Fun fact: in 1860 around 20% of free blacks owned slaves of their own.

I once posted ....slavery was a blessing in disguise....as a thread topic, I agree 100%. I guarantee no Afro American wants to return to Africa.

Yes this must be said...

Slavery it's self was absolutely horrendous, don't let there be any misunderstanding there. It's the fact that those who came after slavery are so lucky to be here instead of Nigeria etc. Yes I 'm talking about in last the 40 years or so.

Please don't take this lightly it's very real...

Look at all the pro athletes. those in the entertainment world that wouldn't have had the opportunity in the Congo, Ghana etc.

Look at the black milionaires that wouldn't have been if they were in Africa.

If you click the link and read what else the guy has to say I think the "blessing in disguise" line one of the less insane things in there, though if one or two were reworded to sound less race baity they would sound like some criticisms that I've heard from African Americans I know. The reality is that slavery, its history, and its legacy in America are so complex and interwoven that you can't throw the merits and problems onto a scale and declare it "good" or "bad". Personally I've always disliked this turn of phrase because it seems to imply "you people owe us a thank you."

No it didn't have to be.

Wrong as usual. If you don't say that you will read..."so you were ok with slavery"....yep, that's how it always goes.

The only positive that came out of slavery was Black music, and the incredible influence it would make in the decades ahead for music of all kinds.

Too bad that when Blacks finally began to be treated like real people that the entire Black music culture has turned into garbage as a result.
