How the fuck is Nash gone after this year? He'll still be owed $18,000,000 the next 2 years as someone who's over 39 and cares more about ducking child support payments than helping a team win. There's no fuckin way the Lakers will be able to get rid of him.

Shocking that the Lakers had 11 assists to 18 turnovers. They're such an unselfish team, how could their assists be so low?
And Kirby playing 40 minutes a game in December losses is nooooo problem, he's an animal. He's superhuman. These minutes make him stronger. Everything is fine Lakerfan, it's a process. Just wait till Nash gets back.

Sure, but a couple of differences. Spurs sleepwalked through the first 3 quarters of that game, whereas LAL appeared desperate to win. Also, the performance in the Rockets game was a deviation from the norm for the Spurs, but the Lakers have been exhibiting the same flaws (turnovers, no defense, missed FTs, etc) in game after game.

I think this Kobe thing is getting a little out of control, i mean he ended with 42 points...kmon, 16/28 FG and 7/10 FT.
I know i HAVE to hate the Lakers...but kmon...he miss the last one but scored the one before that with an amazing fade away 3 point with a guy on his face.
This is what im looking at:
Howard with 9 FGA!!! and 22 FTA!!! That has to be a record. Sadly he only got 59FT%. Also got 20 rebounds.
Lakers cant trust Howard, and teams are taking advantage of that, at this point 20 rebounds doesnt matter.
I dont know what Nash can do to fix this, or even Magic Johnson!! whats the solution??

I don't care if Kobe shot 80% and scored 90 points. It's a team sport. You have to play defense and Kobe doesn't defend every shot so why should he take every shot? So many people seem to forget that basketball isn't just about shooting.
If a player like Kobe, overbearing and basically a pariah to his teammates doesn't share the ball, the other people on the team realize they are not trusted. They won't rotate, they won't communicate, they just go through the motions because they don't care
if the team wins or loses. They are no different than a Wizards or a Bobcat team that doesn't care to win. Once you get into that mode it's hard to climb out.
It is on Kobe. He's the leader of that team. He's a shitty leader, needs Fish to lead again, but he's the leader and he wouldn't walk across the street to piss on his team if they were on fire. They know that.

I knew a guy once who was a service engineer. He would intentionally take all the easy calls so he could pad his numbers. Those who didn't know better would say he was very productive, but those who knew him knew he was just a piece of shit who dumped responsibility on his coworkers. Kobe does the same thing. He takes the scoring credit but dodges the blame for the loss. They lost because the little things aren't being done on defense and on offense the team is a one trick pony. Sure Kobe gets numbers and on paper he looks great, but he's played long enough to know he's shitting on his team. Those who don't know the game think Kobe is doing great, but those who know realize Kobe is fucking the Lakers. A responsible team leader, even with Kobe's scoring ability, would force himself to play team ball win or lose. Kobe is about Kobe and has always been that way. Shaq and Pau carried him through his career.
Kobe is the biggest piece of shit to ever dribble a basketball. I am glad he's a Laker. They deserve each other.

Didn't work in 2011. Kobe was Kobe.
If you want to show a system's flaws, run it in it's purest form. The Lakers are trying to run Mike's system in it's purest form, and Kobe is exploiting that to embarrass Mike while padding his scoring title stats at the same time. Last year he gave up on the race and actually sat out a game while he could have clinched it (probably). Not now. He's in "fuck you" mode. He's always been just a Colorado pubic hair from that point anyhow, and only a Zen master like Phil could even get anything from him on a team basis. Some boys you just can't reach.

Could Jordan win? Kobe's stats today could be easily Jordans.

You put Harden on this team for Kobe and Lakers win more. Harden will still get his, but he is an excellent facilitator and gets his support guys involved. That's what made him so good off the bench in OKC, he could get players like Collison, Sefelosha etc... open shots.

I fully agree that Kobe's defense is atrocious, it has been evident for years, but I'm including that in my overall assessment..his defense was also terrible the past few years, but I'm giving him credit for his career-best efficiency, which is the positive difference between this year's Kobe in comparison to the past few years..
During the off-season, I said that Howard would have to negate the rest of LA's defense, composed of poor defensive players(outside of MWP), but he has not had the defensive impact that he had in Orlando..
I can't blame Kobe for the offense, because up until the last 2 weeks or so, he was sharing the ball and taking shots within the offense..it will be an issue if his shooting regresses to last year's level, though..

Didn't work in 2011. Kobe was Kobe.
But we've seen this movie before. Kobe was Kobe in 2004 too, and Buss had to go beg Phil to come back again in ('07) and right the ship.
There's no coach out there that can pull off sitting Kobe and when asked say "We needed better defense" and send that kind of message other than Phil.

If you bench Kobe, you're playing Jodie Meeks, an even worse defender..
Lakers banked on Howard for their defensive success, and while he has been good, he hasn't been the freakish athlete we saw in Orlando, where he completely negated the rest of their shitty defensive players..
Howard: good/great
Gasol: average
MWP: good
Kobe: below average
Nash: ass
Blake: ass
Meeks: ass
Jamison: ass
Hill: average
I advocated the hiring of D'Antoni(among the rumored options, outside of Jackson) for this very reason, tbh..LA doesn't have the personnel to play good defense, they needed an offensive minded coach..unfortunately for them, Nash can't get on the court and Gasol's knees are done..

