You think Timmy or TP even play in the 2nd half at this point? At 17 and 18 minutes respectively

Some random thoughts:
- Pop made some very weird moves with his bigmen rotation. He paired Blair with Powell and Duncan with Splitter. it looks like he is experiencing some new pairs.
- Spurs were out-hustled by Nuggets after a great start. Nuggets took the game more seriously.
- De Colo did very little and missed some open shots.
- Curry should be the frontrunner for the 15th spot. Powell came back to earth in this game and was quite invisible. Brown helped his stock too but I still give the edge to Curry.
- Bonner not playing is fishy. The most logical explanations would be that he is injured or has a personal issue but it could be something else... :stirpot:

spurs or players should attempt to run some plays for curry down low when he gets good positioning....when they dont, he looks lost out on the court, just like any new player on the team still finding their way into the system...but he looked good tonight as the game went on and him gettin plenty of touches down low...

what do you think the chances of going with 14 are bruno?

Spurs don't have a reason to go with only 14 players. They are enough below the tax to carry 15 players. Saying that, if they like nobody among the invites, they will start the season with 14 players. At the end, it will, of course, depend on what the invites shows in the remaining preseason games.

RodNIc91
10-12-2012, 10:23 PM
^ I know im going a bit far here but the only other reasonable way I see us getting another quality big is through the a buyout (I dont think they are even considering trading jack) My point is, do you think by then a legitimate contributor would be available (someone much more capable than the invitees) . If no, then I believe they would br better off by keeping Curry.

Players got bought out in late February. It's in a long time so it's going to be difficult to know who will be available and if Spurs will need another big.

If Curry did well in training camp, keeping him is the obvious move to do. His contract will still be non-guaranteed. In early January, just before his contract become guaranteed, it will be time for Spurs to decide or not whether they should keep him for the whole season.

I dream come true if that "something else" would happen.
Pop is resting him for the regular season, and playoff run.

Yep, that's a lot of wishful thinking. In all likelihood, it's an injury or a family issue. In both of these cases, I hope it's nothing serious.

if they dont sign curry, then they might as well give up this season

curry is a fkn huge upgrade over splitter, blair, bonner....

a motivated curry with a winning culture around him would turn around his career....

I saw Bonner in the 10/11 practice vid during Parker interview, tried looking for him during the gameday vids, didn't see him, but camera wasn't always at best angle.

Denver was assessed delay of game warning before tip for violating new rule to cut down on excessive rituals. (IE, LeBron's chalk toss)

Team now have 90 seconds after lights come back up after intros to assemble for tip off.

Curry is intriguing but I still have my mind set on Brown. He can guard multiple positions, can finish at the basket with dunks on fast breaks, cuts, etc. Again there are going to be nights where SJAX or Kawhi get into foul trouble.

why do you want another wing player who is a jack of all trades, but master of none?

what we need is a legit big, and for once we have a legit big fall into our hands yet dont sign him....

curry is a meshed splitter/blair with a thug attitude that this team really needs...

every time curry received the ball down low and started to goto work, the team defense collapse on him and openning up other players...we dont get that from the turd towers, let alone the injury prone softcock of a center in splitter

From an offense stand point, Brown needs more work than Curry; but for defense I think Brown has more potential. Really would be nice if the Spurs could keep 2, and like Bruno said, still too early, someone could have a breakout series of games or the opposite.

Curry made some "Blair" like plays tonight and will he ever have the cardio to run back on defense?

So your saying Curry got his shot blocked about three times and got torched when trying to play defense.

He made a bad pass and lost the ball in the paint. Someone mentioned it but he doesn't set the best of screens, also when the stream went down for me a few members mentioned Curry looked lost on a play.

He did have a block which was nice and a nice step through move on the left baseline for a dunk.

