View Full Version : Lakers: If Phil Comes Back But Wants a Limited Number of Road Games...

Some reports are saying that one of the things being negotiated is whether Jackson would limit the number of road games he'd coach. What do people think about that, if the number were indeed limited? I mean he's 67 and still will be there in practice, and of course show up for all playoff games. But would anyone, Laker fan or otherwise, have an issue with a coach that sometimes skipped the road games?

I guess Phil, though, is worth it to LA. Right?

(By the way, there's no sarcasm or flame here. I really want to know what people think if this were the case.)

It really just shows, how pathetic the lakers are right now.

Welp, if Shaw can be stolen from Indiana then it would make more sense to have him coach the road games against lower tier teams. Shaw is supposed to be Phil's successor and I don't doubt Phil will want some guarantee Lakers won't throw Shaw out on his ass again. It's strange, but really it would be pretty beneficial to have Shaw be the HC on the unimportant games.

League will find a way to fix Shaw back to LA.

What constitute an "unimportant" game?

I think a head coach should be with the team full in.

The Lakers must really be desperate if they agree to these silly conditions.

Road games the Lakers should win without Phil. Like against Pistons, Suns, Bobcats, 76ers, etc.

They should hurry up and notify Stern so he can make it possible. also ask Stern to give them another All Star while he's at it.

Mitch probably needs to know the all-stars for this year before telling Stern which one he wants

This is a good point. And any team that sees they are being disrespected by Phil not showing, will have extra motivation. That said, when opposing lower tier teams see Pop is resting Tim or Tony or Manu, they don't seem to get extra fired up. So maybe it could work against the Pistons and Wizards of the NBA.

According to ST laker fan, regular season itself is unimportant. According to the Lakers, any games in the 2nd round.

sons it really doesn't matter because Phil Jackson is the most overrated coach in the history of professional or even college sports at that.

road games in the regular season maybe, no way would he want to absend any away games in the playoffs imho
