There is actually a lot of fan support for Miami, fans just don't show up to home games. Miami usually has a pretty fair share of fans in opponents' stadiums, just check the BC and GT games from this season.

Miami's fan base is big and, much like Notre Dame, is very widespread nationally. Much of UM's student population comes out of state and goes out of state after school and it's a small population to begin with.

But can't equate Miami's home attendance to support of the team because in Miami's case they aren't telling the same story. Unfortunately, and I wish it weren't the case, Miami fans just don't seem to put their support where their money is (you know what I mean).

Miami easily has the worst LOCAL fanbase for every one of their sports teams. The location of Dolphin stadium is also one of the more retarded things you'll ever see. It's on the Dade-Broward County line, so it's inconvenient and far enough for both Miami and Ft. Lauderdale residents. It's also a goddamn pressure cooker--you'll get heatstroke going to a Dolphins or Canes game--definitely used to be the case with the Marlins too. There's no place to hide from the sun there except a few club seats. It's great that the Marlins have a new ballpark, but I definitely miss the intimacy and raucousness of the Orange Bowl--it was a classic home venue.

Unless your team is beating the piss out of every opponents, and an obvious title contender, Miamians would rather spend their time and money at the beach or on the water.

I saw a baseball game there. It's a terrible stadium and it is indeed a pressure cooker. That place needs to be razed.
