Spurs vs Montepaschi Siena: Saturday Oct. 6th: 1st Preseason Game

Yes this is the first preseason game of the season and yes this isn't a NBA team, but Montepaschi Siena is the team of Spurs draft pick Viktor Sanikidze.

This will be the first time (hopefully there will be video somewhere) we get to see him against true NBA level talent. I'm sure the Spurs coaching staff are glad as well. Viktor presents some skills that could be useful down the road (he is only 26). From what I've seen he is a hustle type player that fills up the stat sheet especially with rebounds, blocks, and steals. He has improved his outside shot. Plus at 6'8 and long arms he has good size.

After yesterday, spent entirely (or almost) in air (Thursday morning starting at 11.05 am from Rome and arrived in San Antonio at 4:00 at night Italian time), and with little chance of recovering energy, Montepaschi now planning a day's work. The "schedule" includes double training session, with the first meeting at 10.00 am and the second at 18, both from the "Practice Facility", which is the training ground, the San Antonio Spurs. At the end of the evening session the team will host the Spurs for dinner.

Meanwhile continuing overseas interviews with the protagonists NBA, which immersed in their training camp, are still the time to speak of the Montepaschi. After Byron Scott and Omri Casspi of the Cleveland Cavaliers, here is the turn of an "ex" Italian, Gary Neal, seen in our league with the jersey of Benetton Treviso and currently under the Spurs.

As a longtime proponent of Sanikidze being brought for the minimum as a bench player, I think the possibility of a role for him is decreasing. He's likely a smallball 4, but Kawhi can fill that role in the future, and so could Stephen Jackson if he's kept. I did not see the game tonight, but I'm guessing he didn't look too hot.

The time I've spent in that building with many people from ST and SR (you know who you are ;) ), was some of the most wonderful of my life, and watching that really brought back great memories... oh, and sitting courtside for a game was AWESOME. :D

Can someone help me: I think I've forgotten the name of the wonderful blonde female usher in the background in the clip, but is it Rita? My memory is not what it used to be. She looked after me like a son in both 2003 and 2007 and was the one who pointed out DRob as he was coming out of the race (she knew I wanted to meet him), which gave me a chance to run over and have a chat with him in 07.
