View Full Version : Clippers Best bench in the NBA?

Just watching the game against Miami...

Bledsoe
Jamal Crawford
Matt Barnes
Grant Hill
Odom

They went from Mo Williams-Nick Young-Bobby Simmons-KMart-Reggie Evans to this... I think it's much improved. Bledsoe is a good defender, Grant Hill gives them much needed basketball IQ and Odom gives them legit size (btw, he looks fat, but he's still very mobile).

People shouldn't sleep on this team, IMO. On paper they're much improved from last season, and barring injuries, their starters can play with anybody too.

Odom had a couple of nice lobs to DeAndre Jordan, tbh.

Also they're arguably top 3 bench-wise, with Denver and SA. :downspin:

Clips bench is stacked in terms of offensive firepower.

That's what I've been saying all offseason, tbh.... the biggest problem with last year's team is that it was constructed on the fly due to the lockout, and there were WAY too many high-usage guards... getting rid of Mo, Foye, and Gomes is awesome enough without even considering who they replaced those guys with.....

Bledsoe is the truth, I could see him starting at the 2 soon... he's come a long way from his rookie year when he was mostly out-of-control....

Wow... didn't realise their bench had got so good. Good offense plus Barnes is an above average defender at least.

Jordan looks improved, albeit in preseason..he added some post awareness and he's actually making smart rotations on defense..

As I said before, the Clippers are on the 2nd tier with the Spurs, both a small step behind the Lakers and Thunder..

As for bench, I would have the Clippers at 5th or 6th along with Boston..

I'd rank Dallas, Denver, New York and San Antonio ahead of them..

Clipper Nation
10-14-2012, 01:43 AM
Actually, the Clippers have tended to be a matchup nightmare for ChokeKC, so I wouldn't say we're a step behind them, tbh.....

Malik Hairston

Perhaps they aren't behind them from a head to head perspective, but overall, they are still behind them..

Clippers biggest flaw is that their best player is a PG, especially a PG that suffers from stretches of fatal unselfishness..

Best benches:

1. Nuggs
2. Wolves
3. Spurs
4. Mavs
5. Clipps

Tbh, when CP3 is having an off night, it's better for him to be unselfish and look to distribute than to just chuck up a bunch of bricks like Melo or Food Stamps..... of course, when he's feeling his shot, then he should be the #1, #2, and #3 options, tbh...

Raven

not an impressive bench tbh.. I like Bledsoe a lot, and Crawford is still decent, but the others are mostly finished players.

The Clippers are 2 steps behind OKC. It doesn't matter if they match up well, you don't play one team 82 times.

KL2
10-14-2012, 12:31 PM
That looks like a good bench but not the best imo, Odom looks done as an nba player who knows if coming back to LA can revive his career, Barnes is mad overrated and always has been one of the most overrated bench players in the NBA, Crawford while averaging around 15 ppg shot just 38% last year which is terrible.

Bledsoe is a good player and so is Hill although he's really really old.

I still wouldn't rate them higher than the spurs bench

Green/Manu/ De Colo
Splitter/Blair/Curry?
Jackson
Mills/Joseph/Neal

spurs have the deepest bench of all NBA teams imho. guys like s-jax and blair would've easily made starting spots elsewhere. mavs seem to have a good bench to with the likes of brand, jones, roddy, west but the lack of strength in their starting 5 will surely count against their odd. they got a better team than last year's but that's still not enough to get them past lakers, spurs, OKC and the rising powers like clippers and nuggets.

the 7'6 shit was never really that good w/ or w/o the injuries, but that was like the last thing they were concerned about when they were using him basically as a cash cow rather than anything else.

having a handful of too tired shitbags doesn't add much death to your bench imho. hill still decent but isn't he like 40yr old already? although crawfords scores some points off the bench, he kills the ball moving when he's on court which brings more negative rather than positive to his team imho

At the risk of sounding like a Homer, in regards to a deep bench, the Spurs have that market cornered and its not even close. If your a stats guy, its obvious.... if your a purist, its obvious..... No bench can match what the Spurs have.

Im not saying that equates to a championship, but as far as benches go, The Spurs have at LEAST 4 bench players that could be starters on any given team. I'd even go so far as to say the Spurs bench could be at least a competitive NBA starting team on their own. What other teams bench can you say that for?

rayjayjohnson
10-16-2012, 03:42 AM
You're a homer, and it is close.

rayjayjohnson
10-16-2012, 03:42 AM
Which four?

phyzik
10-16-2012, 03:50 AM
Manu
Jackson
Green
Splitter
Neal

That lineup dominated the last half of the season last year.... and thats excluding Kawhi Leanard, Boris Diaw, Dejuan Blair and Patty Mills.

Id be impressed if there was another team even remotely close in bench stats as the Spurs last year. The Spurs were playing the 2nd team almost as much as the starters, and many of those minutes where against the other teams starters.... and it was them that kept the Spurs in the win colum.

pull up the stats, I dare you.

That lineup was outscoring most of the starter teams in the NBA for the latter half of the season. It was a regular thing to see Spurs bench outscore the other teams bench by like 50+ points every game.

I notice you mosty ripped on the guys I mentioned after the main 2nd team lineup as well. Why dodge Manu, Jackson, Green and Neal? Oh yeah, the painfull memories of them ripping other teams a new asshole.

Again, pull up the stats against any other teams bench...... I DARE you.

rayjayjohnson
10-16-2012, 04:09 AM
a) it was because your starters, except for TP, sucked nuts.
b) blair doesn't count, he started 62 games last year
c) patty mills may have led the Olympics in scoring, but he did it on something like 30% shooting
d) splitter averaging just over 5 boards. and he's supposed to be a starting calibre big
e) stephen jackson cares more about his mixtape than he does ball
f) blair's official stats have him weighing 265 lbs. Even officially he's a fatass
g) danny who?

manu aside, kawhi lenard is your only upper-tier bench player. you've got some serviceable role guys, and you stack up better than a few other teams, but don't go trying to say it's not close when the clippers, nuggs, mavs, wolves and thunder are all staaaaaaacked as fuck compared to the San Antonio Nursing Homes.

I'm putting my bid in for the Lakers to have at least a middle of the pack bench this year. At all times, we'll have at least 1 or 2 of our big 4 on the floor making life easier for players like Jamison, Meeks, Hill, Sacre and a guy I hope makes the team: CDR. This dude was money in college playing with D-Rose at Memphis. He's bounced around the league and overseas, but he's like instant offense.

Take a look at him going off (30 pts) on the Heat (an elite defensive team):

XQHlJAayi4U&sns=em

The Lakers finally have a PG. If CDR makes the team, Kobe will finally have a solid backup. Him and Meeks should be solid for us tbh. This (potentially) is huge.
