He held the star players in each series (Anthony, Allen, Marion, Hamilton) to under their season averages.

Then, he would help out on other players going off.

Incredible.

Did anyone else hear the crowd at the Riverwalk chanting MVP when Manu went by...

looks like the name of the thread is "playoffs MVP" not "finals MVP".
So this would seem like a worthy discussion.
Yes, Timmy was/is/deserves Finals MVP.

BUT: who on the team (besides tim) do you feel brought the most, helped the most, performed the best thru out teh playoffs.
That is the question which we are faced with today.
If Bowen had been 50% against Allen, would we have advanced? etc, etc, ect.

discuss.

For the whole playoffs, the MVP award remains the same.

Tim, followed by Manu and then your choice of Horry, Bowen or Parker.

It could be no other way.

But the MVP is for the Finals...not the playoffs...in that respect....as of game 1 and 2...Manu was clearly the MVP of the Finals...and everyone knew it...games 3 and 4 are out the door cause no one did jack...game 5 Horry was the MVP...game 6 we lost and Timmy sucked ass at the freethrow line...and game 7 Timmy took over the fourth quarter...so at least...I think Manu should have been a co-MVP for the Finals...

I don't understand. How come so many people on this forum are quick to say that Manu deserved CO-MVP with Duncan.........when Bruce Bowen did just as much, if not more than Manu?

Bruce also hit a big time 3 pt shot that got us the lead, before Manu hit his. Bruce scored 15 some points in Game 2, which was also Manu's big game, and hit something like 4-5 from 3 pt land. And like Manu, Bowen did so many intangible things that helped this team succeed.

Yet, NO ONE, who has mentioned that Manu should be Co-Mvp even mentioned Bruce Bowen.

Yes...he was the Finals MVP but Brother Felix was referring to the entire playoffs. He has a legit argument for Bowen.

That is up for debate.

For me, Playoff or Finals... MVPs are:
1. Tim Duncan (close, but difficult not to agree)
2. Manu Ginobili (come on... the type of plays like in the final moments of game 7, when he choses to dribble back instead of dunk it and make the crowd roar is the kind of play that shows his class)
3. Bruce Bowen (another team player, unbelievable defender.... one of the keys)
And I'd add a number 4 in Robert Horry just for his performance in clutch moments (who knew? :)).

The ONLY way I would accept TIM as MVP for 2005-2006 year (over MANU of course :D) is ...

Take Duncan Off Spurs We fight Denver/TWolves/Lakers for 8th seed.

People forget what MVP means.

MVP is Most VALUABLE Player.

It doesn't mean the guy that hit the big 3, or made a good stop on a guy in the 4th game of some series to save the day.

MVP is the guy who day in and day out does the most to ensure that you progress to the next day.

MVP is the guy who makes YOUR gameplan work. MVP is the guy who gives the other people's Defense Fits. MVP is the guy who gives the other team's offense fits.

The MVP makes other people on his team get open looks.

Manu and Tim both had a case for it in the finals, as well as the whole series.

Without Manu we lose in the first or second round.

Without Tim we may not make it to the playoffs.

Without Bruce who knows...

The Spurs are a well Oiled machine.

Tim is the engine and Manu is the Nitro.

The engine can run without Nitro, (not really the other way around look what Detroit did to him when Timmy wasn't himself in games 3 and 4) but you put them together boom, watch out.

Tim3p is the MVP.

Tim Duncan Playoff averages:

23.6 ppg 12.4 rpg 2.7 apg 2.3 bpg

Manu Ginobili Playoff averages:

20.8 ppg 5.8 rpg 4.2 apg 1.2 spg

Enough said.

BTW, the fact that we can even be arguing about this speaks volumes the Spurs

I really think this MVP award is BS and I'm wondering...do other countries in other sports do MVP awards or is it just an American thing?
