Or maybe the Spurs will win when Duncan distracts Davis by flaunting his 4 rings, 3 Finals MVP trophies, and 2 MVP trophies :lol

The Pelicans will be on of those scrappy teams that tries really hard but isn't that good. Robin Lopez and Anthony Davis while an awkward pairing on offense, seem to be a damn talented defensive pairing so far. If Gordon can stay healthy, they will be scrappy, but I anticipate them being a very below average team naturally due to talent, injuries and age.

I am not high on Rivers but we will have to see how he progresses.

Tbh, I wouldn't be surprised if they stay the exact same as last year but with Unibrow in place of Okafor/Kaman... they'll lose a lot of close games.

Pelicans78
10-24-2012, 08:10 PM
Okafor missed most of last year and Kaman was/is terrible. Losing Kaman is addition by subtraction. Mavs fans will learn the hard way.

Gordon needs to stay healthy for this team to compete. Ryan Anderson needs him alot since no one else can create shots.

I hate Austin Rivers and hate the pick even more. He was really overrated. He's a shitty shooter and shoots whenever he can. He doesn't defend, doesn't pass well. But the team wanted a PG long-term I guess and he felt he was the best candidate at that spot even though better prospects were available.

Davis should be hands down the rookie of the year. If he doesn't win, it will be a disappointment. Most of the other rookies out there have flaws. He has the least flaws and most upside.

Team needs more shooters and a SF. Hopefully Darius Miller will step up and took over the SF job from Aminu who's a really good defender/rebounder, but is a shitty offensive player.

New Orleans Hornets guard Eric Gordon says 'no guarantees' he'll play Wednesday night

http://media.nola.com/hornets_impact/photo/11782488-mmmain.jpg

on October 30, 2012 at 12:45 PM, updated October 30, 2012 at 1:10 PM

After three days of the most strenuous practices he has experienced in the days leading up to the New Orleans Hornets (http://www.nola.com/hornets/) regular-season opener Wednesday night against the San Antonio Spurs, shooting guard Eric Gordon (http://topics.nola.com/tag/eric-gordon/index.html) says "there are no guarantees" his sore right knee will allow him to play.
"I'm just trying to do the best I can every day," Gordon said following Tuesday's practice at the Alario Center. "It has been feeling better throughout the process of a few weeks. It's just really tough right now to really say right now that I'm guaranteed to play."
Gordon says he is still not pain-free, although he just began full contact work on Sunday, after doing mostly walk-through work to that point.
His right knee was cleaned out by arthroscopic surgery on Feb. 14 last season, limiting him to only nine games a year ago. On the team's media day Oct. 1, the Hornets announced Gordon's training camp preparation would be limited.
He said it was hard to say when a determination would be made whether he could play against the Spurs.
"It feels good; it takes me a long time to warm up but I'm here two hours before practice," Gordon said, "trying to get it warm and get it ready. It's tough. I feel pain when I play and of course it looks good to the coaches and everybody here that the past few days I've been playing well and looking well. But it's hard to deal with, especially over an 82-game season.
"It's always going to be an overall (decision). You never want to leave the organization out of what's going on. I tell them how I feel every day. That's just going to be the process, and then we'll develop a process within that."
Gordon insisted he'd be able to play with pain, if necessary, though he expects some minute restrictions early on.
"It's just seeing how much I can handle. This is the start of the season. And it's going to be a long one," he said. "Probably when I get back playing, definitely there's going to be limited minutes whenever I get back. But it's all about me just getting better and rehabbing. As far as limitations, that will be something between me and the coach and definitely how I feel."
Hornets Coach Monty Williams (http://topics.nola.com/tag/monty-williams/index.html) said he'd seen nothing over the last few days from Gordon's on-court activity that would lead him to believe Gordon would not be ready to play against the Spurs, though Williams indicated if Gordon were ready, he'd likely start.
"Eric, if he's ready to play and he feels strong, will probably command that position," Williams said. "But we've got to wait. He's been practicing two, three days. We'll see how his knee feels (Wednesday). That's something, as usual, we'll find out in the morning.
"I certainly won't play him his full tilt. Eric is the kind of guy you'd like to play 35 to 38 minutes. That won't happen. He's not in that kind of shape. And the last thing you want to do is have a guy who's coming off a surgery go out there and play heavy minutes and hurt himself because of fatigue or something like that."
Rookie Austin Rivers, who suffered two right ankle sprains in the course of five days last week, is physically ready to play against San Antonio, Williams said.
Rivers started ever all seven exhibition games in which he appeared this month.
"Austin is ready to go," Williams said.

This guy is a joke. He can't deal with the pain. He doesn't have anything really wrong other than soreness and inflammation from the surgery months back. Nothing else is wrong. He just can't play through some mild pain. Weak ass bitch.

