granger should be out and pacers have looked sloppy
should be an easy win unless their recent play motivates them to not suck

expect a double digit win

Spurs have never started with 4 and 0 ever according to McDonald. I don't think we're playing well enough at this point to predict double digits win against a good team like the pacers, we were behind on the scoreboard with one minute left in two of our three wins tbh.

This should be a good game. Hopefully the Spurs come out with a W because the next 4 will be tough on the road at the Clippers, Kings, Blazers (on a second night of a back to back), and at the Lakers...

The Spurs had a chance to go 7-0 to start Timmy's rookie season, but they lost in double overtime to Jordan and the Bulls in like the third or fourth game.

Paul Garcia PS ‏@24writer (https://twitter.com/24writer)
Coach Vogel also former #Spurs (https://twitter.com/search?q=%23Spurs&src=hash) product George Hill will play tongiht even though Hill's listed as day-to-day. #Pacers (https://twitter.com/search?q=%23Pacers&src=hash)

Paul Garcia PS ‏@24writer (https://twitter.com/24writer)
I spoke with Frank Vogel, coach of #Pacers (https://twitter.com/search?q=%23Pacers&src=hash), he said they (IND) or the #Spurs (https://twitter.com/search?q=%23Spurs&src=hash) didn't anticipate Kawhi Leonard to shoot like he is early on.

Would be nice to see Kawhi get a few more looks in the post, like he did vs Jazz. He made a nice pivot move and seemed to be in control (something he definitely has been working on).

I also think the Spurs should work in some post options for Diaw; he has a nice spin move and running a play for him might improve his scoring mentality

It might not end up as one-sided as something like Pippen for Polynice but I don't think history is going to look kindly on Larry Bird for making the trade, both on the level of talent/potential and on the level of salary as Drz mentioned.

One-on-One with Ian Mahinmi

Pacers center Ian Mahinmi, who is in his first season with the Indiana Pacers, spent three seasons with the Spurs and Austin Toros from 2007-10. He appeared in 32 NBA games with San Antonio and averaged 3.8 points. Mahinmi played in 46 NBA D-League games with the Toros averaging 16.8 points, 8.0 rebounds and 1.7 blocks. Mahinmi took some time after shootaround before the Indiana’s matchup against the Spurs on Nov. 5 to speak with spurs.com.

On playing with the Spurs:
“I spent three years here. I think those three years were very important for my career. They gave me a good base and foundation, being able to know the system and surround myself with great players and coaches. I learned a lot. My first year, I spent some time in the D-League in Austin. That was one of the best things that happened to me. Then my second year I got hurt but I was able to be around the coaches and players. They got me through everything. In my last year, my third year, I got to play. In those three years, I would never take them for granted. Those were really the foundations of my NBA career. If I had to do it over again, I would.”

Eh, I've said Larry Bird was overrated last season but the Leonard deal wasn't a bad trade for them. To land your starting point guard for a mid first round draft pick is a deal any team will take. It was a pretty huge risk for the Spurs but it was a safe move for the Pacers with very limited downside.

Chinook
11-05-2012, 08:28 PM
LOL, I guess that's true if we pretend there's no such thing as a salary. :lol

The Pacers could afford to pay Hill; the Spurs couldn't. The Spurs needed a quality wing; the Pacers didn't. Both Hill and Kawhi are more valuable (more worth it) to their current teams than they would be with the teams that traded them. That's how a trade can work out for both teams. If there's asymmetry, you get the Harden/Martin swap instead.

11-05-2012, 08:47 PM
On Pacers getting Hill: It was a good deal for the 15th pick for them. Assuming it was a Spurs going if Leonard is there at 15, the trade is a go, it's fine. There weren't great PG options there, and Hill has been good(His RAPM last year was around +1.8, which is really good. Leonard was way lower(though part of that is due to the methodology). The stats Nerds didn't like it for them, as Hill hadn't been that good, and Leonard was projected as a top 5 pick by a bunch of stats people, and was around the top 5 on a bunch of mocks.

Not to stroke him or anything, but Ian has improved. He's playing a bit smarter, still has his great energy, but it seems more controlled and his rhythm is better.

If this keeps up, how gone is Tiago next year? No way he stays with the Spurs if this is the treatment he gets, right? Can't imagine he's too thrilled.

Tonight it seems that way, but I think they are pretty well balanced. Good athletes, solid depth and balanced bigs (inside out with Hibbert and West). Keep in mind they are missing Granger right now. But they have some guys that can shoot in George, Hill and Granger, who can also get to the rim. Bigs that can shoot. Like their team overall.

Me too. SOlid, balanced, well-constructed team. What they lack is a leader - a dominant guy who will take over on nights like tonight where they can't get it going. George could be that guy one day, but he's not there yet. Hibbert should be that guy but doesn't have the right demeanour for it.
