Considering Tim has the edge in MVP's, Finals MVP's (the way he's playing this season, if we do manage to take it all its likely he'd pick up his 4th), and the Spurs in his time have been much more consistent as far as being contenders, never having missed a playoff birth, etc. The main thing right now people bring up is kobe 5 Duncan 4. If that number gets evened out, and Kobe doesn't go on to win another, it'll be tough to argue when Kobe has played with the likes of prime Shaq, prime Dwight, prime Gasol and doesn't manage to outdo Tim.
Main point i was going on to make is I almost care about the Lakers losing as much as I do the Spurs winning (almost). Plus one of the premises of my last comment was if the Lakers miss the playoffs. I know the Lakers will eventually pick it up, but if Kobe actually manages to miss the playoffs with this roster, it would really be tough to put an argument together when we were making playoffs starting guys like Bonner, Roger Mason, Finley, etc

Kobe has already managed to miss the playoffs with the likes of Prime Odom in his starting lineup, and Chris Mihm wasn't bad either. However, to Kobe's credit, Mihm missed about a third of the season, and Smush Parker and Devean George were the other starters (after Chucky Atkins left).

I'm not gna lie... that 2005 lakers team wasn't one to write home about. Mihm, Kwame sharing time, Chucky Atkins starting point guard, and Butler hadn't really broken out yet. Still, I love to poke at that. Not even the 8th seed? :lol

Nah. Let them slide in as a 7 seed late in the year, rekindle all the talk about them making a late run to a title (Nash IS the difference, etc.), and then get swept by Memphis or OKC in the first round. It would be 4 more games of Lakers playoff losing to enjoyably watch. All while Kobe is shooting 25+ shots per game and then blaming his team for not stepping up while he half-asses 3/4ths of the game on defense.

I root for only 2 things every NBA season.
In order:
1) Spurs win the NBA Championship
(if 1 does not apply, see 2)
2) Lakers lose in the NBA Finals
Face it its not as entertaining unless LA is still playing.

I don't know. I guess you would have to look at the schedules to figure it out. I imagine the Lakers are definitely behind the 8 ball based on their strength of schedule. But how does their schedule compare with teams like the Jazz, TWolves, Blazers, and Nuggets that they will be competing with for spots?

You're not allowed to, last time I checked. You can't fire 2 different coaches under contract in a single season; the issue came up in (I believe) 2004 after the summer when Larry Brown was shipped out and at about mid-season they fired Randall Ayers and signed some coach named Chris Ford for the rest of the season and were forced to stick with him.

What's even better for the Spurs than the Lakers losing is the Clippers doing the same. Like most Spurs fans, I tend not to be too keen on the Lakers (to put it mildly), but I'll certainly be cheering for them when the Battle of LA commences.

I'm more scared of a Lakers team with just Kobe than the whole team... does that mean Jordan Hill and Antawn Jamison are they're starting big men?
spurraider21
01-07-2013, 03:43 PM
Howard out "at least 1 week" lol. Torn labrum is pretty nasty. I tore my labrum this past summer and doctor said it won't heal without surgery. They could give him a shit ton of cortisone shots and let him play through the pain or its surgery, which would be a few months (possibly the season). A week of rest won't do anything if it truly is a torn labrum.
Lakers also announce Jordan Hill and Pau Gasol won't be making trip to texas for their b2b at houston and san antonio. Lakers big man rotation now consists of rookie center Robert Sacre, Antawn Jamison, and Earl Clark
Hill, Dwight, and Gasol won't be on the Texas road trip. Hill has an injured hip. That means we'll see Clark. Hope the Spurs don't let Kobe hero ball win a game for the Lakers
Word on Dwight's injury is that he's out indefinitely and will be re-examined next week

Getting to the finals is not a forgone conclusion, nor should it be an assumption.
Miami's home crowd is terrible, anyway. I don't think they have as much of an advantage as the spurs do playing at home. Their advantage over the Spurs is LeBron, not home court.
And frankly, I have much more confidence that the Lakers will fail this season than that the Spurs will succeed. I'd like them to miss the playoffs with that $100 million roster, and I think there's a fair chance of that happening. I think the chance of the Spurs making the finals is much more remote.
The only instance in which I'd ever hope for a Laker victory is if the Spurs would be nudged into the playoffs from the 9 seed position by the Lakers beating an 8 seed in the last game of the season. That will not happen this season, barring an absolute (unprecedented) collapse by the spurs due to a Tony Parker / Tim Duncan season-ending injury or something.
Beyond that, FTL. The more that team flounders, the happier I will be.
