The Source of Romney’s Lying

Romney’s lying – most recently revealed in his false claim about General Motors and Chrysler shifting U.S. auto jobs to China – appears connected to something deeper in his personality, psyche or life experience.

One theory is that Romney is consumed by a blind ambition, obsessed with claiming the office of President that was denied his father because he was too honest while his Republican rival, Richard Nixon, was anything but.

Another possibility is that Romney has surrendered whatever ethics he had to the longstanding Republican political strategy of winning at all cost, ironically a playbook inherited from Nixon. [See Robert Parry’s America’s Stolen Narrative (https://salsa.democracyinaction.org/o/1868/t/12126/shop/shop.jsp?storefront_KEY=1037).]

A third possible explanation is tied to Romney’s Mormon religion which was founded in the 19th Century by a notorious conman, Joseph Smith Jr., who as a youth used a “seer stone” to advise people where to hunt for buried treasure. He later expanded on his supposed visions to start his own religion, Mormonism.

Lying for the LordLying for the Lord refers to the practice of lying to protect the image of and belief in the Mormon religion, a practice which Mormonism itself fosters in various ways. From Joseph Smith's denial of having more than one wife, to polygamous Mormon missionaries telling European investigators that reports about polygamy in Utah were lies put out by "anti-Mormons (http://www.mormonwiki.org/Anti-Mormon)" and disgruntled ex-members, to Gordon B. Hinckley's dishonest equivocation on national television (http://www.mormonwiki.org/Gordon_B._Hinckley_interviews) over Mormon doctrine, Mormonism's history seems replete with examples of lying. Common members see such examples as situations where lying is justified. For the Mormon, loyalty and the welfare of the church are more important than the principle of honesty, and plausible denials and deception by omission are warranted by an opportunity to have the Mormon organization seen in the best possible light. This is part of the larger package of things that lead many to describe Mormonism as a cult (http://www.mormonwiki.org/Cult). "Lying for the lord" is part of Mormonism's larger deceptive mainstreaming tactics, and conversion numbers would drastically lower if important Mormon beliefs were fully disclosed to investigators.

Is Romney Unraveling?

4) Truth and lies. Evidence continues to emerge that Romney is one of the most dishonest, duplicitous candidates to ever seek the presidency.

He criticized Obama for telling then-President Dmitri Medvedev of Russia that he would have “more flexibility” to deal with sensitive issues between the two countries after he won re-election. Romney said this was particularly troubling given that Russia “is without question our No. 1 geopolitical foe. (http://livewire.talkingpointsmemo.com/entry/romney-russia-is-number-one-geopolitical-foe)”

However, according to a report on Friday in The New York Times (http://www.nytimes.com/2012/11/02/us/politics/matt-romney-goes-to-russia-for-business.html), Romney’s son Matt recently traveled to Russia and delivered a message to President Vladimir Putin:

“Mr. Romney told a Russian known to be able to deliver messages to Mr. Putin that despite the campaign rhetoric, his father wants good relations if he becomes president, according to a person informed about the conversation.”

It sounds as though he was signaling that Mitt would do exactly what he had castigated Obama for: operate with “more flexibility” after the election.

This is the kind of hypocrisy that just makes you shake your head in disbelief.

According to a Gallup poll released on Wednesday (http://www.gallup.com/poll/158444/americans-give-obama-better-odds-win-election.aspx), Americans expect Obama to be re-elected by 54 percent to 34 percent. Among those believing that Obama will win were most independents and almost a fifth of Republicans.

Romney Robocall Accuses Obama Of Threatening ‘Our Religious Freedom’ (http://thinkprogress.org/politics/2012/11/03/1134661/romney-robocall-accuses-obama-of-threatening-our-religious-freedom/)

Christians who are thinking about voting for Obama should remember what he said about people of faith: “They … cling to guns or religion.” And remember when Obama forced Christian organizations to provide insurance coverage that was contrary to their religious beliefs?

That’s the real Barack Obama. That’s the real threat to our religious freedom. Mitt Romney understands the importance of faith and family. That’s why so many leaders of the Christian community are supporting Romney.

They know we can’t underestimate the threat Barack Obama poses to our faith, our values, our freedom.

Steve King: Obama’s Response To Libya Attack Is ‘Worse Than Watergate’ (http://thinkprogress.org.feedsportal.com/c/34726/f/638927/s/2531aca6/l/0Lthinkprogress0Borg0Celection0C20A120C110C0A30C11 345810Csteve0Eking0Eobamas0Eresponse0Eto0Elibya0Ea ttack0Eis0Eworse0Ethan0Ewatergate0C/story01.htm)
“Benghazi is a far worse situation than Watergate (http://www.spencerdailyreporter.com/story/1910391.html),” Rep. Steve King (R-IA) said during an event earlier this week. “I have more questions than I have answers about that one. Who told the Seals to ‘stand down’? We will hold hearings. We will get answers. This is disgraceful. But if Obama is re-elected, it’s going to take longer to get facts about this than it has to get facts on the Fast and Furious.”

Giuliani: Obama’s ‘Incompetence’ Has Killed Americans, He Should Resign (http://thinkprogress.org/politics/2012/11/03/1134431/giuliani-obamas-incompetence-has-killed-americans-he-should-resign/)GIULIANI: If [Romney] can have the same success for us that he had in running the Olympics, maybe something like what happened in Libya could have been avoided! Maybe if we had a president who was paying attention, we wouldn’t be going through all of this investigation of what’s being covered up about Libya!…

You know of what happened in Libya is the result of at least of incompetence. You think if we had elected John McCain president of the United States, those people wouldn’t have had the full resources of the United States of America there in Benghazi trying to save them!? Well, we’ve got to change to right that wrong.

We’ve got to elect a Commander in Chief who will not leave Americans behind! …

Millions of Americans have paid the price of being unemployed. I believe some Americans who might not have had to have died, may have died because we had incompetence in the White House.

wow, transvestite Julie Annie obviously sucked some brain-destroying crap doing his photo ops on 9/11 and days after.

Another huge GECKO lie

U.S. Solar Jobs Grow By 13 Percent In 2012, Far Outpacing The Broader Economy (http://thinkprogress.org/climate/2012/11/05/1139081/us-solar-jobs-grow-by-13-percent-far-outpacing-the-broader-economy/)http://thinkprogress.org/wp-content/uploads/2012/11/Picture-20-300x225.png

Last year, Mitt Romney tried to claim (http://thinkprogress.org/climate/2012/01/10/401222/romney-lying-about-solar-industry/) that the loan guarantee program supporting Solyndra caused investors to “pull back” from investing in solar. In fact, the last two years have brought record investments and project development in the industry, with U.S. installations growing 116 percent (http://thinkprogress.org/climate/2012/09/10/819121/us-solar-pv-installations-jump-116-percent-over-q2-2011-driven-partly-by-loan-guarantees/) in the second quarter of this year — much of it driven by the loan guarantee program.

As a result of strong federal support, job growth in the industry continues to outpace the broader economy.

http://thinkprogress.org/climate/2012/11/05/1139081/us-solar-jobs-grow-by-13-percent-far-outpacing-the-broader-economy/

Gecko/Ryan want to kill wind/solar incentives, while preseving all tax breaks for carbon and nuclear industries.
