NEW YORK -- The San Antonio Spurs' victory over the Detroit Pistons in seven games in the NBA Finals drew a championship series record 141,416 fans, and helped the league set a record for total attendance in a season.

The league brought in 22,935,057 fans during the regular season and the playoffs, breaking the record of 21,855,125 set last year. The average attendance figure of 17,454 was also a record, topping the 17,341 mark from 1995-96.

The previous record for NBA Finals attendance also involved the Spurs. San Antonio's victory over New York in the 1999 Finals drew 138,357.

The NBA also set a record for playoff sellouts with 81, topping the 2003 record of 69.

Well, to be fair in '99 we led the league in attendance and played two games of the Finals in the Dome.

In 2005, Detroit led the league in attendance and the series went seven games.

But still, sportswriters nut every time baseball sets an attendance record, but because this is the NBA this will barely see the light of day.
