:lol - You'll see. As good as Pau and Bynum were, they were horrible screeners. Now we got D12 - who just so happens to be great at it. And we have Nash to get him the ball? It's on because Kobe won't have to work nearly as hard at the end of quarters and games now.

Case in point, Kobe will get a ton of wide open looks that he didn't even get playing with prime Shaq.

I disagree. Dwight is going realize fairly quickly that the vast majority of his "touches" are going to come from offensive rebounds (and judging by the chuckster shooting % last season, there will be plenty of those :lol), so if you think he's going to sit there setting screens to watch food-stamps do his thing, well, that would be great for the opposing team, but I think you're dreaming. What's going to happen is Pau is going to set the screens per the usual, and dwight is going to have to go work for the putback. Nash is kinda irrelevant when you have that kind of volume shooter playing with you: teams know who's taking the shot. I expect Nash-Dwight to work much better when Kobe Iverson rests, tbh.

All that said, none of that has much to do with who's the best closer, tbh

You reaching dawg. I'm talking end quarter/end game situations. Even with prime Shaq on the squad - Phillip Jackson made Kobe our closer. Why? Because like D12, he was a liability and made us vulnerable to hack-a-Shaq.

if you said Nash instead of Dwight then you'd have a point because Nash is a better passer and shooter (he went 90/50/40 last year with an inferior Suns team). I mean technically we have two closers. With the ball in Nash's hands if either of our bigs are open you know it's a high % dunk coming. Teams have to respect that. And when they do you'll see Kobe going back door for an easy deuce - vice a contested 35-footer as we've been accustomed to seeing him be forced to shoot. Not any more. :toast

Dirk or Durant.

FkLA
10-13-2012, 10:48 AM
Closing doesnt always have to be done by scoring. Because of this, and their willingness to make the correct play at all times, right now Id probably say its between Manu and the King tbh.

Leetonidas
10-13-2012, 10:52 AM
It's LeBron you fags, quit sucking Kobe off. And lol CP3 is nowhere near this discussion. BR has proved many times that he disappears in the 4th when he needs to be aggressive

DMC
10-13-2012, 11:33 AM
If you mean who takes the final shot, that's going to be Durant just because of his shooting ability and his length. If you mean who you want with the ball in the final seconds, I'd take Lebron and a few others, but Manu is about as solid as they come. He finds ways to score and he can hit the FT (so can Durant though).

Needing a 3pt shot- Durant or Bryant
Tie game or down by 1- Dirk from the midpost

tbh CP3 was a good closer in LA but overall his career in NOLA as far as being the 4th quarter man was underwhelming, something BR would constantly complain about

btw posting some examples of him doing clutch things doesn't necessarily mean anything. I'm sure if i looked hard enough i could find a couple of clutch shots from Bonner

Nothing new here Kobe Bryant supposed clutchness was exposed long ago: http://espn.go.com/blog/truehoop/post/_/id/24200/the-truth-about-kobe-bryant-in-crunch-time

If you're asking me to pick one guy to make a shot with the game on the line, there's nothing complex about peeking at the record to see how well he has done that job in the past. Every number in that chart is a real moment of NBA basketball, with ten players on the court, and Bryant in a Lakers uniform, rising, firing, and -- most of the time -- missing. These things really happened, and as much as you might want to ignore opinion, or theory, there's no real reason to ignore 79 misses, broken plays, a shocking lack of passing, a coaching staff eager for more team play, and an elite team that gets below-par results with the game on the line.

As long as your mind is open to all that, it has to be closed to the idea that Kobe Bryant is the king of crunch time.
