Miami has to go cold. Lebron needs to remember the playoff choker he was in year's prior to him ringing I reckon.

We have to be peaking at the right time. Last year I could have become a millionaire if each wide open missed shot from our players was worth a dollar. Our role players came back down to earth in the finals and stunk it up. James Harden choked like I've never seen a player with that much potential choke.

Chalmers needs to remember he's Chalmers and not the second coming of Isiah Thomas.

When will you people realize Serge Ibaka's jumper is not a fluke? Serge Ibaka is the best 16-20 foot jump shooter on OKC's roster and probably top 3 in the NBA among big men from this range. Serge Ibaka is shooting 47% on the season from 16-23 feet - that's FIVE percentage points higher than Tim Duncan and SIX percentage points higher than Kevin Durant - yes I realize KD's are much more contested, but the fact is Serge Ibaka is a legit top tier perimeter shooting big man and you shouldn't be the least bit surprised if he goes 10-12 on you in a game.

It's not a fluke. Any NBA player should be capable of hitting a wide open 16-20 foot jumper on a consistent basis. And he gets as many wide-open midrange jumpers as anyone, thanks to Durant and Westbrook taking the defensive attention away from him.

It's like the way people were enamored with David West a couple years ago for hitting all those wide open mid-range jumpers that Chris Paul created for him.

more like the spurs need to play some defense, instead of thinking like their fans "we are the spurs, therefore we are entitled to opponents missing wide open mid-range shots"

You're right in that an NBA player should be able to hit wide open jumpers consistently, but nonetheless a frontcourt player that hits outside jumpers at that clip is still pretty impressive. And Ibaka's jumpers have become much more contested than they once were. When a guy starts shooting near 50% from the perimeter, the defense starts contesting more. Where I think Ibaka can really cause additional problems for a defense is if he starts becoming more efficient off the dribble, which he has shown some of lately. In the past it was pull the trigger on the jumper immediately or pass it. He's starting to show some pump fakes, a jab step, and occassionally taking his man off the dribble. His ability to finish off the dribble isn't exactly remarkable, but he's decent enough at it and athletic enough to pull it off some. I think this is the next step in his game - showing he has more offensive capability than just the outside jumper.

He kills them on offense, Chandler at least was a good dive man on pick and rolls. Perkins is beyond useless on that end now

OKC
04-15-2013, 11:44 AM
Perkins catches a lot of hell from fans and I do admit he has his limitations and has games vs certain opponents where it seems as though OKC wouldn't be any worse off if he just sat on the bench, but he also has stretches where he does things no other big in OKC can do - like holding Duncan, Jefferson, and...it was one other pretty good low post scorer, cant recall- but Perk held those 3 guys to a combined 31 points in 3 consecutive games on about 25% FG shooting. That's the stuff people dont stop and consider.

AaronY

Mark my words one they take him out of the rotation they will soar. Much like Miami did when they threw in the towel on Joel Anthony. Asamof if Birdman was playing in Perk's place..

before Chimpbrook went down, I still think Spurs could beat Thunder. tbh, the only thing that makes you guys scary, especially with Harden gone, is the amount of help you get from the refs. i feel confident that in a fairly officiated series, Spurs could roll with you guys. Ref help can be pretty significant though. Remember last year when the refs helped that mediocre Lakers team steal a game from OKC to prevent them from going down 0-3? OKC was the far superior team in that series, but they gave Kobe game winning free throws on incidental contact. Kobe just grazed Harden and was awarded free throws at a critical juncture late in the game.

Or, when the refs helped OKC steal game 1 or game 2 against the Mavericks by awarding game winning free throws to Durant on incidental contact.

I mean going back to OKC, when Harden left OKC's FTA/FGA didn't really decrease much at all. In fact, I think it might've increased. They just spread Harden's 8-10 FTA per game among the remaining players and then some.

Ambiguous, 50/50 scenarios happen constantly in the nba, making it really easy to influence games - intentional or not.

good examples. I had forgotten those specific moments but did watch those games. tbh, the shitty officiating in the NBA becomes a blur for me after awhile, unless it's a watershed moment like 2002 WCF game 6.

i laugh when people act like officials have no overall impact. that's like playing chess and one side abides by the rules while the opponent is allowed to occasionally move pieces in a way they shouldn't. it can have a big impact on strategy. I've watched NBA long enough to see too much shady shit go down.

Check out the Lakers FT stats vs Utah Jazz FT stats for the past month, pretty disgusting stuff. Obviously it's all about the money, what Stern and co. think is best for the league.

Yeah I agree. A lot of people think they're "too cool" to "blame" the refs for affecting the outcome of the game. It's just not fashionable to do so. Others blame the refs but always act as if their team is selectively victimized while opposing teams are given a ref edge. Both types of people are delusional. I like people who just call it like it is.

Like, I have no problem whatsoever admitting that the Donaghy helped the Spurs in '07 against Phoenix. That's just a fact. Lakers were helped in 2002 against the Kings, and again in 2010 against the Celtics in game 7. Miami was helped against Boston early on in their series (game 2 or 3), while Boston was helped against Atlanta (they completely missed a foul before the ball was inbounded, that would've changed the game as Boston won the game by just 3 points). OKC was helped in game 6 against the Spurs. The list goes on.