I don't disagree with Howard being not that great (even if he's the best of the bunch). And I'm not saying benching Kobe any extended amount of time. But Phil is the only kind of guy that can send that kind of messages to Kobe.

I think Phil is good... probably the all time best... but part of that is having some judgement, and this team is shit. Kobe is old, Gasol is old, Nash is old, and Howard simply isn't anywhere near as dominant as Shaq... the bench sucks too.
I would agree that from a ego standpoint he would probably like to play saviour. But the reality is that he can wait until the end of the season to walk in as the guy that will fix shit, get some trades done, and get going next season.

I think Phil wanted it therefore still does. It looks easy to fix. Phil would institute the triangle right away. He's too old next year to start rebuilding with a decrepit old stat padding pile of shit.

then who will the Lakers get? Jackson? He'll ask tons of money after what the Lakers did to him, is it worth it with this old team?
Wow Mike was on some serious pain meds.
I think if Phil really wanted it, he would be coaching them now. I'm not sure that he did. Either that, or he asked for too much.
I don't think he asked for too much. I think Jim Buss hates his fucking guts, and because he and Phil never got along, he saw it as an opportunity to publicly embarrass Phil.

I think you're probably giving too much credit to Jimbo...

It is until Jimbo starts to lose money. The Lakers still sell out games. They still have that monster TV contract. Jimbo probably hates basketball anyhow.

First, they need to hire a crip to take out Jim Buss. Second, they need to give Jeannie the authority that Jim has. Third, they need to fire Pringles. Fourth, they need to hire PJ. In that order. Why? If Jeannie is in charge, he can't ask for the moon (several BJs will bring down his asking price :lol).

Kobe's the leader and it's always been, "GTFO of my way and LET ME SCORE." Then he whines about players standing around on offense. Fucking typical.
I would agree with you if Kobe had a low FG%, but he hasnt. Why wouldnt you let him shoot?? I dont get it.
And offcorse he shines around players standing around on offense, specially when they cant score and shoot FTs.

That isn't the point. Kobe takes all the rhythm and flow to the offense out of the game. When he's in, it's ISO KOBE ISO KOBE. And then you wonder why players aren't scoring?
I couldn't care less about his shooting percentages this year. He eviscerates team chemistry. List all the stats you want. All you have to do is watch one Laker game to see how passive players become when they're on the court with Kobe. As soon as he gets the ball, they quit, because they know there's no point in them doing anything on offense for the rest of the offensive possession.
And offcorse he shines around players standing around on offense, specially when they cant score and shoot FTs.
When you get 3 touches a game, it's damn hard to find a rhythm and a spot you're comfortable with. Again, this is apparent to everyone who's ever played basketball.
Oh yeah, and Kobe sucks ass on defense. He's one of the worst defenders in the league this year. He's probably responsible for giving up 25+ a game.
Even in street ball...you don't get the rock a few times, you stop giving effort on d and offense....especially if there is a chucker on your team. Can't imagine what these professional basketball players feel like playing next to Kobe.
Bane.

Here's hoping they trade Gasol for some pieces to fit D'Antonis system, then Dwight leaves this summer and Lakers have to try to win with a back court average age of 37 with no bigs to throw it to down low.

If Dwight leaves next summer, the Lakers are totally fucked next season regardless. Gasol isn't gonna randomly start playing like he did in '09 or '10, so they'd have a giant weakness up front either way if they lost Dwight and have like an $80,000,000 payroll without Dwight so they'd have little to no way of adding talent.
I'm wondering if in the Nash trade, the Lakers made the same mistake Kerr made when he traded 2 picks to Seattle for them to take Kurt Thomas and arrogantly forgot to lottery protect them. Does anyone know if those Lakers picks are unprotected?

Yup...you can see it on the other guys faces and their body languages. They are not giving up on the coach. They are giving up on chucker. I am not suprised at the outcome so far. Dude this is the reason why Dwight did not want to come to the Lakers. He could see this crap coming playing with a guy like chucker.

I just checked that and it actually says the Cavs have the right to swap 2013 picks with the Lakers, but if the Lakers are in the lottery they forfeit that right. :lol the Cavs trading their pick with anybody.

Not quite. The Cavs have the right to exchange any one of three different first round picks for the Lakers' first pick. The Cavs own their own pick, Sacramento's pick (top 13 protected) and Miami's pick. The Laker pick is top 14 protected, but if the Lakers make the playoffs, it becomes a pretty good bet that the Cavs will exchange the Miami pick for the Laker pick. The Lakers would then convey the Miami pick to the Suns as part of the Nash trade.

So basically the Suns are getting Miami's pick this year :lol
If the Lakers miss the playoffs does that mean the Suns can still get it or is it lottery protected from the Suns too?

It's lottery protected from the Suns as well. As I understand it, the Suns will get first round picks in 2013 and 2015 from the Lakers. If the Lakers miss the playoffs then those picks would just roll back one year and the Suns would get the picks in 2014 and 2016. I'm just not 100% sure based on reading the details from the source I go to for this sort of info:

Yeah the way I read that you're probably right. nbadraft.net also has the Lakers currently picking 10th overall with their own pick and they're usually decent at reflecting trades.
