:cry you will be missed :cry

He had a great career and is a lock for the HOF. He is Manu Ginobili, one of the most amazing basketball players I've seen.

I'd like to express my deepest sympathy on your sad loss ElNono, DAF86, Urunobili, manufan20, manu_thebest, manu20, batmanu... and all the members of the CoM. This thread is a tribute to our beloved number 20 so please haters, member of the CoT... refrain to troll this thread and show some respect.

Now let's remember the greatest Manu moments: the clutch plays, the laser passes, his amazing leadership... and more recently the bat, the broken nose mask... too many good memories.

Ruff, I also propose to create a Manu Ginobili Memorial Fantasy Battle asap.

This game left me depressed and embarrassed, all last night but I'm over it now. Thank God.

The title of this thread is real disrespectful though. Manu isn't himself, true; but to call him dead is just bullshit in my eyes. His problems to me seem mental, as though he isn't completely in the game at times. It reminds me of how I used to function when my sleeping pattern was messed up. When I re-sync'd my biological clock, (with the sun) I felt my energy & focus come back. I'm confident he'll bounce back.

Did anyone see Melo snickering at Kahwhi for the effort he put in at the defensive end? What a piece of shit. I thought his attitude would change after moving from Denver to NY but he's still the same and having JR there doesn't help. I've NO respect for him. Kahwhi gonna punk him next meeting, I will circle my calendar.

I think the problem is that Manu's brain has not yet accepted that Manu's body can not do what it used to be able to do. He needs to settle in to a lesser role and reduced ability.

I remember his horrible start in 2010. Cully was sticking a fork in him and sadly I was beginning to think it was true. Manu just looked terrible out there, he couldnt get around anyone or knock down a jumpshot to save his life. Then Tony the Chucker got injured and the rest is history. In short, never doubt Manu Ginobili aka God.

He's won everywhere before going to the NBA. And yes, international play counts, because it's a basketball hall of fame, not just an NBA hall of fame. He has good accolades too: 3 NBA rings (as a key player), one of the highet win%'s for a career, and led the only team to gold medal over Team USA in the Olympics since NBA players started packing the Team USA roster. Not to mention he's always been among the top SGs just about every year.

Among all the NBA players, Tim and Manu are the only two whom I follow on their facebook pages. So you can see that I have the ultimate respect for him.

To me , I don't mind that Manu is over his peak at all. Granted, if he can turn back the clock like Tim, that's perfect. But even with his current form, I don't blame him for that. What I don't like is that being known as a player with super Bball IQ, he hasn't shown that he has the capability to adjust to his way of playing with current body/form.

Just take a look at Kidd from last night. Kidd used to be very creative and fancy, one of the best PGs ever. But at this age, first, he defers much to young guys doing their stuff; second, when he gets his chance, he tries to keep it simple and let the game come to him. By this way, he can still contribute to winning even though he is much older than Manu.

Second, as bad as Manu is playing, I'm more disappointed with Pop's coaching. Just like he stuck to Finley, Bonner, and etc. when everybody else says the otherwise --- or refuse to use Splitter for that matter --- he does not adjust to Manu's bad form at all. In no way am i implicating that Manu is the same as Bonner, or he'll never regain his old form, but in terms of the current form, Pop needs to use every player to the benefit of the team.

Ginobili isn't done, tbh. He was damn good in the Olympics and looked great to start preseason.

And really, he looked worse back when he was coming off of those multiple foot/ankle injuries a few years ago. If you remember correctly, back then he wasn't driving to the hoop and only seemed willing to shoot from the outside. Right now, his drives to the hoop are adequate ... it's his outside shooting and the timing on his passes that are out of whack.

I love Gino more than TP, but also realize his body isn't the most reliable. timvp (no i don't know how to tag shit), what would be a good figure for his next contract coming up? I've heard this number floated around...
Not a lot... If Tim gets $10m/season in his twilight, Manu for $8m/season if he wants to continue for 2 more seasons is reasonable.

but not sure if said source is impartial tbh

timvp
11-16-2012, 09:27 PM
If Ginobili recovers and gets back to playing like we know he can, two years and $16M is a very fair deal for both sides.

I don't see much wiggle room in that number. If Ginobili plays at an MVP level, maybe that figure jumps up to $18M. If he has an injury ravaged season, I can't imagine it goes lower than $14M.

So basically, Ginobili is in line to get $16M over two years ±$2M.

Worst case for the Spurs is if he decides to retire. I think best short-term and long-term scenario for the Spurs is to keep this core and have a reset button available once Duncan's contract expires.

Yeah Manu looked really tired and old in the first half of the game....???? I'll understand if the depression gets to be too much and you have to suck a tailpipe and end your, and ours as well, misery. In fact you should do something about that horrible depression problem ASAP.:lol

I think it's less about him being done completely and more about him being able to handle the minutes needed for the Spurs to contend. In order to win a championship I think the Spurs have to have him on the floor for 30mpg. Just can't see him being able to do that anymore.

I think he can, but not for a full 7 game series... then again, it's somewhat the same with Tim... he can probably play 35mpg, but his efficiency is just not the same.

I hate that Bonner chokes and that Pop puts him in a position to choke. I've met Matt personally, talked to him, he's the nicest guy. I don't want any Spur player hurt.

Manu will be paid whatever the market for him dictates he should be paid. He left money on the table the last time he re-signed, and he probably still makes the Spurs a lot of money even when he doesn't play.

