In light of the recent traffic-related developments involving posters, I thought I'd post my little bit of morning excitement:

This morning, I was driving up I35 north of San Marcos. They are (slowly) scarifying the pavement and resurfacing the road with a hotmix overlay. I saw the change in finished pavent to scarified surface, and figured that they tapered the pavement down to the elevation of the old surface. Wrong.

I hit the bump so hard (at 70 mph, the posted speed limit) that it snapped the cable that held my spare tire. A 265/75R16 tire at 80 psi on a steel rim then bounced up & flew 50 feet in the air, landed in between a little red car and a white semi w/ a van trailer. They swerved to avoid it, it bounced up and landed on top of the semi trailer, bounced up and either hit the overpass, went completely over the overpass, or both, and landed in the ditch (luckily) on the other side of the bridge.

Luckily, no one was hurt or damaged their vehicle, other than my spare tire holder. My spare was still aired up and undamaged.

There is a curse on posters of Spurstalk.:lol

Courtney wants to buy a truck, before she had a Kia. I was like damn you don't want to do that, with todays gas prices buying a truck is insanity. But if she wants it then that's fine with me. I also told her to buy a jeep to take to the beach and drop the top. But I think she's gonna go with a truck.

They also are death traps in a bad accident. Go with a mid or full-size car, they're enough people who drive trucks that don't have any scratches in the bed as it is already.

My new company truck is a crew cab 2005 Chevrolet 1500 Silverado with the 5.9L V8. It presently has 3100+/- miles and is getting 19-20 MPG with both highway and job site stop and go driving combined.

We have a company van for our runner to make deliveries and this morning we found it stripped down in the parking lot. The taillights were gone, the front blinkers, the rearview mirrors, the gas cap, the cheap ass stereo. . .the thief tried to hotwire it but obviously failed and so he decided to strip off whatever he could get!

I thought it was pretty funny myself, but my managing partner hit the roof when he saw it and was pissed I was taking it so lightly. Its fully insured, and I figured there are worse things to get worked up about.

We can add that to the list I guess.

Oh, and SW, sorry about the toe! OUCH!!

The one that blew last October was a 2001 Ford Escort ZX2 with 60k on it. I changed the oil every 3k.

This one was a 92 Mercury Tracer (read: FORD ESCORT) with 140k miles on it. I'd had it for less than 500 miles but it got an oil change right before I took it.

This one is a bit more understandable, but it had the maintence done on it as well. I know the people I bought it from and they were the only owners.

I sore up and down that I would never own a Ford after my last car, but the offer on this one was too good (to be true) to pass up.

MannyIsGod

The timing chain on this one blew, and I guess the engine is non interference and it really fucked up the valves.

On the first one, it threw a whole fucking rod through the front of the engine. It was the craziest thing I'd ever seen. I had heard of it happening on cars, but you don't know how fucked up it is untill you see your blown up engine right in front of you.

SW: God, Dad....I HATE that car!
Dad: Well, it gets you from point A to point B......
SW: But then I have to get TOWED back to point A! The back wheels have waaaay more milage than the front ones....!

I'm aware of that. But to avoid raising rates we're going completely through the other drivers policy. If you make claims on your insurance, they will raise your rates whether or not you are at fault.

It is really no big deal either way. We're good at getting around on the bus.

Yes, they will, but they're going to drag their heels untill an adjuster determines their driver was at fault. The dude told the cop he was turning, so I don't think theres much of a debate.

I just got off the phone with my mom who was hit from behind this morning over by Westover Hills & Culebra.