Again Curry and Brown depend on what the Spurs feel is the better option and what their plans are in the bigman rotation. Do Blair and/or Bonner have spots and get significant minutes or is there potential they could get pushed out (trades or just benched).

the minutes he played when he got subbed in, he didnt get any breather or sub out, played like a full quarter

lol at the blair supporters are a fkn joke, dude had a shit game all game, just cause of a few good plays doesnt outweigh the negatives his done all game....which was chucking up stupid shots outside of teh offensive system disrupting t he offensive flow of the team....him and gary fkn neal have a habbit of this where they take shots out of the blue trying to get going, when u hit them ppl will not say anything, buut when u missed them...expect to be called out

lol curry gettin blocked or slow running man, he did alot of stuff in this game that far outweigh blairs contribution tonight and showed what the spurs lacked in real big man when duncan is benched, that is a guy who can create for himself in the post, draw attention to the defense to open up players....curry looked lost out there on defensive duties, but pair him up with someone say diaw, who loves to camp down low to fight for rebounds

The "Blair" like comment was a negative comparison and I'm not a Blair supporter at all. (Part of it, I never got my signed jersey from the twitter contest I won back in September of 2010.)

I will mention that Curry demanded a double/triple team tonight on one play. SJAX during his post game interview said they need to work harder on getting Curry the ball in the paint.

Again I won't be upset if Curry is the one the Spurs keep because he does provide some skill sets we need. If he is motivated to stay in the league, that can be a powerful weapon; something I talked about all of last season. We had SJAX and Diaw motivated to prove their worth to the team/league.

Curry was doubled every time he began to post up. 1 time he was even triple teamed. Lets not have selective remembrance here.

Wow, that sucks. (The unsigned jersey) The thing is, and what tilts the balance towards curry for me is the fact that , although they need someone of the defensive versatility like Brown offers, todays team depends on offense. Granted, Pop wants to improve the defense but I dont see how Brown would impact the overall Team D. He would be a liability at the end of the day because he is a liability in the halfcourt. Curry, on the other hand, offers size , toughness, (hopefully) hunger, and would breath oxygen into the post (something that is starting to lack along Timmys transition.). The offense with a motivated curry would exlpode IMO. Besides, it should be evident that they are already looking for a 3rd center given that tiago may hit the market next offseason.

Having good post offense also helps your defense. It can break up the other team's offensive rhythm and it also allows you to get your defense set.

Blair and Splitter don't have many post moves at all. Splitter is average in the post, hardly has any moves. He keeps trying the same move most of the time.

Anyway, Curry is the one I want. I think Pop should have a sit down with him and see if he is committed to getting in shape, getting his conditioning up and then staying there even if he doesn't get court time.

imho splitter is only behind scola and timmy for old school post moves, in the league.. he has that dribble, footwork and cold blood to come to the rim at will.. he has a lot of other flaws in his game, but that isn't one of them.. However sayin' he's behind only two people ain't sayin' much since post moves are basically a lost art in today's nba..

Raven I'm going to disagree with you, on Splitter and his post moves. Tiago, wants to have post moves. At one point someone started to teach him the basics. While he was overseas his size and athleticism allowed his rudimentary post abilities to work quite well especially in lower level leagues. To some extent he wasn't as effective of a post player at Bilbao, and he hasn't been in the NBA. I think he has a good start but for top tier leagues he needs both more polish and some expansion to his post moves, and a bit more strength in both his legs and his upper body to take a bit of contact without moving out of position and balance. I didn't see this years preseason games but from watching Curry in the past he really had about the same level of post moves as Splitter, but because of his massive size (he's huge now he was more so.) defenders were unable to muscle him as effectively, and he didn't show continued up and under attempts because once he started through to the basket the only things possibly stopping him were whistles, and perhaps a couple of top end centers.

therealtruth
10-16-2012, 07:23 AM
I think Tiago needs more practice and confidence to improve his post moves. The team has to actually look for him in the post. That's why it may be useful playing with TD because he would get defended by the 4. With a height advantage it would be easier to practice his post moves.
