Arthroscopic surgery is a possibility for Dallas Mavericks (http://espn.go.com/nba/team/_/name/dal/dallas-mavericks) star Dirk Nowitzki (http://espn.go.com/nba/player/_/id/609/dirk-nowitzki) if his sore and swollen right knee doesn't respond to a week of rest and treatment.
Nowitzki, who sat out Tuesday's loss to FC Barcelona Regal in Spain, is experiencing soreness and swelling in his knee for the second consecutive training camp. It bothered him several weeks into the season last year, something he wants to avoid happening again.
"We'll see how it responds," Nowitzki said, according to The Dallas Morning News. "But the longer we wait, obviously the worse it is. If we have to do something, it'd be better to do it quick.
"But we're still hopeful that this is a temporary thing. If we relax and rest it for a week and see how it goes, then we'll have a better idea."
If Nowitzki does have to undergo arthroscopic surgery next week, he might be able to return in time to play in the Mavericks' Oct. 30 season opener against the Lakers in Los Angeles.
Nowitzki, 34, said the pain and stiffness in the knee is similar to what he felt during last year's training camp.

you guys think dirk is the ironman or what? dude's been hampered by his knee for quite a while now and i'd rather see him have a good rest and come back 100% fit rather than continue to play below his normal level with the injury tbh. what's funny is a rox fan starts a thread gloating about the injury of another team's player, having forgotten the 7'6 dickhead that collected 34 million w/o doing one damn thing good for his team in 2 years of time

i doubt the mavs are going to get anywhere with or without dirk.. but i gotta respect dirk as a player, hopefully he can figure it out and still play at a high level.. guys a baller, that franchise is done if dirk is.

Has one superstar ever carried an entire franchise on their square shoulders as much as Dirk has?

As much as I think Cubes and the Jet are smug twits, I like Dirk.

LeBron would have been an idiot not to bolt with the way that team had been run into the ground ever since losing Boozer. It's true Nowitzki took a relatively weak supporting cast to a title, but it's not like his cast was complete shit like LeBron's were. You can't even compare Tyson Chandler, Jason Terry, and Jason Kidd to Ilgauskas (after tons of surgeries), Boobie Gibson, and Sasha Pavlovic. James played for a horrible owner and organisation, while Cuban has done a lot of great things for a Mavericks franchise that basically was the Cavs when he got there. Those 2006-2010 Cavs teams were the definition of one man carrying everyone on his back, and I'm still blown away he took one of them to the Finals with Big Z as his #2 and another to 66 wins with scrub Mo Williams as his #2.

Yes he did,but when he chose Miami over Cleveland,it was the easy way..He didn't know Wade would become a TOSB at 31.

How come he doesn't go back to der Deutchland and get that knee regeneration thing that Kobe and Bynum got? With mixed results to say the least...

Let's not act like LeBron took the easy way out. He made Cleveland relevant by himself, and never had a decent sidekick. He could have stayed, but that organization is complete shit and did nothing to help him. They didn't want to give up JJ Hickson to get Amare. Went to the fimals with a shit roster. Led them to multiple 60 win seasons. Made Boobie Gibson look like an NBA player. The easy way would have been to trash his teammates and demand a trade like Kobe, Dwight, Carmelo did. He was not under contract and no longer had any obligation to Cleveland.

Truth. He had already re-signed once with Cleveland to give them a chance to build a winner around him, and Ferry failed miserably with trades for washed up guys like Ben Wallace, Shaq and Jamison, passing on Amare, throwing money at nobodies like Anthony Parker and Jamario Moon, etc. It all started when that blind bastard Gund thought he could sucker Boozer into signing a long-term deal at the MLE; CROFL Boozer turning it back on him and getting huge money from Utah instead.

Also, the fact that they could have had Valaciunas + Thomas Robinson to play with Kyrie Irving instead of Tristan Thompson + Dion Waiters shows that nothing has changed in Cleveland. :lol

Winning 60 games in the East isn't nearly as big of a deal as winning 50+ for 11 straight seasons all the way to the championship.

In 06 and 07 yeah, but not after the East became decent again with the resurgence of Boston and the emergence of Chicago and briefly Orlando.

Yeah, which makes it what, 3-4 teams in the East that are perennial 50+ winners? Guess what, All 8 West playoff teams have to win 48-50 at least.
Don't forget Dirk has done it for 14 seasons now, LeBron 7.

lebron did choose an easy way to winning championships by joining his nigga wade in miami, knowing that he'd have never rang the way he did this year had he committed his future to a shitty franchise like the cavs, even though the cavs could've paid him bigger $ that we do. most other players would rather choose a bigger paycheck over an "easy" way to winning championships (deron williams for example)

I'm not trying to denigrate Dirk because he's a first ballot Hall of Famer, but James' supporting cast was complete shit for all of his Cleveland career save the rookie year he had Boozer.

Let's compare '09 Cavs with '07 Mavs
Dirk-LeBron
Devin Harris< Mo Williams
Jason Terry > Delonte West
Erick Dampier < Zydrunas Ilgauskas
Diop < Ben Wallace
Josh > Varejao
AVERY FCKING JOHNSON - Mike Brown
So they are comparable.

Terry is way better than Mo Williams. Hell, 07 Stackhouse was barely a step down from Mo Williams. Ben Wallace was finished, so him vs Diop is a wash.

I don't think Dirk can take that Midol. I say that because the box might be empty since the Lakers used a lot of it after the Mavs anal raped them in the 2nd round in 2011.
Son, how will Kaman stop Dwight? Zone defense?
Serious question.

there ain't much concern about guarding him at defensive end since he's only the #3 or 4 offensive option on the lakers team, and most of his scores will come from alley-oops and 2nd chances imho. the only scenario that im gonna worry about is if kobe gives up his ego and starts to play as a team player, but you know it ain't gonna happen ever

Might as fuckin well try to get a top 3 pick IMHO. Dirk is going to retire at the end of his contract and we have some nice young pieces that will hopefully play well this season in Mayo and Collison. Maybe get a nice lottery prospect in this years draft that will one day replace dirk when he hangs it up :( :cry
Stern would probably fuck us in the lottery though.
Latarian Milton
10-20-2012, 10:27 AM
12' draft is stacked which means the draft pool will be rather weak next year. mavs are a lottery team w/o dirk and there won't be anything available for them to expect other than a high lottery pick if dirk misses the majority of the season. mavs have a good collection of young nigs at hand which gives them a foundation to build for the future, but they will be seeking a replacement for dirk as the leader of this team when the german allah hangs it up imho
