I'm waiting to see some semblance of 2011-2012 level Spurs basketball. I've yet to see it, to be honest.

That last "almost play" where Splitter received the ball mid-court, drew weakside help, and started to pass to Green in the corner is the closest I've seen to a clean play.

Overall though there's very little fluidity to our offense, but I suppose that's to be expected in the preseason.

I don't mind missed shots as long as they are clean looks off good ball movement, but unfortunately we're not executing our offense properly.

A handful of shots we've made (couple of 3s and perimeter jumpers) have been highly contested shots off of no real penetration/execution.

I didn't even care about the jumpers going in, he at least took them when he was open; wasn't timid. His feet weren't stuck in molasses. Anything on offense you get from Brown should be a bonus as long as his defense is good; but he was subpar in that department as well.

Might not mean anything but could Brown somehow showcasing his skill sets in practice but "hiding" them in games?

Funny you should bring this up though, because it's crossed my mind recently. Once this team inevitably shows that they're incapable of marked improvement defensively and of playing with increased toughness and after the front office tries and fails to acquire Smith, I think they'll turn their attention to Varejao.

I still wouldn't do it at the moment, because I want to see if Varejao can actually stay healthy for an extended period (I realize Splitter isn't known for his durability either, but he also hasn't had season ending injuries relatively early in consecutive seasons) and if Splitter takes another step forward, but closer to the deadline, I'd give strong consideration to this.

Brent Barry, I really feel bad about. He got a raw deal with Pop. He got benched time and time again for defensive mistakes and now Pop has guys like Gary Neal running around that can't fucking guard a lamp post and he doesn't get on them about it like he did with guys like Brent. Brent Barry is such a better overall player then Gary Neal, yet he was totally hammered by Pop for nearly every defensive mistake he made.

I like Gary's toughness on offense and that he is willing to take the big shots, but he's gotta play defense. He can't play such piss poor defense and expect to get any court time with those horrendous efforts out there.

Something is going on with Brown. He has looked awful in most of the preseason games, but then out of nowhere Pop mentioned him yesterday along with Eddy Curry as the two guys that can make the team.

Do you think he had an injury, or that he is holding back? Are the Spurs telling him to hold back so another team doesn't pick him up? Do you think they are trying to clear up a roster spot for him and Curry? From what Pop said yesterday about Brown, it sounded like Brown has impressed him, especially with Pop saying sometimes it takes a while for the light to go on for some players. It sounds like Pop is impressed with him, or was he just trying to boost him up so another team can pick him up?
