I wonder when the Lakers organization will hire a big name gimmick to coach the Lakers when Brown still fails next season. Larry Brown coaching them would be entertaining

What they are worth is irrelevant, every last one of them is expendable. I will not hesitate to throw all five under the Buss if that is what the good doctor wishes.

Buss return on capital is very high...for example Kobe earns roughly 27 mill this season....but he alone is worth almost 3 times as much as his salary demands...and that's straight from the good Dr's mouth himself...

According to A. Wojnarowski:

“Privately, Jerry Buss has told people that Bryant – who will make a league-high $25 million this season under his current contract terms – is worth perhaps $70 million a year to the Los Angeles Lakers.”

The number may actually be higher...They've run a few numbers but apparently Buss has seen enough as Kobe winds down his career and thus the return on capital investment is still out of this world and the asset value is still very high...let's play around with some numbers...if Kobe averaged 20 million a year in player salary over the past let's say 15 yrs that means he's earned for himself (from his NBA money only) on a pre-tax basis just over $300 million...in comparison he's earned the Laker organization over the same 15 yrs according to my cost model example just over 1 billion dollars...to be exact $1.050 billion dollars and possibly more...Kobe only gets 30% of the 1 billion he's earned Dr. Buss...

Imagine that.... one player alone bringing in over 1 billion dollars to a franchise...I dare anyone of you to produce such kind of math on Lebron's, Tim Duncan's or Chris Paul's behalf...

pretty much, yeah. it's actually a prick of a field to wrap your head around. i prefer the more tangible aspects of chemistry, the things you can see (relatively speaking) and measure, rather than kinetics and entropy and all that shit.

Kobe Math Explained -
Assessing Kobe Bryant's Historic Value as Lakers' Icon
Kobe Bryant has earned $249.2 million in base salary from the Lakers between 1996 to the present. With 30,016 career points in 43,077 career minutes played, this historic achievement deserves a special tip of the cap to Mr. Bryant…including a financial assessment of his value to the Lakers organization.

Ladies and gentlemen, I give you “Kobe Math”:

(1) Kobe Bryant has earned slightly more than $8,300 per point scored in his NBA career.
(2) Kobe Bryant has earned $5,787 per minute played…or an hourly wage of $347,220.
(3) Kobe Bryant has scored roughly 7 points per 10 minutes played over his career.
(4) Kobe Bryant has earned roughly $1.5 million per win share.

Kobe Bryant has generated 165.9 win shares over his career. Thus, he’s earned roughly $1.5 million per win share.

Using Forbes estimated revenue data for the Lakers franchise spanning from the 2001-02 to the 2010-11 seasons (http://www.forbes.com/teams/los-angeles-lakers/), the team earned $1.786 billion in revenue over those 10 seasons. Kobe Bryant earned $173.6 million over that same span, or just below 10% of revenues generated.

(6) Over those 10 years, the Lakers averaged $3.6 million in revenue per win while Kobe averaged $1.5 million in base salary per win share. Thus, the Lakers averaged a $2.1 million return on every Kobe win share. Alternatively, the Lakers paid Kobe 42% of revenues generated per win during that decade.

ohhh and cue the Vanessa jokes....yes she will get her share which should be just under 100 million...it's a small price to pay...once he's rid of her he will continuing earning well past his playing days