Yeah I saw that article by that Blazers blogger analyzing FT trends for the Lakers/Jazz during the last 10 games versus the rest of the season. It's not perfect and it's not logically air tight, but it's the best evidence we have and I agree it is pretty telling.

Well no shit shirtlock.

Same reason why Lakers are so heavily dependent on Kobe. Doesn't mean shit in the grand scheme.

Russ is more likely to chuck you out of a game then he is winning it. You'll see a much more fluid, cleaner rhythm with Durant. Fact.

tbh, if we had the ref help OKC had, we would've won the past few years. as it stands, i'm okay with the past few years. Core got older, other pieces haven't stepped up like we needed. Shit happens. The past 10-15 years of Spurs basketball has been a great ride, can't see OKC duplicating it, even with Stern literally and metaphorically taking it up the ass for the Thunder. Hopefully Silver doesn't have as much of a gay connection to the Bennetts as his predecessor.

tbh, if we had the ref help OKC had, we would've won the past few years. as it stands, i'm okay with the past few years.

I sure didn't see that supposed OKC/Stern love connection today.

Fucking pussy ass team. Wish they would win so the Spurs could humiliate these ref-dependent fucks.

What a horrible comparison.

Dwight has potential to be one of the greats, he's just mentally weak and wont allow himself to grow.

Lame thread. Most of these Laker and Heat fans on here haven't even been to the damn state of FL or CA, much less even sat their ass in the arena. Just jersey buyers who sit on their couches and act like they have some stake in the team and get some weird sense of self worth from it. Then they wanna attack other fans for what their team's front office does, as if that's any reflection on an OKC fan. OKC would be much stronger with Harden on the roster. Do we really need 12 pages to come to that conclusion?

We won't play as bad.

Martin needs to be acclimated to the rotation and Brooks needs to play lamb and have better rotations.

Despite all this the Spurs still needed a last second shot from Tony Parker, with Tim Duncan playing out of his mind. And don't even mention Ginobili, he won't play at a higher level anymore, he's beyond the word "old".

Plus, 1st game of the season. Not worried at all

:lol spur fans and thunder haters alike getting happy about an opening game loss

:lol weak minded basketball fans

The number of conclusions being drawn after 1 game is a little stupid. Of course OKC is not as good right now as they were last year. 1 game under our belts with Westbrook playing like a complete idiot. Martin still isn't aclimated to our offense because the only thing he's seen to this point is Westbrook playing like an idiot. The guy had to be standing around thinking to himself..WTF is RW doing? Martin isn't going to make the plays Harden did, but he can score the points. It's up to Brooks to find some combinations that work. I believe with time this will occur. Gotta get some low post scoring though...whether this be Ibaka improving in that area or PJ3. I think PJ3's development could be very important and Ibaka definitely must step it up offensively.

I do think their ceiling is as high this year as it was last, if not a little higher. Of course having a higher ceiling and reaching it are two different things. Having a high ceiling means I just think there's the potential there for them to be better than last year. The reason I think this is due to the fact that I think Martin is equal to Harden offensively in terms of scoring. Notice I didn't say I think he's overall as good as Harden, just that he can replace Harden's points. The other reason is Ibaka, who I think will show very good offensive improvement this year. The other factors are that Maynor is healthy and then there's PJ3. PJ3 could be the wild card. I'm sure someone will come on here and call him a scrub rookie, but this kid has HUGE potential. Very very smooth shoother, incredibly athletic and long.

I believe you're wrong. OKC is a different team without Harden, but they aren't any worse. I truly believe that. People look at Harden's two games in Houston and make individual comparisons to him and Martin. Of course Harden is the superior player overall, but in OKC's system, he's no more effective than Martin will be.

Well, yes, but this isn't a Martin for Harden swap where Martin is expected to go in and do exactly what Harden did. He can't and won't. But he can provide the same scoring output as Harden would have. It's just that the adjustments will have to be made. The dynamic of the team is different now, lineups will change, but with the players they have I believe they are potentially just as good, if not better.

lol thunder

Clipper Nation

In a way I guess what I'm hinting at is that PJ3 could potentially replace the playmaking that Harden offered. I think PJ3 is potentially a tough, tough cover. He's a poor man's KD, if you will.

Scotty isn't worried, he's EXCITED while working on his 4th straight loss at home

Oklahoma City has allowed 106.1 points per game over its last seven after ranking seventh in scoring defense (97.4 ppg) through its first 51 games.

"No one in the locker room, including myself, feels good about it," coach Scott Brooks said. "The exciting thing is we know we can do better. We just have to maximize our potential.
"Defensively we're not getting after it enough. We just have to keep focusing on that end and it will turn back around for us."

I do have to admit getting some personal satisfaction from his participation since I shit all over him multiple times and all he could come back with was "u haz slut wife hahahaha" but no, he was not "quality" unless you mean like the bearded woman is a "quality" addition to a circus.

OKC just needs to reach the WCF against the Spurs. With them holding homecourt against every West team except San Antonio, they have a pretty good shot at making it back.
