Why only 1 day?

Why not continue it through your lifetime?

Symbolism over substance.

Strikes me as counterintuitive for someone who is particularly out of shape. Try 5k on 1/1, too sore to walk on 1/2, still too sore to work out any on 1/3, give up all hope as of 1/4. Now I would fully endorse an idea to get people taking on the first stage of a couch to 5k program on the first of the year. Sign a pledge to do that on January 1st along with signing up for a 5k sometime around Valentine's Day. That sounds like a workable plan, and probably one that some group out there already does I hope.

Good for you. I bet Mr. Maalox is reaping some benefits too!

I think I'll save the $40 and run for free in the afternoon.
