Gregg Popovich explains why Kawhi Leonard is traveling with his teammates

"I don't know why he's here," Popovich said before Saturday's game in Charlotte, a 132-102 victory in which the Spurs made a franchise record 19 3-point shots. "It's camaraderie crap. Ask the trainers why he's on the trip. Maybe save your per diem and have a meal on the plane? I don't know."

Considering Harden was about the only guy who managed to do serious damage against us last time we played them (and blew them out), there we will a good chance we will be treated with plenty of De Colo playing time :hungry:

Lol. I guess the Lin hype has completely died down. Even I was on his bandwagon for a while. The reality is that the dude sucks and shouldn't be starting.

Kidd K
12-10-2012, 07:20 PM
Yeah, Lin was obvious overrated last year. You just had to look at who he was playing. During "Linsanity", it was like a dozen games or so, maybe 13. . .and 9 of them were against teams who had a combined record of like .340%. The other 3 were against an injured Hawks team missing 2 of it's best 3 guys, and like maybe two decent teams thrown in there. . .but with old, slow point guards.

Then, soon as he started to face real teams, he shit the bed over and over again. Then he got hurt. It was pretty clear Lin was a paper champ. Filled up the stats against tankers then got destroyed by legit teams.

I felt bad for Rockets fans that they signed Lin to so much money. But they did steal James Harden, so they have a nice foundation to work with now.

No need to be upset with this right now. With Diaw manning the 3, Blair is the natural choice to start at 4. Splitter's game is better suited for coming off the bench, at least against a team like the Rockets.

Look at the bright side, at least Bonner isn't starting.

I know Blair would probably be one of the worst starting 4s in the league, but still....

Spurs are 119-43 (.730) when Blair starts.

I think I'll take those chances against these Rockets with him.

didnt we go 20-0 once diaw joined the team
20-4 in 2012 and so far 17-4 which comes out to .82
almost a double digit improvement and thats going from 70 to 80%
which is almost impossible to do, not like going from a 20 to 30%

Patty could give us 10+ points off the bench (like he did last season). He's like Neal, an effective scorer and a three point shooter, but A LOT faster and with slightly better handles.

racm
12-10-2012, 07:58 PM
Mills is better suited to defending PGs because of his quickness. OTOH Neal is good against SGs who don't happen to tower over him.

Diaw is a much better defender than blair and just better all around the only problem with him is that he over passes sometimes when he is wide open and in the playoffs diaw will be much more effective than blair could be.

Neither can pass the ball, the best rotation would be :
TP, Green, Kawhi, Diaw and TD.
Nando, Manu, Jack, Bonner(or Kawhi since he can play 35 min/game), Splitter

Fair enough. With players like Neal and TP playing though, I find Patty extremely redundant in this regard now. The way he shoots every time he gets the ball gets on my nerves and since he doesn't direct the team like, say, De Colo does he's only really needed on a situational basis. This Spurs team is just that deep. We'll see how Pop handles it though.

Fortunate enough to attend this one in person.

Ref #34 with two VERY late calls. I bet neither call is made if they made the layups.

Random appearance by the Coyote! I love it.

i think tony has looked fine. duncan started a little slow, but i thought he was moving better by the time he went out. early on asik had that play with like 3 offensive boards where tim was a step slow. he had a nice move by asik, but it didn't go...tim's looked alright, tony has looked fine

Russ
12-10-2012, 08:45 PM
My one problem with Green -- Basketball IQ. Throwing a bounce pass to a tightly-guarded big man directly under the basket.

Yeah I've never liked the Spurs defense against the 3pt shot this year, regardless of what any positive state may say, the let too many people get shots they shouldn't get from beyond the arc(ex: Green when he sags off of a 3pt shooter, then looks like a fish out of water trying to get back and stopping him from shooting).
