense, didn't even think about that. She is worried to wait too long that they will be out.

Its close enough to launch date that if you register it after Christmas that they'll probably never know.

? Warranty clock starts at purchase whether you register or not.

Don't most places just go off of your register date?

Not that I am aware of, I never register anything unless they happen to offer an additional year of warranty for registering. I know most companies will only change purchase date if you submit a valid proof of purchase, usually a receipt.

And yeah, warranty is always date of purchase AFAIK.

At 100$ cheaper, I'm not sure if the specs will be as good

wait things out. You still got the surface, maybe they decide to sell it at cost .
things like the transformer will likely be cheap on black Friday
