No he didn't. He was shooting 30% against Angola and letting Rudy Fernandez torch him in the Gold Medal game.

Keep telling me about the 4 pt play, though. Aside from that moment, Kobe was garbage in the Olympics.

How did he give the USA anything when Wade had the better game? He also let his primary assignment, Fernandez, outscore him 22 to 20.

Kobe's Gold Medal game is the most overrated performance in sports' history, only remembered because of that 4 point play.

Gold Medals are team accomplishments, though.

Kobe never steps foot in China and the USA would still roll. That team was far, far better than the '04 team that heavily featured Starbury and A.I. as Wade and James looked on from the bench.

I don't think Kobe is pretentious. I think he suffers from a narcissistic personality disorder, basically a sociopath. The type of people that make everything about them, manipulate everyone to get their way, usually end up violating someone's personal space via raping or buttfucking someone when they say no.

POP is a HOF coach no doubt but I could say maybe Shaq made Kobe better during his prime or Phil made him better with the triangle as well if we want to go there, but TALENT is talent, you can't teach the knack for cluth or the leadership some have, it's natural! Not sure why you guys are so negative about it. A reporter asked him how he inspired, and he answered. I think it's legit that Kobe did pass down some of this work ethic to a younger generation.

One thing the youngin's can never learn from Kobe is how to attract a dominant front line, use it up, spit them out, and then pretend the team success was all due to himself.

Kobefan constantly tells me everyone deferred to Kobe in the clutch and that he "rescued" Team USA from an embarrassing defeat.

Fact. Wade made the clutchest shot of the game. Spain was never closer in the 4th until that moment (before Spain's 3 to close within 4, Kobe missed a forced heat-check 3. Fitting).

Thank you, Dwyane Wade. 9/12 for 27 points and the clutchest shot of the game.

Just fact checking here, but are you suggesting that with a 4 point deficit, Spain was closer than when it was a 2 point deficit at 91-89?

At 91-89 early in the 4th quarter, that's when Kobe took over, and helped account for 14 of the next 17 points until the Wade three pointer.

It's okay if you think Wade's three was the most clutch. But I have a hard time understanding why you think 4 points is closer than 2 points.

what I love most about Kobe's attitude is that he feels he knows it all...I love this:

Asked what it’s like to be the old guy on the team, Bryant said, “I’m where everybody wants to get to. I just happen to be still playing.”

“Can you learn anything from these young guys?” he was asked.

Bryant: “No.”

“You know everything?”

Bryant: “I don’t know if I know it all, but I know more than they do.”

What most of the pee-ons in this thread (like ambchang, for starters) don't get--and will never understand--is that Kobe is legendary because he's played 17+ years in the league on the 2nd most notable sports franchise (behind the Yankees) and has done pretty much whatever he's wanted to do. He ran the most dominant center out of town b/c he wouldn't cede the limelight to Kobe. He did the same to the GOAT coach--only for him to come back to him with apologies.

He does anything he wants to do and doesn't give a shit what people think. He's basically living the life that everyone here dreams of living.:lol

FIBA = physical?

Possibly the stupidest thing I've ever read on any forum anywhere. FIBA's a guard's and shooter's league, which is why Carmelo Anthony loves it, which is why Manu Ginobili can lead Argentina to a Gold Medal, and which is also why it's beyond pathetic that Kirby couldn't even break 50% shooting when Wade and James were shooting 70%.

Kobe played like hot, steamy shit in the '08 Olympic, including the Gold Medal game in which he let NBA scrub Ruby Fernandez outscore him 22 to 20.

Exactly! Duncan spent most of the Olympics in foul trouble. He was tired of the ticky tack calls he kept getting where he'd get a clean block up top, but still be called for a foul because his off hand was touching the hip of the shooter. In FIBA, you are allowed ZERO contact on a block, otherwise it's a foul. That's what pissed him off the most about the FIBA rules.

This was the year the nation was focused on Kobe's rape trial. Kobe was accused of rape in 2003, "Bryant was accused of sexual assault (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kobe_Bryant_sexual_assault_case) after having sex with a hotel employee in Colorado (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Colorado). In September 2004, prosecutors dropped the case after his accuser refused to testify. A civil suit was later filed and settled out of court." and "In the following summer, he had to withdraw from the Olympic team because of his legal case.[191] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kobe_Bryant#cite_note-191)" So you feel Kobe was saved from bronze by a rape trial. Solid logic.

This was the year Kobe cost his stacked team the ring. "in the following 2003–04 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2003%E2%80%9304_NBA_season) season, the Lakers were able to acquire NBA All-Stars Karl Malone (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Karl_Malone), and Gary Payton (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gary_Payton) to make another push at the NBA Championship.[59] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kobe_Bryant#cite_note-59) Before the season began, Bryant was arrested for sexual assault.[60] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kobe_Bryant#cite_note-60) (rape) This caused Bryant to miss some games due to court appearances or attend court earlier in the day and travel to play games later in same day.[61] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kobe_Bryant#cite_note-61)"

This was the year the Lakers lost to the Pistons, the same Pistons the Spurs beat the following year.

This was the year the Spurs won the Olympic Gold (Manu, Oberto). So sure, one Spur lost, but 2 won. How many Lakers won anything?

2004 is not a year any Laker fan should ever want brought up in conversation, much less should they initiate it. (I say Laker instead of Lakers fan because, though you are just a Spurs fan in a troll costume, you pretend to be a Kobe fan).

Kobe's 3 year period was as follows: Watching Tim hold up the Finals MVP trophy, Rape and watching Chauncey hold up the Finals MVP trophy, Watching Tim hold up the Finals MVP trophy.

These are things we all know, things that have been established here, yet you get right back in the belt line and strip down again for your beating.