He's still a valuable player, even at his age and his perceived injury proneness.

decent take. if Manu still has fire in the belly, i think we need to retain him, as long as its sensible. If if its true that he won't be playing for the national team, that might be good. Perhaps cut down on the wear and tear...

maverick1948

If the Spurs win it all this season, Manu will retire. Timmy will come back one more for sure. Manu's body is telling this could be the last season, make the most of it. Or this and one more is all you got so go for it. But Manu will not change his style of play. It works for him.

How long ago was it when we pulled up the "Ditka couldn't stop Manu tonight" thread?

Much like Manu's play, it seems that ST's views on Manu swing more wildly than a pregnant woman's emotions.

I know Manu will come up big when needed in the playoffs. He was never the most consistent player even in his prime. Heck, check his numbers in the 05 Finals, which I saw as his best finals series. In games 1 and 2 he scored 26 and 27. Amazing. Both wins. In games 3 and 4 he scored 7 and 12. Both losses. In game 5, the Horry bailing out Tim's free throws game, Manu scored 15 on 5-16 shooting. In the game 6 loss he scored 21 and in the game 7 win he was huge with 23 points on 13 shots.

Dude is going to have plenty of shit games and will make up for them with pure brilliance. All in all, I trust him to make plays in the clutch on both ends of the floor in big games, especially come playoff time. His performance in the game 5 OKC loss still sits well in my head, friggin carried us. He also keyed the game 1 and 2 wins against OKC tbh. Quit overreacting because he puts up his stinkers and turnobili appears here and there

Well I've been calling for him to retire at the end of the season because it's been painful to watch him to go down this way and I don't want to watch him end his career this way. I know we're all ripping him but whether he retires (which I still hope he does) or not it's been fun watching him play all of these years and bring everything he had to the team. He's never been the best at anything but he gave it everything he got even if he made mistakes. It's been fun watching make all of these crazy highlights. I still enjoy watching all of his earlier highlights in his career. I'm thankful for his sacrifice on this team when he could've been a starter anywhere else all of these years but he went to the bench to cover every other SG the Spurs got. Thanks Manu. Honestly with all the basketball Manu's played in his career that I'm amazed he hasn't retired four or five years ago. People say he's fragile like he's weak or something but if you think about all the contact he's taken throughout his 11 years he's been here in the NBA plus all of the international basketball he's played in his career I'm impressed he even survived. He might not be as durable other guards but he's given everything he's got. Ok now I might have to go watch some 2005 playoff tapes :). Ok there's my eulogy.

I agree, we are going to miss this guy! He would hit timely shots when we needed them or get a foul and get to the line! That or a key steal or play. He was a gambler and made some bad ones like the stupid TO in game three at SAC which lead to Martins fluke layin or that Foul on Dirk, but in other runs he made flat out key threes or plays to win it! He was ice at the FT line too, he was our ace there in tight games and you knew he would make them. I will miss this guy when he is done! He sucks this year but I try to remember the one that I rooted for and got his jersey for support after that 06 Mavs series! He is a Spurs legend and bball HOF player.

2014 doesn't delete what happened from 08-13 tbh.

pretty sure I still remember the Spurs coming up short every year because of Manu.

perhaps you're confusing the word "delete" with "atone" or "rectify" or something

I guess Kurt Thomas, Udoka, Finley, Vaughn, Mason, Jefferson, Hill, šPrimeš McDyess, Neal and all that crap Spurs used to fill the roster had nothing to do with it.

What BS. Hes helped the Spurs to 4 titles. To ask for more to satisfy you makes little sense which brings me to the conclusion that youre scrambling to save face, sad. Dont worry there are plenty of other teams you can be a "fan" of.

'10 against the Suns: 20 ppg, 7.5 apg, 3.8 rpg, 3.0 spg.
'11 against the Grizzlies: 20.6 ppg, 4.2 apg, 4.0 rpg, 2.6 spg.
'12 against the Thunder: 18.5 ppg, 3.3 apg, 3.8 rpg, 50 FG%.

Manu isn't the one that chokes when we lose. That's another guy that I don't want to bring up right now to don't start an unnecessary discussion, tbh. :lol

It has only been a little more than a month so far that our team the San Antonio Spurs just became the Champions of basketball.
Yet some people are more consumed with living in the distant past and moaning, bitching, complaining, blaming, and pointing fingers at what could have been like spoiled brats instead of celebrating what very few fans get to celebrate!
Geez, in case you forgot, we just won our 5th Championship, #5, Cinco, "V", and will be The Champions until dethroned, so get out there, and relish it all in, brag about it to everyone, enjoy the feeling of it fully, let your freak flag soar, and above all, be grateful for this feeling that very few fans ever get to have!

People who put Heat jerseys on Ginobili need to be called out, as well as hateful people who say hateful things. We had a whole year, not just season of that crap and they were wrong and a little gloating is in order. They beg for the spotlight and now they got it.

Most of these trolls dont have any real reason to stick around here, but keep doing the same because they know nothing about basketball so unless it is some lame manu shit they are done.

I agree with all three of you, your criticisms of them are valid.
We are dealing with ingratitude and ignorance from spoiled brats for the most part IMHO.
They obviously can't stand that the Spurs are the 2014 NBA Champions, or they would have stopped doing it by now and celebrate with the rest of us Spurs fans.
They can't hide their true intentions any longer, the truth is apparent tbqh.

Theres not giving a pass and theres hate. You crossed the line. You aint no fan.

Anyone who is the same level of "fan" regarding Manu after his abysmal performance in the 2013 Finals is an idiot--and if he plays for Argentina again, doubly so.

I am a fan of my TEAM. Manu has hurt that team repeatedly and refuses to learn from it. I am not giving him a pass.