New Orleans Hornets guard Eric Gordon out indefinitely with recurring knee problems

New Orleans Hornets shooting guard Eric Gordon will be out indefinitely, Coach Monty Williams said Wednesday morning, though neither Williams nor Gordon could shed any light on the severity of the right knee problem that kept the team's max money player sidelined through the entirety of training camp.
Gordon was instructed by a member of the Hornets' media relations staff not to speak with reporters and was escorted to the locker room after shoot around by the team's security chief.
"He's going to be out," Williams said. "The way I understand it, he's going to be out indefinitely until we get some more clarity on what's going on so I don't have to answer these questions every day and give you guys the update. We'll just go from there."
Rookie Austin Rivers will start Wednesday night against the San Antonio Spurs at the two-guard spot.
Gordon began full-scale contact workouts with the Hornets on Sunday, after mostly walk-through participation up to that point.
On Tuesday, he said "there are no guarantees" he'd play against the Spurs and he was still experiencing pain in the right knee, which was cleaned out arthroscopically on Feb. 14 last season. Gordon played in only nine games in last year's lockout-shortened season.
To Gordon's expressed chagrin, the Hornets matched a four-year, $58 million max-money offer Gordon, then a restricted free agent, received this summer from the Phoenix Suns and have expressed a desire to make him the foundation of the team's rebuilding effort.
Williams was uncertain what Gordon's current symptoms were, whether there was swelling in addition to the pain Gordon said he was having on Tuesday.
"He probably does feel pain; that would be the only reason why a guy can't play," Williams said. "For me to try to read an MRI . . . .I'll find out more as we go forward. I try to not get into all that because that would just make me upset."
Williams said on Monday he would check with team physician Dr. Scott Montgomery to ascertain if playing Gordon would cause additional damage.
"I've checked with Doc," Williams said, "but for him to explain to me what's going on with his body and then have Eric feel a certain way doesn't matter. You know what I'm saying? If Doc says one thing and the guy is feeling another, then you have to . . . what am I supposed to say?
"I'm sure it's got to be medical. A guy just can't not play. It's got to be medical. At this point of the year, everybody is excited to play. I'm sure it's medical."
Williams said his loss hurts.
"It's more than a blow," Williams said. "It is what it is. At the same time, you guys have been with me here through my coaching tenure and it's always been like this. I'm well-prepared for these kinds of experiences. It's one of those situations that, talking about it and complaining about it isn't going to help it. It's an unfortunate situation. I'll give you guys information as I get it."
Williams said he was unsure what the next course of action was regarding further rehabilitation of the injury.
"I'm not going to do this every game," Williams said. "Like I told you: he's not playing. He's out indefinitely. I'm not going to go down the script of like, 'OK, this is what we're going to do.' It doesn't matter. For me, he's not playing. And it's just one of those situations that that's all we have. And we have to move forward from there."

not a bad performance at all considering coming off of last season. I would much rather Gordon stay "injured" though and stay as far away from these guys as possible. they seem to have pretty good team chemistry and the last thing we need is that asshole coming in and fucking it up.

Yeah he was great tonight. I guess it's hard to get minutes over Anderson (who struggled tonight), Davis, and Lopez. Smith brings great injury off the bench and can start occasionally.

Vasquez set the tone offensively with his play-making and Aminu brought energy especially on defense.

Davis did better than I expected.

Rivers was as bad as expected.

I thought Monty made a mistake leaving out Lopez during the final stretch. Duncan dominated when Davis and Anderson on the floor together. Monty brought in Lopez too late, especially with Anderson not shooting well tonight.

Son, except for Roger Mason who has no place in an NBA team, your team looks good enough to fight for that 8th seed, IMO

He does play hard, but he doesnt do anything really well. Soft build, poor defender, can't shoot, not athletic enough to finish at the paint. He's a decent handler and passer, but thats it. We can't survive with him at SG. They drafted him to be a PG for a reason.

Very scrappy, try hard performance from a team with very little talent sans Gordon. They fight hard but will lose a lot of games still because they can't do a whole lot offensively. I didn't like they went away from their best defensive line up (Uni and Lopez) in favor of the 3 point chucker.

I just got home from the game and haven't read all of the posts but let me just say this... The Hornets lost tonight because they were too big of pussies to man the fuck up in crunch time and win. Save all of your fucking "young rebuilding team" cliches and shove them up your fucking ass. It's all excuses, and the most weak-minded mentality that I've ever heard. You have a 2 point lead and possession of the ball with 2 minutes left in the game. Grow a fucking sack, choose to be winners, and close the game out. Losing is a mentality, and until you choose NOT to be losers, the result will be the same. Fucking pathetic, and the fact that I had to listen to hundreds of Hornets fans take solace in the fact that "oh, we lost, but we played really well" is even more pathetic. If you're talented enough to be leading a 48 minute basketball game with 2 minutes left, then you're talented enough to win it. Stop wasting my fucking time and money. (lol meltdown).

I experienced something you will never experience. I watched the team I have followed since I was 8 years old win a national championship. I was a fan back in 1987 when we lost to LA. I was a fan back when the wheels fell off the franchise back in 1992. I was a fan and had to endure losing to Miami back in 2006. I endured McWilliams, Nelson and Johnson having blowout losses to the Timberwolves.

Fact is it was all worth it see us win the MNC. You can say what you want, but Rick is a better coach than anything you have ever had in New Orleans and if he were at New Orleans win or lose he would be a legend just like he is at Dallas. When your city wins something, anything then you can judge Rick but until then you don't know what you are talking about.

He needs to be replaced, there is no doubt about it, but he goes out with dignity and respect he has earned.

Spurs missed about 10 wide open 3s. Just be thankful you didn't lose by double digits.

The thing the Spurs are best at, knocking down the 3, they were awful at tonight. I see all these Hornets fans thinking they played well. Sorry you should be worried. Can't have the opposing team taking and missing wide open shots and call it good defense.

Spurs are just easing their way into the season like they do every year.

Other then Davis the Hornets didn't look good in any area. Anything that went right for them was just the Spurs on cruise control and playing sloppy, missing shots.

I've been a Spurs fan long enough to know the first 10 games of the season they are gonna have a handful where they look like they are sleepwalking.
