Bonner > Blair
Splitter > Duncan
Neal > Parker

Our bench is capable of being its own team.

Spurs need to find consistency... it's great to see some guys standing out here or there, but the team still needs consistency. It's great it's only December and the team still winning despite of that.

I really like Nando's game. He just needs to shoot the ball with confidence and try and finish some of his drives to the rim rather than dishing the ball off all the time.
Why didn't he play earlier in the game though? Why does Pop sit him out the first half and then start playing him late 3rd quarter/early 4th most of the time?
Manufan909
12-05-2012, 11:23 PM
Man, a couple of the Spurs missed Tiago when he was WIDE OPEN in the last 5 minutes. It usually ended in a score anyways, so I guess it's all good. I sadly missed the comeback in the 3rd quarter, so I was surprised as hell that the Spurs ended the game shooting 47%, and the Bucks ended the game shooting 42%. Not nearly as seeing Bonner gobbling up every board in sight. So glad that Pop left Splitter in for the entire 4th quarter, even though he didn't pad his stats in the last few minutes like I would've liked. In the beginning of the 4th, when it counted, he straight beasted on the Bucks.

Maybe he thought it was wiser to go with CJ's defense against Ellis and Jennings so they don't get going early?
If that wasn't the reason then I would have went with Nando earlier.

In other news, Austin Rivers goes for 0 of 5 (fg). Who else thinks that kid's a bust?
Absolutely he's a bust. Austin Rivers was overrated at Duke, came out at least two years too early, and is a joke of an NBA player. In fact, he was so much of an egotist at Duke that he clashed with the coach, so coming back for his sophomore season was just not going to happen. Luckily for him, he was a super-hyped player, so he got drafted really high. Obviously too high.
Shame on Demps. Dude is too good a GM to draft a shot-happy point guard who's really an undersized 2-guard. Rivers isn't quick enough and can't handle the ball well enough to play point, and he's never seen a shot he didn't like. Running that fool at point is like running Kobe Bryant at point. You can do it, but get ready to watch him shoot 30 times a night. Lastly, Rivers is a classic tweener - too short and unathletic to guard most 2-guards, and not quick enough to play PG.
Yes, a massive bust.

I'm pretty impressed with Corey Joseph's ball security. He seems to handle the ball pretty well. He looks very natural with the ball, unlike Neal and Mills.
LOL YEP, those two are FAR FROM PG's in this league. I hope CJ can continue to grow.

Damn, the hate for Austin Rivers is strong in this thread. :lol Can a mixed brotha get a full season to prove himself? I don't give 2 shits about the guy, and everything y'all had said about his game might be true, but damn. Why do we even care about Rivers? Is it it cuz the Spurs 2 much less hyped young PGs are looking better? After looking it up, I'm amazed to see that Austin is shooting even worse than Nando or CJ. He is facing starters, but 28% overall? Got damn that's pathetic!!!! Plus, he is almost the PG version of Dwight when it comes to FTs.

Not good enough by Pop, he should be playing his starters at least 30MPG through the first 36, it's a disservice to the fans to allow the Spurs to excel in the 4th due to their depth.

Only time will tell. He sure looks like he's playing a lot more aggressively. He's going after rebounds and he's moving his feet. He looks like the Bonner who used to be a spark plug off the bench. I hope he can keep it up. All that said, the fact that the Grizzlies failed to go at him inside doesn't automatically mean he can check Z-Bo whenever they play.

When I said he used to be able to rebound, I wasn't actually referring to that Golden State game. He also had 25 points or so IIRC. We'll call that one an aberration. I mean that he was able to go out and fight for two or three hustle rebounds that they otherwise would not have gotten. He hadn't done that in a few years.

That's what happens when you have some competition for minutes. Another thing that stinks about the Bonner/Blair era is those guys have been handed minutes and never really had an incentive to play harder. Blair played his hardest during his rookie season but I haven't seen that same hunger. Those guys just are not good enough to be giving anything less than 110% every game.

I think it's what happens when the team's become so woeful at grabbing their own rebounds that the coach finally has to start threatening everyone.
